Chapter 56: Illusions of pains

Kira’s POV

My mom couldn’t teleport anymore; she was exhausted already. Her breathing was ragged and she was sweating profusely. At that moment, I wished my powers could just come back, but it was only wishful thinking.

"Please let my daughter go," she begged. "You can have me, but please let her go," she added as tears rolled down her eyes.

The entity laughed ominously, coming closer to where she stood. Mom placed me behind her, carefully shielding me.

Tears rolled down my eyes as there was nothing I could do. I cracked my head for things to do to free myself from the shackles of the illusion, but there was nothing.

Shortly after, I saw tendrils snake themselves all over my mom’s body, gradually becoming tighter until she burst.

My eyes welled up as I saw the level of evil he had done against my mom. Yes, this wasn’t real; my mom didn’t die that way in real life, but seeing him kill her this way like she was some fly that could be crushed easily, was disrespectful.

How dare he do that to my mom?

Still in my little Kira form, I charged ahead, but before I could get to him, the whole location had changed. Now I was back to my real self.

I recognized this place to be Asher’s pack.

What could he be planning this time?

At first, I was standing at the boundary between Asher’s pack and the next pack, then all of a sudden I saw myself in my room in a maid’s attire. I stood in front of a mirror staring at my reflection.

Then something happened; it was as if I had lost consciousness of my original self. I was no longer Kira the Moonkeeper but Kira the lowly omega who had no status, no family, and no history.

"Are you going to stand there and keep looking at your ugly self!" the head maid yelled at me.

I turned, bowing my head and apologizing.

"Get to work!" She instructed.

Immediately, I hurried to the side of the room that had the mop and other cleaning utensils and took them to a tap to get them ready to use for cleaning.

As I came back to the room, I began to clean. "You all can leave this place for her, go do something else," the head maid announced.

"But there’s nothing else to do, ma’am," a maid said.

"Then it’s y’all’s lucky day," she replied, smiling.

This made the rest of the girls very happy, and they ran out of the room, leaving only me with the head maid.

"But ma’am, this room is too big for only me to clean; it’s going to take a while. Please, I will appreciate it if you—"

A slap landed on my cheek before I could even continue the sentence. "Who are you to tell me what to do and what not to do, you stupid lowly, bastard omega wolf."

"But ma’am—"

She slapped me again; this time, the force was more than the first.

"I decide who cleans and who doesn’t! I have decided that you are to clean the whole room, and nothing is going to change that!" She yelled at me.

Tears trickled down my eyes as I went back to where I had left the mop and then continued cleaning.

"Do not ever question my orders," she warned before turning to take her leave.

I continued cleaning with tears rolling down my eyes. I had barely cleaned up to half of the room when I heard the sound of a bottle shattering to pieces on the ground just a few steps ahead of me.

One of the broken pieces rolled over in my direction. I had already placed my hands on it before I was able to notice it. The bottle pierced through my skin.

"Ouch!"

Suddenly, I began to hear soft giggles. I looked up ahead and saw the girls.

Of course, it had to be them. It was none other than the three musketeers, always together. THE THREE C’s as they like to call themselves. Clara, Ciara, and Claire. They were omega wolves like me, but omega wolves with status and rank.

I was just an ordinary omega wolf with no status and nothing to my name, but theirs was different. Their father was a beta wolf during the time of Asher’s father as the alpha of the pack, and then their brother was one of Asher’s beta warriors.

The three of them had strength too, unlike me. There were omega wolves with strength and combat skills, but I had nothing. I couldn’t even pick up a combat skill.

"Oh dear, I am so sorry, did we hurt you?" Clara’s voice was laced with mockery.

I ignored them. I cut a little piece out of my dress and used it to wrap the injured part. Then continued with cleaning.

"Oh my gosh, girls, she’s ignoring us!"

The next thing I felt was a sharp pain in my ears. I looked up to see Ciara standing beside me, pulling my ears. As I tried to get her hands off my ears, Clara and Claire held my hands from behind.

There was nothing I could do. Then the next thing I felt was a very hard blow to my stomach.

"How dare you ignore us."

"Please, I don’t have time to fight with you guys right now," I pleaded.

The three of them looked at each other before laughing ominously.

"She said she doesn’t have time to fight us, girls," Claire announced.

They laughed ominously again.

"So we teach her a few lessons since she’s lost her manners," Clara asked. The other two nodded.

And that was it. The three of them pounced on me and started tossing me around like I was some tennis ball. It was painful and annoying at the same time. I couldn’t do anything.

As they were about to punch me right in the face, the whole scenario changed, and then I found myself standing right in front of a crowd. Behind me was Asher.

What just happened?

Why am I here? 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"It’s with great joy and also great sadness that I gather you all today," he said. I turned to face him. Suddenly, I began to feel a connection to him, something divine. I knew it too; it was the mate bond. I was sure he felt it too, which was why he called the meeting.

But I didn’t understand why he said it was of great sadness. Getting a mate is something to be happy about; it’s something every wolf dreams and wishes for.

"The moon goddess has already connected me to a mate at last," he said.

Everybody began to make a cheerful noise.

There was something about his tone that felt off like he didn’t agree with the moon goddess.

With a wave of his hands, everywhere became silent at once.

"My mate is none other than the omega wolf who has no family, no history, nothing but just her name, Kira."

The crowd began to make sounds of disappointment and disapproval.

My eyes widened at the mention of my name. Though I knew it was me, I felt the bond too, and I was about to take a step forward, with the joy that, at last, I was free from the shackles of suffering, mated to an alpha. But I was wrong.

He waved his hands again and everywhere became silent once more. "I can see that even you all don’t agree with this," he said, smiling.

Just then, I began to feel a very sharp pain in my heart.

Why?

"I hereby reject Kira, the lowly omega wolf, as my mate and Luna of this pack, and I make Aria, the beta wolf standing next to me, my mate and Luna of this pack."

That was when the pain became more intense; it was rejection pain. At that moment, I became aware of where I was. My Moonkeeper self was back.

What am I doing here?

I remembered the way I felt back then; this pain was nothing like that. I knew that it had to be the entity doing his usual manipulation.

I got the greatest shock of my life when I heard an announcement from Asher. I was to be killed before the day ended.

"No, no," I muttered. "This wasn’t the way I remembered it. It didn’t happen like this. I was told to leave; besides, I left of my own accord because I couldn’t bear the shame. But right now, the entity has changed the narrative. I was to be killed."

I tried making use of my powers, but nothing was working. Asher’s wolf guards already surrounded me, their fangs out and their claws extended. The only option I had was to run for my life.

I was lucky to see an opening between them. I ran towards the opening, pushing down the two guards that were there. As I ran ahead, I heard his cold, still voice: "You can run, but you can’t hide," he said, laughing hysterically.

I clenched my fist and continued running until I met a dead end.

"Fucking illusions," I muttered.

A wall appeared in front of me. I couldn’t climb it because none of my abilities were working. The guards had already caught up with me and were slowly coming closer.

"Is this how I die," I muttered under my breath.

Frustrated and discouraged, I rested on the wall. All hope was lost, then I heard his voice.

Ryker.

"Kira, wake up!" He lamented.

"Ryker! Ryker!!" I called out, but he couldn’t hear me.

"Wherever you are, know that you are strong and you can win this fight."

I felt his warm hands on mine.

At that moment, something began to stir from within me.
