Chapter 28: Pack divided

Kira’s POV

I woke up to see Ryker by my side holding my hands, head resting on the bed of which I lay. I moved my hands a little, signalling to him that I was awake.

"Kira!" he muttered under his breath.

A faint smile appeared on my face, which immediately disappeared because of the pain I felt when I tried to sit up.

I pulled up the shirt I Was wearing, looking at the place where I was stabbed, and I noticed it hadn’t fully healed up yet; I guess the wolfsbane affected me too much.

"Are you alright?" Ryker asked

I nodded.

"Emilia! Emilia!!" He called.

Emilia came running into the room; her eyes lit up when she saw that I was awake.

"Can you do a check-up on her?" He asked

"Yes, I can" she replied

After the check-up, she said that the only thing left was for the injury to close up properly.

"Why isn’t it closing up yet?" I asked

"The wolfsbane had eaten deep into your body system before we came," Emilia replied placing her hands on my shoulders.

I asked how long I had been laying on the bed and she said two days. I remembered my eyes were opened after the fight Ryker had with Mira.

Honestly, I hated the fact that Mira was able to escape; I wished she hadn’t escaped at all.

Later that day Marcus and the other three people who had helped in bringing me here when I left Asher’s pack came visiting.

Ryker left to perform pack duties while I remained in bed chatting and laughing about stuff with Emilia and the four.

******

"I called this meeting to inform you about the looming dangers around us," Ryker said pacing to and fro the large circle space in his Palace.

Three days after I was discharged by Emilia. The scar had gone. It wasn’t visible but I still feel some kind of sharp pains at the spot, especially when I try to train or use my strength to do something.

I had convinced Ryker during the three days, five days in total if I was to include the day of the fight and the day of the meeting in his palace. I told him he had to let his pack know about Mira’s betrayal, and he had to let them know that Asher would be attacking the pack soon, and everyone needed to level up.

He argued saying he would just tell a selected few, but I insisted that he had to tell everyone, if not for anything but just so everyone can be prepared and ready for the battle to come.

Mira was just one woman, one she-wolf. The glowing golden eye was another wolf, too.

There was this eerie feeling I felt after looking into his eyes. I knew he was a strong beta wolf.

I had spent my whole lifetime in Asher’s pack, and I had never come across anyone like that, and there was no way we could know how many of that kind of wolves he had.

How many Mira’s could he be keeping? How many glowing golden eyes could he be hiding, too?

There was certainly no way to be aware, but it was certain that there would be more people like Mira and the golden eyes in his pack, so it’s better to be prepared for the worst than to be underprepared.

After so many deliberations, Ryker finally agreed that he was going to call everyone around to tell them about it.

The day he called them around, he began to tell them about Mira.

"I am sorry to inform you all that I have not been the observant alpha you all thought I was." He exhaled

Everyone began to murmur; they weren’t sure what he was talking about; he had started by telling them there was an impending danger, and now he was saying he wasn’t the alpha they thought he was.

Everyone seemed confused.

A silence order from him kept their mouth shut, everywhere became quiet as a graveyard.

"There was a spy in our midst all these years, right under my nose, but I didn’t notice it."

"What are you saying, Ryker," Isabella asked rudely.

I felt disgusted by her voice and her presence; anger flowed through every part of my veins, but I had to maintain my cool.

I couldn’t afford to start up a fight, not there when Ryker was trying to explain something very important to his people.

"Hey, what are you staring at?" Mara’s voice echoed from behind me

I ignored her.

"I am sure we all know, Mira?"

Everyone nodded.

"She had been working for the enemy all this while and has been deceiving us"

"Does this mean we aren’t safe?" A voice echoed from the crowd.

The murmur started again.

But this time, a single silence order didn’t make them stop; only Ryker’s pack warriors were quiet; they understood the situation, so they were calm.

Ryker tried to calm them down but he couldn’t.

I looked around, and I could see fear in their eyes.

"Who is this enemy? And what do they want?" A male voice echoed through the crowd.

Everyone seemed to want to know the answer to this question so they all became quiet after the question.

Ryker exhaled. I could feel the tension in his heart; he loved his pack, and he felt like a failed alpha because he had not found out about Mira sooner; he was angry because I was the one who got to find out about her and got hurt In the process.

"It’s Asher, and he wants..." he paused for a while.

"What does he want? Is it the stranger you Brought to our pack he wants?"

Stranger?

I wasn’t surprised at all; there were so many people in the pack who didn’t like me at all, and some of them were Isabella’s devoted followers.

"They want the moon keeper!"

The uproar began again this time louder than before.

Some pack members who didn’t like me stared at me with an icy glare. If staring at someone could kill them, I would have died.

"Then let her go, we Don’t need her" Another voice from the crowd echoed.

Other people began to agree.

I looked at Isabella, and there was a satisfied expression on her face; she also needed me out of the pack. I wasn’t ready to leave the pack, I wasn’t ready to leave Ryker.

Ryker tried to calm the storm, but all his efforts were useless; they had gone out of control just because they didn’t want me.

"She’s not one of us, and she will never be, so just give her back; we were living peacefully before she came."

I couldn’t take it anymore; I walked up to where Ryker stood and shouted at the top of my voice.

"ENOUGH!!!!!"

My voice travelled with a sudden shock wave and shaking of the building that I didn’t expect. Everyone suddenly and immediately stood mute; the ones who Were standing anyhow stood straight.

It was as if I had commanded them to do what they did.

I knew that it had to be the moonkeeper in me.

I looked around for a while, only Ryker was moving freely.

"What did I just do?" I muttered under my breath.

I looked at him, and he had this look of surprise on his face, but It later changed to the go-ahead kind of look.

He was urging me to address the people. I looked at where Isabella sat, and I could see her gritting her Teeth; her hands were already folded in a fist, but I didn’t care.

"I am sorry, everyone; I honestly didn’t mean to do what I just did." I started

"You want to kill us?" A voice echoed.

I scanned the crowd, looking for the person who had asked the question, and there he was, standing in front of the crowd.

"If I wanted to kill you all," I paused conjuring fire on my left arm. "I would have done it, and I wouldn’t think twice about it because now I have the power to do so," I added, putting off the fire.

They were all astonished by what I did.

"I was able to do that thanks to Mira. She wanted me to believe the worst about you all, but I didn’t; I couldn’t." I paused, moving closer to the crowd. "You all claim that I am the reason for his attack, but need I remind you that Mira had always been here spying on you, giving information to Ryker, and you all weren’t aware of anything. Now tell me, was I also the reason for that too."

Ryker moved closer to where I stood patting me on the shoulder.

I continued, "It was only a matter of time before he came to attack you, and that would have been worse because he would have attacked you all unaware, but now you have a chance to prepare for his attacks; you have a chance; we have a chance...."

"She’s right, my dear wolves; we have a chance to prepare; thanks to her, we were able to find out about Mira, and thanks to her, we know that Ryker will be attacking us very soon. We need to be prepared."

The crowd began to murmur, I was able to pick some words with my heightened hearing senses. I smiled when I heard some of them agreeing with me and acknowledging the fact that I was the moonkeeper.

I guess the little display of power I did convinced them; besides, it’s been centuries since they last saw a wolf who could perform magic.

There was a family of wolves centuries ago who were said to be magicians but they all died.

After everything, Ryker placed me in charge of defence tactics.
