Chapter 179: Chapter 179 This car is too awesome!

John Adams casually pressed the lock on his key, making the Camry’s lights flash with a pleasant sound. Lisa Smith opened the passenger door and said to Sarah Utah, "Sarah, do you want to come in and sit for a while, to experience what a good car feels like?"

Sarah Utah found her classmate somewhat laughable. They only had a Camry; how could they claim James Brown’s Porsche was a lousy car? She shook her head and said, "No, we’ll just stick with our own car."

With a proud smirk, Lisa said, "Alright then, I hope you can afford a good car soon so you won’t lose face at reunions and such."

Sarah nodded, "We’ll try our best."

Lisa was about to sit in the car but then she got out, leaned on the door, and said, "You go ahead." She felt that if Sarah didn’t see her getting into the QQ, Sarah wouldn’t feel inferior, and she wouldn’t be able to vent the frustration Sarah had caused her over the years.

James chuckled, "Sarah, let’s go then."

Lisa immediately nodded vigorously, "Yes, you go ahead." However, her eyes were fixed on the QQ; she relished this feeling of superiority.

Just then, a young couple arrived and the man opened the door of the QQ and they both sat inside and drove away swiftly.

Lisa and John Adams were stunned. Wasn’t the QQ James and Sarah’s car? Why did someone else just drive it away? That meant the QQ wasn’t theirs at all. Now, only the Camry and the Porsche remained, and the Porsche certainly wasn’t Sarah and James’s. Realizing this, Lisa was ecstatic inside; Sarah and James didn’t even have a car, yet they pretended they did.

Frowning, Lisa seriously said, "Sarah, this isn’t right. If we don’t have a car, we should work harder to buy one. How can you claim to have one when you don’t? This isn’t the Sarah I know. When did you become so vain, and when did you start lying? We’re old classmates; do you really need to do this?"

Lisa felt exhilarated inside. She had always known she was less attractive and not as diligent as Sarah, who excelled in school and would surely be diligent at work. Aside from boyfriends, Lisa didn’t think she could surpass Sarah in anything. Yet now, she had a chance to criticize her, and it felt fantastic.

John Adams squinted his eyes. Considering Sarah’s apparent obsession with appearances, she clearly loved money. If he played his cards right, perhaps he could make her his mistress someday, which would certainly be more prestigious than being seen with Lisa.

Sarah, somewhat baffled by Lisa’s question, replied, "We never said we bought a car. This car belongs to the company; James is just driving it."

Lisa clicked her tongue, "Sarah, how can you still say that? There are only these two cars here; you still claim to have one? Could it be that the Porsche is yours? You’re really going to make me die of laughter."

"Not bad, not bad!" John Adams nodded, saying, "Here in YODC City, there are no more than five Porsches. Usually, those who own such cars are rich heirs. There’s no company that uses a Porsche as a company car. I’ve been in business for years and know most of the CEOs; I’ve never seen any company using a Porsche as a business car. Your statement... is kind of far-fetched."

Sarah just smiled wryly and said, "I wouldn’t know about that."

Lisa interrupted Sarah, waving her hand even more arrogantly, "Alright, alright, Sarah, let us give you a lift. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a car."

James didn’t say anything but pressed the Porsche’s remote. Instantly, its lights turned on. He then walked over, opened the passenger door, and said to Sarah, "Sarah, let’s go."

Sarah nodded and apologetically said to Lisa, "Sorry, we’re leaving now."

As Sarah was about to get into the car, both Lisa and John Adams were dumbfounded. They had always thought of James, the manager of a small company, as a useless guy with a nominal position. Even with a Porsche right there, they never imagined it was James’s car.

Especially since they had just been mocking Sarah, now seeing her get into the car was like a slap in their faces. Their faces turned the color of liver, mouths agape in stunned disbelief.

Porsche 991, oh, that’s a car worth millions. Their Camry, even ten of them, wouldn’t match up. They felt utterly humiliated, wishing they could just disappear.

Before getting into the car, Sarah waved at Lisa, saying, "Goodbye."

"Good... goodbye..." Lisa felt her arm stiffen as if lead had been poured into it, her voice so faint she couldn’t even hear herself until the Porsche 991 sped away, disappearing from sight, completely dumbfounding her.

"Husband, didn’t you say that J Corporation was a small company?" After a while, Lisa finally regained her composure and asked John Adams with confusion.

Frowning, John Adams said, "Yes, there are only a few big companies in YODC City, and J Corporation isn’t one of them. I get it now, James must be some rich heir, and Sarah is probably being kept by him. As for the company and the manager role, those are probably just for fun."

Lisa scoffed, "I thought so, huh. Even if they are rich, so what? She’s just someone’s mistress, nothing to be proud of."

The words were dripping with envy, and her face openly displayed her jealousy and bitterness.

Sarah was in the car with James Brown at the time, and she couldn’t help but laugh as she said, "What’s with Lisa Smith? Why does she talk so nonsensically?"

James, holding the steering wheel, chuckled, "She must have always been jealous of you. Now that she’s doing well, she wanted to show off in front of you, but it backfired and she ended up embarrassing herself."

Sarah sighed and said, "She has always had issues with me. I didn’t expect that after all these years, she would still be the same. By the way, Big Brother Brown, you weren’t upset by what she said, were you?"

James turned to look at Sarah, his eyes smiling as he replied, "What do I have to be upset about?"

"It’s good you’re not upset. I was worried that her words might make you unhappy."

"I’m not that petty. Come on, it’s getting late, I’ll take you home."

Ten minutes later, James dropped Sarah off outside Michelle’s House. As Sarah opened the car door, she turned to James and, with a sweet smile, said, "Big Brother Brown, thank you for accompanying me to the movies."

James let out a chuckle and replied, "Why the courtesy? Aren’t we friends? Watching a movie is no big deal."

A slight blush appeared on Sarah’s face as she softly asked, "Can I still invite you to the movies, Big Brother Brown?"

From Sarah’s expression, James could tell there were feelings involved. He had not wanted to get involved in a romantic relationship before, and now that he and Emma Campbell had made it official, he didn’t want to do anything to hurt Emma. So he simply smiled at Sarah and said, "Of course, as long as my girlfriend isn’t busy, you can ask me."

Sarah’s eyes lit up. "Then it’s a deal! You can’t back out."

"Of course not; go on and get back, it’s late," James said with a grin, waving his hand.

Sarah cheerfully got out of the car, waved at James, and stood at the entrance of the complex, watching his car. James knew that if he didn’t leave, Sarah wouldn’t go inside. He turned the steering wheel, honked the horn, and quickly drove away.

Sarah hadn’t seemed upset about him mentioning his girlfriend, which made James feel that he had been overthinking. Sarah probably just saw him as a good friend. Interacting with Sarah in the future would be much easier.

When he got home, James turned on his phone, which had several missed calls from Gina Lopez and Emily Lopez. He ignored Gina’s calls and was hesitating about returning Emily’s call when her phone rang again.

"Emily, what’s the rush to find me?" James asked.

"Brother-in-law, why was your phone off?" she immediately asked.

"I went to see a movie and turned off my phone."

"Did you actually go to a movie? With your girlfriend?" Emily’s voice rose a few decibels.

"No, with a friend."

"Wow, brother-in-law, that’s not cool. Skipping out on your girlfriend to watch a movie with someone else. Was she a pretty girl?"

"Ha, what did you want to talk about?"

"Just wanted to hang out. Didn’t I say I was going to pursue you? Of course, I had to ask you out," Emily giggled.

"Emily, stop joking around."

"I’m serious! Anyway, I think you’re great, my sister has no taste. I’ll steal you to be my husband, let her have you as a brother-in-law. Haha, just think about it - you used to be her boyfriend, I called you brother-in-law, and if you were my husband, she’d have to call you brother-in-law."

James suddenly felt a headache coming on. What was Emily thinking? He said with a bitter smile, "Emily, my heart can’t take this kind of teasing, please let me be."

"No way, if I like someone, I go for it. I don’t want to regret it for the rest of my life like my sister, who foolishly focuses only on work."
