The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 75: Wanting to Celebrate My Sister’s Birthday
"Don’t have any thoughts about me, my attitude has already made it clear."
Holly Sawyer spoke directly, without any hint of tact.
Not liking someone just means not liking them.
"I just wanted to celebrate your birthday."
Henry Hughes remained silent for a long time before he slowly spoke.
He had long known the outcome; Holly’s attitude was clear, but hearing it again still made him feel uncomfortable.
It’s indeed a rather sad thing when the person you like doesn’t like you back.
"I’ll leave after eating."
Holly glanced at the table full of dishes, casting a detached look at Henry Hughes, her voice cold and indifferent.
"Okay."
Henry Hughes looked deeply at Holly Sawyer, seeming to have many things to say but ultimately said nothing.
If he did speak, Holly wouldn’t listen, so it was better not to say anything at all.
"For you."
Holly didn’t eat much; her appetite was poor. As she finished, Henry Hughes took out a jewelry box and pushed it in front of Holly.
"I don’t want it."
Holly cast a fleeting glance at the box, rejecting it without even touching it.
The things Henry Hughes gave, she didn’t feel necessary to accept, nor did she think it appropriate.
"Just open it and take a look."
Henry Hughes said.
Holly gave a faint glance at Henry Hughes and opened the box, a quiet necklace lay inside, elegant and pretty.
It happened to be the style Holly liked.
"It’s nice, but I don’t need it."
Holly shook her head, returning the box to Henry Hughes.
Items that shouldn’t be accepted, she wouldn’t take them; she didn’t need the kind of ties that couldn’t be easily severed, it’s troublesome.
"Birthday gift for you."
Henry Hughes pushed the box back to Holly, gently biting his lip, his tone indifferent.
He wouldn’t take back what he gave.
"I don’t want it."
Holly declined.
The gift was actually quite valuable, making her feel uncomfortable accepting it.
"What I give won’t be taken back. You can refuse, can discard it, but please don’t return it to me."
Henry Hughes was quite stubborn, leaving the gift in front of Holly, hoping she would accept it.
"Okay."
Holly stood up, holding the box in her hand, her tone very calm.
She precisely threw the box into the trash can inside the clean room, making it conspicuous.
"You said it could be thrown."
Hands in her pockets, Holly’s voice was measured.
Things she didn’t care about, she truly didn’t need to pay attention to.
Not liking Henry Hughes, not feeling for him, she felt no need to care about his feelings.
Caring too much about others would only lead to living a life of exhaustion.
"Sam, are you really... so heartless? Can’t we even be friends?"
Henry Hughes managed a bitter smile, the box in the trash seemed to mock him, bringing a feeling of irony.
"What do you think?"
Holly retorted.
Henry should be clear about what he had done before.
Holly wasn’t a heartless person, but because Henry liked her and confessed, she turned cold towards him.
Ultimately, it was due to what Henry had done.
"Fine, I..."
Just as Henry was about to say something, his phone rang, prompting him to move aside to answer it.
"Sorry, something urgent came up."
After taking the call, Henry left hurriedly, only giving Holly a nod.
Holly was indifferent.
After Henry left, Holly also departed.
——
This year’s birthday was quite lonely without the usual bustle, but Holly didn’t feel much about it.
She actually liked this peace; returning to the Grant Family in the afternoon, it was quiet, with Leo yet to return and Mrs. Hayes not around.
Feeling quite hungry, especially after not eating enough at the resort in the morning.
Holly was contemplating stepping out for food when her phone suddenly rang—it was Nancy Miller inviting her out for a meal.
Holly immediately agreed.
"Sis, over here."
Inside the hotpot restaurant, Nancy Miller had been waiting for Holly for quite some time, having already ordered a table full of dishes.
"Weren’t you talking about losing weight before?"
Holly’s mouth twitched slightly, the food seemed very much to her taste.
Yet, Nancy had previously claimed she was dieting and now suddenly invited her for hotpot—it seemed a bit off.
"Eating occasionally isn’t a big deal, knowing you like it, I wanted to treat you to a hotpot."
Nancy playfully blinked, ever since she learned Holly was her half-sister, her usual aloofness had gradually faded.
Now Nancy Miller appeared almost childlike in Holly’s presence.
"Here, sis, try this."
Nancy picked up a piece of cooked beef and placed it in Holly’s bowl, enthusiastic to no end.
Holly: "..."
She felt Nancy was acting strangely today, though couldn’t pinpoint exactly why, just finding it odd.
"Nancy, don’t you think you’re acting a bit weird today?"
Holly studied Nancy, slowly making her statement.
Nancy indeed seemed strange, not acting like her usual self.
"Not at all, there isn’t anything on my face, is there?"
Nancy blinked, and looking puzzled, she glanced at Holly, touching her face.
"Oh, sis, this is for you."
Nancy placed a fine gift bag in front of Holly, eyes sparkling with amusement.
"What is it?"
Holly was a bit bewildered.
"It’s a birthday gift."
Nancy stated, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"How did you know today is my birthday?"
Holly was somewhat surprised, incredulous as she looked at Nancy.
She had never mentioned her birthday to Nancy, so it was mystifying how Nancy knew it was today.
"You’re my sister."
"My mom told me; she knows your birthday and wants to invite you to our house tonight for dinner, to celebrate your birthday."
Nancy propped her chin as she gazed at Holly, her eyes full of earnestness.
Wendy Wright clearly remembered Miles Miller’s birth date because at the time she deeply loved Miles, and upon learning of Nancy’s birth, she had experienced a breakdown.
"Thank you for your gift."
"Mrs. Hayes thought of it."
Holly smiled, genuinely feeling happy.
This feeling, it’s the feeling of being cared for.
"Mom’s prepared the food at home, come over tonight."
Nancy smiled as she spoke.
She liked Holly as her sister, wanting to celebrate Holly’s birthday—after all, it was the first time she would be doing so.
"Okay."
Holly hesitated momentarily, then nodded in agreement.
