Chapter 20: Planting the seeds

Kira’s POV

Mira and I had gotten so close that we even ate from the same plate; she also helped me in being able to control my telekinetic ability. One of the days after our usual training we sat down to rest and take a quick snack before we continued again.

I went in to bring some of the snacks I had in my home so we could both eat, after which we trained; ever since I started the training with Mira, I had been able to lift so many things irrespective of how heavy they were with the Use of my telekinetic powers.

After several attempts on non-living things, Mira asked that I try lifting her, which I did; at first, I was scared, scared that something might go wrong and I might get her injured, but Kira assured me everything would be fine.

I was able to lift her and move her from side to side.

The next day, she came and trained me on how to attack an enemy with my telekinetic power, and honestly, I was getting a hold of it; I never would have thought that Mira would have made a fine teacher, even though she didn’t possess any telekinetic power.

Sometimes, the way she instructs me, I do think that she must have been a reincarnated soul; maybe her previous soul was a witch or had telekinetic powers because she instructs me like she’s had a good experience.

The day I asked her how she does it, she said that she just uses the basics of werewolf training.

If you are training for the first time as a werewolf your instructor would always ask you to focus, especially when they are training you on how to turn.

Those were the same tactics she used in training me, and surprisingly, it worked.

After I had fully mastered the act of attacking with my telekinetic power, I decided to call it a day; I went into my home and went straight to the bathroom to wash off all the sweat.

I came out a few minutes later, I asked if Mira needed to freshen up, but she said she was good. Besides, she didn’t train that day. She only just instructed.

I sank into the sofa in my living room and watched Kira walk around my house as if she were inspecting something.

"So... the alpha, he gave you this house?"

I was surprised she was asking such questions. Besides, no one in Ryker’s pack didn’t know that their alpha had made a house for me to stay.

I had been staying in there for months so it was weird when Mira asked me like she wasn’t sure but I replied her

"Yes, he gave me the house," I said cautiously "Why?"

Mira’s lips pressed together in thought "I see..."

I frowned "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing I am just trying to know more about you" she and

Something about her tone felt off.

I had a feeling that she was lying but I decided to just play along.

She came closer to me and sat on the sofa close to where I sat.

She smiled. "Training with you this past few weeks has been fun. I feel like we are now soul sisters.... don’t you agree?"

"Honestly, Mira, I feel the same too," I said, my face lit up with a smile.

"I am so happy you feel the same way too," she said

I smiled, nodding my head.

We sat down in comfortable silence for a while before Mira’s expression suddenly changed from the once cheerful lady to an angry and bitter house-wif

She looked towards the direction of the door as if trying to be certain we were alone, then she turned to me with a very serious "Kira," she called calmly "Can I ask you something... promise you won’t be mad."

"Well, it depends on what you are about to ask; I can’t promise I won’t be mad since I don’t know what you want to ask." I said smiling, "But don’t worry, I will try my best not to be mad."

She hesitated for a while, then asked "Do you trust Ryker?"

My eyes widened; I wasn’t expecting her to ask this kind of question; the question sent a strange feeling through me. "Yes... why?"

Mira exhaled leaning back against the sofa. "I don’t know but it feels like you are trusting him a little too much... like you trust him too easily dear"

"What do you mean? I honestly don’t understand where you are driving." I said frowning.

She stared at me, her blue eyes carried something, it was filled with something I couldn’t quite place.

"I have seen how you look at him whenever you come to the palace, the way you believe every single word he says; you think he’s this strong, genuine, honourable Alpha who genuinely cares about you."

"That’s because he does care about me", I said, crossing my arms.

She scoffed, "You trust him that much?"

"Yes, I do, and I am sure he cares about me a lot."

Mira tilted her head, studying me. "Are you sure about that?"

I was getting uncomfortable having such a discussion with Mira. It felt like a slander. Where the conversation was heading to, I didn’t like it.

"I am very sure, Mira..." I exhaled "Look, since I came here, he’s done nothing but help me... what other confirmation do I need.?"

Mira exhaled again, this time she stood up from the sofa she was sitting her hands folded, she shook her head "Kira... honestly, I don’t want to upset you, I am just trying to open your eyes here trying to make you see beyond..." she sighed "Okay, I need you to think about something. Why do you think Ryker took you in?"

I stared at her not sure of the answer she wanted me to give but I did say what I thought was the reason

"Because I was helpless, and I had nowhere else to go, you probably know this story too."

She looked at me with what felt like a very sad look, she smiled, but it wasn’t a bright smile. It was more like a sad, disappointed smile.

"That’s what you think. Honestly, I won’t blame you for that; your pure soul wouldn’t let you think otherwise. But the truth about Alphas is that they don’t do things without reason... there’s always an ulterior motive, Kira."

Suddenly I felt a slight chill run down my spine. "What are you insinuating, Mira?"

"I’m saying," She continued, her voice lower this time. "That Ryker isn’t as good and perfect as you think he is Kira; he’s just like every other alpha’, cunning, manipulative."

"No stop it, that can’t be true, you are... he-"

"He what kira?" Mira interrupted me. "Let you stay in his house," she said, her hand in a circular movement. "Trained you? Fed you? Kira, I know you are smarter than this. Don’t tell me you’ve blocked your sense of reasoning because of this?" She sighed "Ask yourself why, what does he get out of it."

I felt my chest tightened "I... I... don’t know" I stuttered

Mira came closer to me, her voice sounded almost like a whisper. "Think Kira, I know you are smart, which is probably one of the reasons why the moon keeper blessed you with the powers you now possess. A powerful Alpha, like Ryker, doesn’t just help people for no reason. What if he’s using you?"

"Using me?" I echoed, my heart beating faster I thought I was going to drop down dead

Mira nodded her head "For all we know, he could only be interested in you for his selfish reasons because he plans to use your powers, your abilities, for his benefit."

"No, Ryker isn’t like that; he will never do a thing like that."

"Oh my gosh, Kira", Mira scoffed "You’ve been in this pack for how many months, and you think you know him well enough?"

"I... think... so" I replied my voice shaky

Mira held my hands "Kira, I care about you; you have to listen to me. I know you care about him, but you also need to be smart about the whole thing. He’s an alpha, they always think about power first before anything else."

Honestly, I wanted to argue, but I couldn’t. I wanted to defend him, Ryker, but there was something about Mira’s words that hit me so deep, planting a tiny seed of doubt.

What if Mira was correct?

What if Ryker wasn’t just being kind?

What if there was more to his actions, something I probably wasn’t seeing that Mira could see?

Mira stood up and sighed. "I didn’t say this just to hurt you or spite you Kira; I just want you to be careful." She came closer to me placing her hands on my shoulders "Promise me you will think about everything I have just said"

I nodded gently; my mind was spinning, and so many thoughts were brewing.

"That’s good," she said smiling "I have to go now, I wished I didn’t have to"

She turned and headed towards the door; I watched as she approached the door, pausing before she stepped out.

"Oh, and Kira", she added’ turning back slightly, "learn not to be too trusting; it could be your downfall, my friend."

She left and then closed the door behind her.

I sat on the couch, staring at nothing in particular, my thoughts were tangled in severe doubt and uncertainty

For the first time since I had been in Ryker’s pack, I questioned my safety; I questioned Ryker’s genuineity.
