THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 29: The Moonkeeper’s Strategy
Kira’s POV
I stood before Ryker and all the warriors that had gathered, I felt the weight of this new responsibility rest upon my shoulders. Being placed in charge of the pack’s defenses was an honor. Isabella frowned at it, but who was she to speak when the alpha had spoken?
She bit her lips, muttering something inaudible. I only saw her mouth move; maybe she was cursing me. Though it was an honor to be placed in charge of the pack’s defenses, it also came with immense pressure.
Many wolves still saw me as an outsider, a stranger who had come to disrupt their peaceful lives. I could sense their hesitation and Their unspoken doubts lingering in the tense air around me.
But I refused to let it bother me. Instead, it motivated my determination to prove that I belonged not just as Ryker’s ally but as someone very important in their survival too.
I looked at Ryker and saw the look in his eyes; it was an encouraging look; I drew strength from his silent support. He trusted me and he believed in me that was more than enough.
I took a deep breath, then began to address the people. "I know some of you still don’t trust me, but it still wouldn’t change the fact that a war is ahead of us; it’s either we prepare or we don’t. And you know what comes when we don’t prepare." I said my voice steady
I wasn’t just fighting for myself; I was fighting for everyone. I had lived all my life under Asher’s rule; I would use everything I had learned to ensure that no one else would suffer.
I knew Asher could be a tyrant; no, he was a tyrant, and he’s still a tyrant.
The battle for our survival had just begun.
I knew that before I could devise a defense strategy, I would need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of Ryker’s pack. While they were strong and disciplined, the fact remains that they lacked the experience they needed against Asher’s forces.
Seeing the way Mira had battled with Ryker was more than convincing enough. Ryker had defeated her In the end and would have even killed her if she had not escaped, but he still didn’t have it easy when battling with her because he wasn’t experienced with her moves but now he was.
Even when I fought with her, at first I didn’t recognize her move until my head began to reboot. I had seen what Mira was capable of, and it was certain that Asher had people just like her, the glowing golden-eyed wolf who had to be just like her or even stronger.
Brute force alone wouldn’t make us win this battle, but strategy, adaptability, and coordination would be our greatest weapons.
I gathered the warriors in the training grounds; at the moment, I was glad that I had stood to watch Asher’s wolves train while I was still in his pack because it was this knowledge I had that I was going to use.
I instructed them to pick a partner for sparring and watched them carefully as they sparred. I sent away all the old male and female wolves and the kids who didn’t have the strength; I also asked the rest if they were interested in joining the pack warriors because we also had to prepare in numbers.
We couldn’t afford to be taken unawares by Asher. Some of them left while a few stayed. The ones that stayed, I asked them to pick partners to spar with, and they were good, too. I guessed they must have been watching the pack warriors when they trained.
All their movements were precise, and their attacks were powerful, but I noticed something: there was a gap in their technique. Most of them relied too much on physical strength which made them prone to quick counterattacks.
While others fought well, when I placed them in groups, they struggled with group formation. They were used to the one-on-one kind of battle formations.
This baffled me; Asher’s wolves fought as a unit, focusing on their enemy’s weaknesses.
I turned to Ryker, who stood beside me; I said, "They are very strong, but they lack coordination. If Asher attacks come in waves, they won’t last a minute."
Ryker exhaled, nodding his head in agreement.
"Are you trying to say our wolves are weak?" The ever-annoying bitch Isabella asked.
I turned to face her with a cold stare; I said, "I am not saying they are weak, Isabella; all I am saying is they need a little bit of upgrade just so they could match Asher’s forces."
"She’s right, Isabella, you weren’t there when Ryker fought with Mira, if I wasn’t experienced in battle, I would have been defeated by her", his voice trailed off.
I looked at him, and I understood how he felt; he was still angry at the fact that he struggled to defeat a beta wolf.
"You should have called me to come with you!" She yelled
"Isabella!" I yelled back at her, my eyes glowing yellow, with fire in my palm. "We are trying to make something good here; we don’t have that time for argument."
Isabella chuckled, moving closer to me. "So what now, moonkeeper?" she said in a mocking tone. "Are you going to burn me?"
"I wouldn’t hesitate to if you-"
"That’s enough both of you!" Ryker shot at us.
I quenched the fire on my palm, realizing that I was allowing the hatred I had for Isabella to take control of my actions.
I apologized to him and the warriors, but Isabella didn’t; instead, she walked away.
I looked at the warriors, watching as they sparred I knew I needed to act fast. I wasn’t sure when Asher would attack, but I knew it wouldn’t be long because he wouldn’t want to give Ryker’s men the time to train and possibly get used to his pack technique. We needed to be ready when he came.
After carefully analyzing and understanding the warriors in the weakness pack’s coordination, I wasted no time in Bringing out a means of implementing a well-structured training program. I divided the warriors into specialized unit sections; I separated people for intelligence gathering, frontline fighters for direct combat, and the people who would be in the defensive team to guard the areas of the territory that were vulnerable.
While doing this, I was astonished at myself; my brilliance, the once weak omega, had now turned into a perfect strategist and defense planner. I wonder if the fact that I was the moon keeper contributed to my ability to think faster.
I gave each unit its role, making sure that they all would function as a cohesive force rather than scattered individuals in battle.
Ì introduced new combat drills, ones that focused more on teamwork and adaptability. I could see the strain and stress the drills had on them, but we needed it if we wanted to defeat Asher’s warriors.
I made them train in pairs and groups, making sure they learned how to expect the ally’s moves and cover each other’s blindspot.
At that moment I knew this wasn’t just me.
It was the wisdom of the moonkeeper that was working in me.
I placed more emphasis on the need for speed and strategy over force because I knew that Asher’s forces would rely most on surprise attacks, just as Mira did with Ryker.
I made them practice defense formation repeatedly until I was sure it had become their second nature, making sure that when the time came, no one would hesitate.
We called it a day, allowing everyone to go to their homes so they could rest.
*****
The morning came quicker than expected.
Beyond physical training, I worked with Ryker to strengthen the territorial defenses. We doubled patrols, just in case Asher sends someone to come to invade or spy.
We made traps and hid them in places only people of the pack knew about and we made sure to set them in the most vulnerable entry points.
Watchtowers were reinforced we also established signals, emergency signals that we could use to ensure better and faster communication.
As time flew by, I was more determined to make sure that when Ahser came, Ryker’s pack would be ready to fight back.
As time went on, the warriors became more powerful, better coordinated, and prepared for battle. The previously uncertain pack members started to have faith in my guidance, understanding that I wasn’t merely a stranger—I represented their greatest opportunity for survival. Even Isabella, with her resentment, couldn’t overlook the advancements we were achieving.
Each night, I lie wide awake, envisioning every imaginable scenario in my thoughts. Asher was sly, and I recognized he wouldn’t strike without his plan. This time, we would be prepared and not surprised. This time, we would be prepared. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Positioned on the watchtower, with the moon glowing overhead, a wave of strength coursed through me. The Moonkeeper within me was stirring, leading me towards the impending fight. Regardless of Asher’s plans or the strength of his forces, we would hold our position. This was not merely about survival—it was about triumph.
