Chapter 7 - Connection

"I thought the Alpha would come to visit her at least once," Lucas expressed, flipping the french toast in the buttered pan.

Lydia stared at the floor thoughtfully for a second.

"He is busy."

Lucas couldn't doubt there was anything between Violet and the Alpha, or else with his personality, he will run his mouth about it to everyone. Then, not only would he get in trouble, Lydia would be dragged along as well.

Lucas furrowed his brows, plating the french toast on the plate. Then, he squeezed some syrup on it, and carefully and beautifully placed the berries and apple slices on the side.

Smiling at his presentation, he said, "Alright, wash up the plates. I will take this to Violet. She must be hungry."

Lydia frowned, thinking about something. She brought up, "No matter how lecherous you are, you can't be attracted by Violet. Mind it."

Lucas rose his hands defensively. "Hey, I just find her pitiful. What do you mean lecherous?"

Then, he narrowed her eyes at her, leaning closer to her. Finding discomfort at the distance between them, Lydia took a step back.

"That's suspicious. Why can't I be attracted by Violet?" Lucas questioned sharply.

Lydia placed her hand on his chest and pushed him back. "She is a poor girl. I don't want you to harrass her. That's all."

Lucas looked at her suspiciously. Something was not right.

"The toasts won't be delicious anymore once they are cold," pointed out Lydia.

That made Lucas pick up the plate. He walked away, leaving. In the middle, he halted his steps and turned back, staring at Lydia sharply. Lydia raised one of her brows.

She then added, "Also, let Violet out for a walk after the meal. Some fresh air would be good for her health."

Lucas nodded.

Lucas patted on Violet's shoulder.

"You can walk around as you please. Just don't get hurt," Lucas spoke out.

Violet's eyes took in the expanse in front of her. She had very few opportunities to leave her pack, and the Wild— the area of the forest unoccupied by pack land— was named as a gruesome and frightening space. Rumors had it that spirits and monsters wandered the forests, going after young lives.

However, she was surprised to see the refreshing greenery in front of her. Morning dew gathered on the leaves, glistening. A bunny hopped away deeper into the forest. A comforting woody scent of the forest floated into her senses.

"It's pretty," Violet softly commented. A smile formed on her face.

"As long as you like it," Lucas stated.

"Thank you," Violet expressed. Although she was merely a stranger to him, Lucas was nice and welcoming to her.

When her own didn't think twice before betraying her, he was there to take care of her.

"Aren't you grateful to me? Why don't you devote yourself to me?" Lucas winked mischievously.

Violet's lips parted, frozen by his words.

Lucas let out a wholehearted laugh.

"You look so silly. It was a joke. Alright. I will get going then," Lucas vocalized.

With that, Lucas placed his hands in his pocket. He whistled a tune as he strode away.

Violet walked towards the forest, admiring the view around her. Noticing the colorful butterfly sitting on the flower petal, Violet extended her hand to hold it when the rustling sound disturbed her. The butterfly flew away.

Turning her head, she noticed a man emerge from the dense forestry. He only wore a pair of pants, displaying his upper body naked. He doned a well-maintained muscular body.

Violet's gaze drifted off to his face. His shoulder length black hair was tied by a hair band loosely. Sweat dripped down his body, showing how he had been tired from intense physical activity.

However, what attracted her attention the most was those steely gray eyes— although they were void of emotions, they were intense. Violet's heart skipped a beat.

His eyes met with hers, and Violet was pinned in her position.

Sylas's brows furrowed for a second before smoothening his expression.

"I, uhm, I was rescued by Lucas, and I am currently staying in that house," Violet explained.

The Alpha blood running in her body prevented her from being easily intimidated, but the power radiated by the man in front of her made her nervous.

"I know," came his deep and calm voice. "How are you doing?"

Violet blinked her eyes, not expecting the man to ask about her condition.

"I am doing alright now. They took really good care of me." A small smile formed on her face.

"Make yourself comfortable here. And don't go out frequently. It's dangerous," Sylas advised.

Although the man's voice was gentle, there was a coldness in his demeanor that made one stay cautious.

"I will keep that in mind," Violet replied.

Violet was about to ask him about his identity when a sharp pain travel through her chest, feeling as though something vital to her was torn away. She spurted out blood, and the shock caused her body to fall forward.

Before she could touch the ground, Sylas extended his hand, supporting her body. The excruciating pain blurred all of her senses.

Sylas's gazes stayed on her face for a second prior to lifting her body. The soft yet sharp scent of grape wine filled her senses, subtly intoxicating her.

"Your mate broke off his connection with you," he informed, bringing her into the house.
