The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL]-Chapter 907: To Be Worthy of Burdens
Apparently, long enough to cause a certain golden-eyed cadet to feel extremely uncomfortable.
From the moment he first learned about the parasite, all the way to the moment the two elves stepped out of DG’s booth, Luca couldn’t help but feel bothered.
They hadn’t finished all the discussions just yet.
He was hoping to hear more about how they ended up in House Kyros, but unfortunately, they had to finish up for the day because they needed to keep up appearances.
But hearing about the conflict alone had been a big deal already.
While Luca had experienced cruelty from all sorts of people, he had thankfully been blessed with a family that loved him. So he couldn’t imagine how it must have felt for betrayal to come from his own twin.
For what? For a mere title? For a bloodline ability?
It was really a disturbing story. Bartering for Rahil’s life in exchange for Elior’s bloodline ability was one of the most sinister things Luca had heard recently.
How was he even planning on taking someone else’s bloodline ability to begin with?
More importantly, did he really have to do such a despicable thing for a crown?
And yet, apparently, their story would have sounded like a tall tale to everyone else. With Prince Eren’s current magnanimous reputation and Prince Elior’s conversely muddied past, it would have been difficult for others to believe his words.
But it was different for Luca, who had seen the evidence of tampering himself. Unless the prince had no qualms about using his own body as a sacrifice to house a parasite, then maybe he could be lying.
He just didn’t think that would be the case for someone who clearly fought so hard to stay alive.
So clearly, something was really amiss with the Lumirian Elves.
However, even with such a heartbreaking account, Luca was surprised when his husband only agreed to let them go, provided they agreed to be bound by The Seal of Thorns.
The little wife practically gasped.
He didn’t think he’d ever use it again, and hesitated because it felt too impersonal for people who were already in a desperate position.
But maybe Luca had also grown a bit since then, because while it felt like a heartless move, it was also a logical one.
There were so many people to protect, and with such a stake, they really couldn’t afford to take less precautions, especially since they hadn’t fully verified the situation.
Princess Kira, as well as the others who didn’t know about the existence of the seal, obviously had questions.
[SEAL OF THORNS]
[8,000 CP/Thorn]
[Item Description: A crimson bloom of twisted spiritual energy unfurls behind this item’s seal. When activated, it creates a pain-based seal that triggers upon clause violation. Each Clause requires a thorn.]
[One-time use per seal]
[Clause enforcement escalation is automatic]
[Impossible to remove unless by the original caster]
The Orc Princess stopped momentarily, and Luca couldn’t help but be nervous.
But surprisingly, she agreed.
Huh?
More importantly, both the Elven Prince and his aide actually agreed without much of a fuss.
Elior was actually thankful for the existence of such a seal. Now, he wasn’t certain whether it would actually work, but he felt better about its existence.
As people who were sincere about their gratefulness, it didn’t matter if they had to swear such an assurance. But it was comforting to know that these people had a way to protect themselves and a way to even protect against him.
It may have sounded heartless coming from Young Lord Xavier, but with him being made into a carrier without his knowledge, who knows what else Eren could be planning?
So they swore upon a scroll in the center of a radiant sigil drawn with spiritual ink.
A shimmer of thorns laced with pale golden light began to wrap around their wrists, and like a tattoo, it was pressed into their souls.
__
Luca watched them leave before turning to Princess Kira, who looked like a piece of her soul had been taken out of her as she watched her fiancé disappear into the crowd.
He meant to apologize for having them sealed like that, but he was surprised when she spoke up first.
"I think I haven’t thanked you yet."
Princess Kira was still staring at the crowd from the service exit before she tilted her head down and smiled at Luca.
The golden-eyed guild leader, who couldn’t help but feel guilty, quickly shook his hands to say there was no need for thanks. He was actually about to apologize for also having to protect their own secrets like that.
But surprisingly, when Luca looked over again, Princess Kira now had a big grin.
"No. I really need to thank you. We all do. For saving them and all of us once again."
"As for the seal, I actually understand. That was really the smartest thing to do. I have long since understood why some secrets are better off as secrets and we clearly have something worth protecting."
The shorter cadet felt his chest tighten at that.
"I think it was perfectly appropriate. Moreover, trust is something that should be earned. Especially for cases where one couldn’t simply think about oneself, this becomes very important."
"I want to trust him, too. I want to have the same kind of trust you share with your husband."
Luca blinked at that before blushing.
Princess Kira looked forward once again.
"But I guess before I could do that, I need to grow in power!"
"Huh?"
Now, to say that Luca was confused would be an understatement, because what did trust have to do with growing in power?
But to Princess Kira, it had everything to do with each other.
"Well, isn’t your husband very reliable and trustworthy?" she asked.
The little wife nodded eagerly.
"Don’t you feel like things would work out because he’s around?"
Luca nodded again, even faster this time.
"Well, I just saw him make it happen again today and was very envious."
"???"
"Sorry, what? I’m not sure I follow."
Princess Kira then smiled.
"You know, when I demanded to know why Bunbun didn’t go and tell me about his problems so I could help him?"
"Well, I realized just moments ago that such was all talk."
"I was all talk."
Princess Kira tilted her head wistfully.
"Because when it came down to it, and given the same opportunity, I had spoken a lot of words and issued a lot of threats, but in the same period, it was Xavier who managed to get D-29 to prepare countermeasures against surveillance."
"!"
"It was also your husband who ordered additional protection to follow them around after they returned."
"While it would evidently protect them too, in the end, it was a great compromise—with him protecting you while at the same time respecting your likely desire to help them too."
"!!!"
"I want to be like your husband. I want to be powerful enough to be just as reliable. Then I would actually have the right to ask that he share his burdens with me."
Princess Kira spoke about her new goal, but Luca was too far gone to continue listening.
His heart was demanding to see his husband.
