The Rising Phoenix-Chapter 918: All Dead
Even Si Tang and the guard stood frozen for a moment. They had witnessed many battles before, but never anything like this.
Bai Xifeng had barely broken a sweat, yet she had completely wiped out the entire group of assassins without any visible effort.
Bai Xifeng calmly brushed the dust from her sleeve as if nothing unusual had happened. Then she turned around and walked back toward the protective array.
The mist slowly faded behind her.
When she reached them, Zhang Mingzhu looked at her with wide, sparkling eyes. "Sister Bai... you are amazing!" The little girl said excitedly.
Yao Huifang, however, looked at Bai Xifeng with deep shock and heartfelt gratitude. "Young Lady Bai... you saved our lives today." She said sincerely.
Bai Xifeng shook her head slightly. "It was nothing."
Her gaze briefly shifted toward the corpses scattered across the road. Her voice became calm and thoughtful again. "However... this matter is not over."
Someone had clearly planned this assassination carefully, and Bai Xifeng had no doubt that more trouble would come in the future.
Silence lingered on the road after the battle.
The wind slowly swept across the scattered corpses and broken weapons. The faint smell of blood drifted through the air.
Si Tang finally lowered her sword. Her breathing was still slightly uneven, but her gaze remained sharp and vigilant.
"It’s over." Si Tang said quietly.
The last surviving guard walked around the battlefield to make sure none of the assassins was still alive. After checking several bodies carefully, he returned and bowed respectfully.
"Madam, they are all dead." The guard reported.
Yao Huifang finally relaxed slightly.
She gently patted Zhang Mingzhu’s back, trying to calm the frightened girl. Meanwhile, Bai Xifeng stood quietly beside the broken remains of the carriage.
Her expression was thoughtful and calm. She crouched down beside one of the dead assassins and examined the clothing carefully.
The black cloth looked ordinary at first glance. However, Bai Xifeng soon noticed a small symbol hidden inside the sleeve.
A tiny silver pattern.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
Interesting.
She did not say anything and simply stood up again.
Si Tang walked over to her.
"Did you find something?" she asked.
"Nothing important." Bai Xifeng replied calmly.
Si Tang did not press further. She already understood that Bai Xifeng was not someone who would reveal everything she knew. Instead, she simply sighed softly.
"I was careless." Si Tang said. "My father’s concubine must have arranged this attack."
Yao Huifang frowned slightly. "That woman has become more and more ruthless over the years."
Si Tang’s eyes turned cold. "She knows that once I return to Lotus City, my grandfather will support me. That is why she wanted to eliminate me before I could reach the city."
The surviving guard walked over again. "Madam, the carriage has been completely destroyed. We cannot continue our journey with it."
Yao Huifang nodded slowly. "Then we will have to travel on foot until we reach the next town."
Before anyone else could speak, Bai Xifeng suddenly said. "There is no need."
Everyone turned to look at her.
"There should be a small trading post about three kilometres ahead," Bai Xifeng continued calmly. "Travellers often stop there to rest. We can buy another carriage there."
The guard looked surprised. "Young Lady Bai knows this area well?"
Bai Xifeng simply replied, "I passed through here before."
After taking a short rest, the group began walking again.
However, Bai Xifeng was too lazy to walk the entire distance by herself. So she simply called Cerberus.
Everyone immediately became tense again as they saw a beast suddenly appear out of nowhere. The guard quickly stood in front of Yao Huifang and Zhang Mingzhu while looking at the beast warily.
"Don’t attack. This is my contracted beast," Bai Xifeng stated calmly. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"You have a contracted beast?" Si Tang asked in surprise.
"Yes. Well, I often use him as my transportation," Bai Xifeng replied with a small grin.
Everyone was momentarily speechless.
Bai Xifeng then lightly jumped onto Cerberus’s back.
"I will be riding him," Bai Xifeng stated.
"Sister Bai, can I ride with you?" Zhang Mingzhu asked eagerly, her eyes shining with excitement.
"You aren’t afraid of heights?" Bai Xifeng asked.
"No..." Zhang Mingzhu shook her head firmly.
"Well, ask your mother’s permission first," Bai Xifeng said. She did not want Yao Huifang to feel worried about her daughter.
Zhang Mingzhu quickly turned to her mother. "Mom, can I ride with Sister Bai?"
Yao Huifang looked at Bai Xifeng for a moment before finally nodding.
Bai Xifeng jumped down, picked Zhang Mingzhu up easily, and then leapt back onto Cerberus’s back.
The road became quiet once more. However, none of them truly felt relaxed. Especially Si Tang. She kept thinking about the battle earlier. Her gaze occasionally shifted toward Bai Xifeng.
The more she thought about it, the more shocked she felt. This young girl’s strength was truly terrifying. Even her father might not be able to defeat Bai Xifeng so easily.
Meanwhile, Yao Huifang was thinking about something else entirely.
A talented cultivator.
An array master.
And a poison expert.
Not to mention, she possessed a contracted beast that looked extremely terrifying. Such a person was extremely rare. If Bai Xifeng truly entered the cultivation world in the future, her name would certainly spread far and wide.
After walking for some time, the small trading post finally appeared ahead. Several merchants and travellers were resting there.
