Chapter 412: I Remember

"What the hell is going on?!" Jai shouted, making Elsa and Chris turn to look at him.

Marina gently gripped Jai’s arm and tugged. "Jai, it’s over. Let’s go to the living room. I’ll get you some drinks so you can calm down."

"Calm down? None of this makes sense!"

"You heard her, he’s her husband. Doesn’t that make sense to you?" Marina added.

"Definitely not! How can he be her husband? They just met yesterday and he didn’t say anything about her being his wife! Where the hell was he, the last five years?" Jai was determined not to let it go. He was sure that Chris was just fooling Elsa to take advantage of her.

"Jai, please. All of you, please get out... Let us get dressed, and I’ll explain later," Elsa pleaded.

"Come on, let’s go. They need time alone," Elandir said, heading towards the door.

Jai pulled his hand away from Marina’s grasp and insisted, "I am not leaving until I hear the truth!"

"Gosh! I am starting to get annoyed at you, Jai! Isn’t it obvious? Her memories came back, that’s why. What’s the use of being the department head of surgery when you can’t comprehend something too obvious and simple? Come with me, cool down first will you?" Marina grabbed Jai’s arm and forcefully dragged him out of the room.

Elandir and Roxanne followed them, with Roxanne closing the door.

Chris immediately looks at Elsa, with his face showing a thousand questions.

She smiled a bit and wiped his tears with both hands. "I remembered everything when you bit me. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you right away. I don’t know how to tell you, so I decided to wait until we get enough rest before telling you later," Elsa explained.

"I don’t mind at all, you, remembering our past, recognizing me is more than enough," Chris said before touching her hand and giving it a kiss.

"Then why don’t you look happy? What are you worried about?"

"Because I am still alive. I went here because of the goddess’ offer. She said if I tell you who I am then I will die and your memories will come back. But I am still here," Chris said.

"It’s because you didn’t tell me, you silly. Before you bit me I had been wondering already if we know each other. Ever since the teachers of our kids mentioned that they resemble you, I started questioning myself and started to doubt you."

Chris smiled and finally relaxed at the mention of his children. "They do look like the both of us, you did such a wonderful job raising them alone. I am so sorry you had to."

Elsa stood up and extended her hand to help Chris get up, "I know that if you had a choice then you wouldn’t allow me to experience that. What’s important is that you are here now. I can’t wait to introduce you to them.

Come on let’s clean up. I still need to deal with Jai and the hospital. Can you imagine, I am AWOL on my first day of consultation? What would the staff and patients think of me?" Elsa pulled his hand, leading him to the ensuite.

Chris didn’t move an inch, making Elsa look back and wonder. He started to get nervous thinking about his children meeting him as their Dad.

"What’s wrong?" Elsa asked with worry in her face.

"What would they think of me? Where have I been while they were growing up? Why am I not beside them and their mother? And most of all why didn’t I recognize you when I first saw you? They will surely think badly of me!" Chris expressed.

To his surprise, Elsa laughs out loud. "You worry too much. Your kids are smart. Don’t worry I will talk to them first before I introduce you. I will explain it in a way that they would understand. I can’t wait for them to meet you as their father. I am sure they will be happy."

"Are you sure? But Rocco might think differently. He doesn’t think like a typical six-year-old. He speaks like a teenager already."

"That’s too old! Haha! I got this. I won’t let them hate you. Now, follow me, let’s clean up and deal with our problems one step at a time, okay?" Elsa urged.

The two washed up fast so Elsa could deal with Jai. She was still annoyed at him but then they had been friends for a long and she was aware of his romantic feelings for her, so she understood why he acted that way.

After dressing up, Elsa went to the living room first with Chris following her not far behind. She wanted to talk to Jai alone to not disregard his feelings for him. He had never treated her badly and she had relied on him so many times in the past.

"Jai..." Elsa called, "Can we talk? Let’s go to the garden and talk there."

Jai nodded and followed Elsa calmly. She was happy to see that her friend somehow came to his senses and perhaps Marina and Elandir had already talked to him.

"Is it true? Is he really your husband, the father of Rocco, Rosey, and Daisy?" he asked even before stepping on the gazebo.

Elsa took a deep breath before turning around to face him. "Yes, Jai, he is. I just remembered earlier. I was planning to tell everyone later on but you found out before I had the chance. I’m sorry about my absence in the hospital and I admit it’s my fault. I will accept my punishment."

"Forget about the hospital, I’ll put it under medical emergency since it has something to do with your medical condition..." Jai said in a gloomy tone. He had both hands in his pocket and looking down while absentmindedly kicking the grass on the ground.

"I’m sorry..." Elsa uttered softly.

Jai lifted his head with watery eyes and stared at Elsa. "It is me who should say sorry for the way I acted. I should be happy for you and for the children. But deep inside me, I am not. I’m sorry..."

"I understand and I won’t force you to. I’m sorry this happened. You are a great guy, and there are a lot of women out there who are dying to get your attention. Like the doctor in the pediatric department. I heard she’s head over heels in love with you," Elsa quipped, trying to make him feel better.

He did not disappoint her, Jai chuckled and blacked away his tears, "Right, I guess we are just not meant to be..."

"W-We can s-still be friends right?" Elsa asked with hesitation.

"Yeah, but give me time. I need some time away from you. Perhaps I should give you a punishment after all, maybe that would make me feel better," Jai jested, making both of them laugh.

Before they could continue, they heard a beep and saw Roxanne rushing to the gate, opening it. Rocco and the twins had arrived with Elsa’s driver and their nanny Wena.

"Sorry, I must leave. I still need to talk to my kids."

"Go ahead, I will also head back to the hospital. I’ll see you at work."

Elsa gave her friend one last hug, a tight one, before greeting her kids.
