THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 22: Betrayal in the shadows
Kira’s POV
We trained for about an hour more before Mira finally left. Before she left she dropped a warning message.
"Do not be fooled by an alpha"
That was her parting words.
I went into my room and lay on the bed looking up at the ceiling, but my mind was elsewhere.
"I kept replaying everything that had happened in my mind. Mira seemed determined to make me hate Ryker, but everything he had done for me was nothing but good. Hating him? I wasn’t sure I could."
But I still couldn’t take away the thought that she might be right about everything she had just said.
My stomach rumbled. I was hungry, but I didn’t even have the energy to stand up to make something to eat, not because of the stress of the training but because of the stress of everything that was on my mind.
The fact that Ryker had not even bothered to check on me since I saw him and the female alpha was suspicious. It wasn’t helping my disbelief.
Everything that was happening hinted at the possibility that she was right about Ryker.
But then again, I remembered our first encounter, her fighting skills; there was something wrong with it; it was different from the usual fighting skills in the Ryker pack.
It was more refined, technical and strategic than theirs.
How did she get to know this technique?
Something felt off about her too.
The way she kept on painting Ryker badly ever since we started our training was suspicious.
As for her skills, there could be only two ways to it: either she trained and mastered them on her own, or she has a secret teacher. If she had a secret teacher and that teacher wasn’t a member of the pack, that could mean that she was a spy sent to plant seeds of doubt in my heart.
I stood up and paced to and fro my room; my stomach rumbled again, so I decided to go make something to eat.
As I tried to fix something to eat, I suddenly remembered one of her last advice during our second day of training.
"Learn not to be too trusting?" I muttered as I stirred the content of what was inside my pot.
She meant that I should be careful and mindful of how I trust Ryker, but right there in the kitchen, I also decided not to be too trusting of her.
I was taking her advice.
I finished cooking In about an hour.
I served the food and ate.
When it was time for me to go to bed I laid on the bed thinking of what to do until I slept off.
The next morning I was woken up by a loud knock on my door,
"Who is it?" I asked, my voice still heavy with sleep
"Don’t tell me you are still sleeping by this time."
I looked at the wall clock on the wall of my room it was ten in the morning.
Training time was supposed to be about two hours ago.
I hurried out of bed and into the bathroom, shouting for her to give me a minute.
I finally opened the door and there she Was in all her glory.
What are you up to, Mira?
What games are you playing?
Are you following orders?
All these questions were etched in my heart. But there were no answers to any of them.
"What would we do today" I asked
"Today we are going to test your ability to conjure objects"
"Conjure? Come on, I am a moon keeper, not a conjurer" I chuckled
"You have powers, like a magician, a witch, you can control things with your mind, I am sure you would be able to conjure anything you want."
I heaved a deep sigh.
"Okay let’s do this, try thinking about anything in your mind, when you’ve thought of it, then try channelling your powers into your mind,"
I closed my eyes and did just as she had instructed but nothing was happening. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"It’s not working," I said
"Try again, Kira; you can do this."
"It’s not working", I said, raising my voice a little this time
"It’s going to work, just try to see yourself conjuring something."
I took in a deep breath and then imagined a knife in my mind.
What did you just say?
Did you just wonder, why a knife?
Don’t worry, you will understand soon enough.
Slowly I began to feel a movement on my palm, like the edge of a knife.
I channelled more power into it, and then I began to feel it form.
In about ten minutes, I was done. l had the knife in my palm.
"Very good, Kira, very good", she said, clapping her hands.
In the blink of an eye, I was already behind her, knife to her neck.
"Tell me who sent you to me", I ordered, my voice laced with anger.
"What are you doing, Kira?" She asked her voice shaky
"What does it look like I am doing?"
"Come on, Kira, it’s me, Mira, your soul sister,", she said in a soft voice.
"Soul sister?" I scoffed "I’ve known you for how long now? Three days, four days? A week, and you think that’s enough for us to be soul sisters."
"It doesn’t matter how long we’ve known each other, all that matters is how we connect"
I tightened my grip on her neck, making the knife dig a little bit into her skin.
"You are hurting me, Kira?" She lamented, gasping for air.
"Tell me who sent you to me; why are you so bent on making sure I hate Ryker? And that technique you learnt? How long have you been training like that? Do you have a teacher?"
She exhaled, wiping sweat from her forehead.
In the blink of an eye, I saw myself on the floor; Mira was very swift.
"So sorry, I was getting bored" she chuckled
I stood up immediately, pointing the knife at her.
She began to walk around In a cycle, "So tell me, how long have you known."
"Not too long?"
"Hmm, I understand," she said, resting her hands on her jaw.
"What gave me out?"
"I just followed your instructions mira?"
"Oh wow, which of the instructions."
"Do not be too trusting"
"Oh my gosh, wow you took that to heart. I am glad you did; just so sad you didn’t use it for the right person."
"Who sent you?" I asked my voice laced with anger and urgency.
"Come join us; you don’t belong here?"
I laughed.
"Who are you to tell me where I belong and where I don’t belong."
"Your soul sister" she chuckled.
"I am not your soul sister," I said throwing the knife at her.
She dodged it.
"I don’t want to fight you, Kira, you are stronger now, but you still can’t beat me, don’t be deceived by the fact that you took down a female alpha, she doesn’t know what I know"
She was right; the female alpha I had fought didn’t know the skills, these skills seemed like skills and techniques that were majorly developed just for fighting against Ryker’s men.
Everything was beginning to add up in my head.
I got a flash memory of a particular period I was passing through Asha’s training ground, and I saw him practising the same techniques Mira was using.
The men who had come to take me back to Asha’s pack a few days ago, Mira trying to plant seeds of doubt, trying to make me detest Ryker so when the time was right, she would suggest going back to Asha’s pack.
Why did he even need me back?
He rejected me and said he never wanted to see me again, but now he wants me back.
"You are working for Asha? It was all you?"
"All me? Yes, I work for Asha, but you need to be more specific. I can’t take credit for everything, you know," she said, a wry smile appearing at the corner of her lips.
"You were the one that told him I was here"
"Oh no that wasn’t me, that was someone else who didn’t like your stay in the pack,"
"Who is he?"
"Oh, sorry, Kira, but I don’t have the right to give out such information. Seriously, you should consider coming back to Asha; it’s where you belong, and Ryker has nothing to offer you."
"I am not coming back to him? He abandoned me; Now he wants me to come back because he’s found out that I am not so weak after all." I paused "Well tell him that I will never come back to him," I said angrily
I created a force field that blew Mira away, making her collide against the wall.
The wall was scattered due to the impact.
She laughed ominously "That was good. I see that you took my lessons to heart, but it will take more than that to keep me on the ground for a while."
The next thing I felt was a knife piercing through my stomach.
I fell on my knees.
Mira stood in front of me; if only you had listened, well, I guess I will have to take you to meet him while you are unconscious.
The pain was excruciating, and the surprising part of it was that it wasn’t healing and the spot was slowly turning into a dark purple spot.
"What’s this?"
"It’s Wolfsbane" She replied
