Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Want to Eat Lots of Delicious Food

Caught a cold, and the little girl won’t take her medicine, how can that be?

"Pinky promise."

Holly Sawyer extended her little finger, gently biting her lip and blinked as she spoke.

Leo Grant laughed and played that childish little game with Holly, and only then did she agree to take the medicine.

"Is it bitter?"

Watching the little girl swallow the medicine, Leo Grant chuckled as he looked at her. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Holly Sawyer shook her head.

The medicine wasn’t bitter; it was sweet.

After finishing the medicine, Holly curled up in the blanket, revealing a pair of dark eyes looking at Leo Grant.

Those eyes looked so pitiful, as if they were speaking.

"What’s wrong?"

Seeing her aggrieved expression, Leo truly felt a bit heartbroken.

"Brother, I’m hungry..."

Holly blinked, and her stomach had long been rumbling, clamoring for food.

"Alright, I’ll have Mrs. Hayes make something delicious for you."

Leo ruffled Holly’s hair and then walked out.

Holly’s eyes gleamed with joy, looking forward to the food.

After Leo left, the smile on Holly’s face disappeared. She lay sprawling on the bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze.

Darn, since when did her constitution become so weak? Catching a cold and actually getting sick.

She disliked taking medicine and seldom got sick, usually healthy all year round. Catching a cold or fever was rare. She had no idea why today she inexplicably caught a cold.

Having a cold was quite uncomfortable.

A few minutes later, Leo came in with a bowl of porridge. Holly looked eagerly at the bowl of white rice and blinked.

Century egg and lean pork congee, not all plain white rice, right? Plenty of meat and century egg, but to Holly, it appeared to be just plain rice.

"Brother..."

Holly looked up, her eyes glistening with moisture, her gaze pitiably directed at Leo.

Just porridge?

That felt too pitiful.

The delicious foods she imagined were spicy chicken, braised pork ribs, shredded pork in garlic sauce, braised pork with pickled vegetables, Mapo tofu, braised beef...

Not this bowl of plain-looking century egg and lean pork congee.

"Weren’t you hungry? Why aren’t you eating?"

Leo placed the bowl directly in front of Holly, seemingly ready to spoon-feed her.

"Can I change it? I don’t like century egg and lean pork congee."

Holly bit her lip tightly, cautiously inquiring.

"Sure."

Leo nodded.

Holly immediately broke into a grin, her previously faltering face quickly filled with a happy smile.

"Corn and lean pork congee, rib congee, sweet potato congee, carrot congee, chestnut congee... Quite a few options, you can choose your favorite."

Leo counted his fingers seriously, speaking in an earnest tone.

He could guess her thoughts, but he felt she should eat something light.

Holly: "..."

Fallen into a congee pit?

All congee, no options beyond congee at all.

"I don’t want congee."

Holly looked defiant, the delicacies she longed for weren’t like this.

She wanted sweet and sour pork ribs, spicy chicken, Mapo tofu, shredded pork in garlic sauce, hot pot, barbecue, and a lot of other delectable treats.

"Be good, listen, once you’re better, I’ll take you for some treats."

Leo gently ruffled Holly’s hair, softly coaxing her.

Eating light while having a cold will help recover faster.

Holly took a deep breath, "Brother..."

She gazed at Leo pitifully, eyes full of longing, damp and almost on the verge of tears.

Leo: "..."

Dammit, he almost couldn’t resist agreeing.

She was so pitiable, he felt heartache just looking at her.

"Be good, listen."

Leo held the bowl, gently furrowing his brow, his tone brooking no refusal.

"Alright then."

After a small skirmish, Holly conceded and eventually drank the congee.

——

On September 24th, Leo had gone out early in the morning. After he left, Holly went out as well.

Leo left quite early today. Holly was slightly curious but didn’t overthink it.

She looked at the information on her phone, then hailed a taxi, giving the driver an address. The driver gave Holly a peculiar look but said nothing.

The taxi drove further away, leaving the bustling city behind, entering a rural area where the ground was muddy, mingling with the aroma of earth.

"Little girl, this place is quite remote..."

The driver glanced at Holly through the rearview mirror, giving a slight warning.

The car drove further into a secluded area; a little girl coming here alone wasn’t entirely safe.

"I know."

Holly nodded.

She was very aware of how remote it was.

The car soon drove into a resort. After paying, Holly got out.

At the entrance of the resort stood a man in a black baseball cap, the brim pulled low, wearing a white shirt and black trousers.

"You’re here?"

Seeing Holly, the man lifted his cap slightly, a look of delight on his face.

"Yeah."

Holly’s expression was calm as she shoved her hands in her pockets, exuding a chilly vibe.

"Still as indifferent."

Henry Hughes looked at Holly and said helplessly.

Holly had always been indifferent to him since he showed his feelings, never a hint of warmth.

Holly didn’t respond.

"Come on in, I’ve got some food prepared for you."

Henry didn’t say much more, inviting Holly inside, knowing that saying more was futile with her.

"Okay."

Following Henry inside, Holly maintained her silence.

The resort environment was great, with few people. Henry had already reserved a private room, and half of the dishes were already served.

A large table full of Holly’s favorites awaited, yet the usual excitement she had upon seeing food was now absent.

"Sit."

Henry pulled out a chair for Holly.

Holly sat down without a word.

"Can’t you pretend to be a bit happier upon seeing me?"

Seeing Holly’s indifferent attitude, Henry chuckled bitterly and spoke slowly.

"What do you think?"

Holly looked up, questioning back.

She never welcomed Henry, yet he insisted on coming. How could she be welcoming?

The answer was, of course, not possible.

"I mean no harm, I just wanted to celebrate your birthday. Twenty-one, I missed your twentieth, and I don’t want to miss the twenty-first."

Henry spoke softly with a slight smile on his lips.

He missed celebrating Holly’s twentieth birthday and didn’t want to miss her twenty-first.

He always knew Holly had issues with him, but he didn’t care.
