Chapter 462: Chapter 462: Give Up Treatment

Yu Shuhua stood in front of the hospital room for a long time.

He Rongwei was intubated all over, the red and green lights on the monitors flashing incessantly, signaling his dire situation.

Through the glass, Yu Shuhua could see her own blurred, translucent reflection, her face, obviously no longer young, bore a deep-seated resentment.

She was He Rongwei’s third wife, but also the one with the lowest family status, or rather, she had no family background at all, her origins were very ordinary.

It was just that in her youth, she caught He Rongwei’s eye and was forcibly taken as his mistress by his forceful methods.

He Rongwei always wanted a son, but perhaps it was karma for all the wrongdoings, he not only lacked a son, but also had very few children at all.

The women who could not get pregnant for a long time were all dismissed with money by He Rongwei.

Only she bore him a son.

He Rongwei then divorced his first wife and elevated her to her current position.

But the title of Madam He wasn’t all that glamorous.

After all, her only value was bearing He Rongwei a son, and she had nothing else, so in the He family, her status was only a little above that of a servant.

And the insults and blames from He Rongwei were daily occurrences.

She had also become accustomed to being subservient.

It wasn’t until Xiao Ye took over the company that He Rongwei’s attitude towards her improved slightly.

Yu Shuhua also lived a good life thanks to Xiao Ye.

So, to be asked to return to her previous humble life was something she was unwilling to do.

She didn’t want to live her life watching people’s faces again.

Nor did she want Xiao Ye to be oppressed by He Rongwei and He Mingzhu for life.

Releasing a long sigh of frustration, she rubbed her eyes, and when the doctor arrived, her eyes were particularly red.

The doctor said with sympathy, "Madam He, President He’s condition is quite serious. Although the chances of treatment are slim, there is still hope. However, he might have to stay unconscious for a long time, so please be prepared mentally."

Yu Shuhua clenched her purse tightly and after a long pause, she asked calmly, "What’s the chance of him regaining consciousness?"

The doctor hesitated, "Five percent."

"Not even ten percent," Yu Shuhua whispered with a heavy tone.

"Yes, Madam He, even with a five percent chance, we’ll do our best."

"Discontinue the treatment," Yu Shuhua said calmly.

The doctor was taken aback, "Discontinue?"

Yu Shuhua enunciated clearly, "I understand what you mean. There’s only a five percent chance he’ll be saved, and even if rescued, he will be in a coma for a long time."

"Indeed, that’s the case."

"My husband is a man of pride and dignity, he would never wish to lie in a bed immobilized," Yu Shuhua said resolutely, "Discontinue the treatment."

The patient was critically injured and had low chances of regaining consciousness, so the doctor would ask the family if they wanted to discontinue treatment.

But He Rongwei was, after all, the chairman of a listed company, and the doctor hadn’t even considered the possibility they would give up, so no compromise had been offered.

"I’m his wife, don’t I have the right to make this decision?" Yu Shuhua turned to look at the doctor, her demeanor cold and arrogant.

The doctor hesitated slightly, then nodded, "I understand, Madam He. Please come with me to complete the formalities."

Yu Shuhua nodded, took one last deep look at the unconscious He Rongwei, and followed the doctor away.

"Just let it be, He Rongwei. You’ve let down too many people in your lifetime. Go to hell and apologize to them."

Having signed the last document, Yu Shuhua felt a weight lift from her heart as she followed the doctor back to the outside of the hospital room.

The medical staff were methodically dismantling the equipment.

"What are you doing?" A sharp female voice rose.

He Mingzhu burst into the ward, her eyes wide with fury as she demanded, "Why did you unplug the oxygen? And these machines, why are you taking them apart?"

The doctor explained, "Madam He signed her consent to discontinue the treatment."

"Discontinue the treatment?" He Mingzhu screamed in disbelief, "I’m her daughter. Any decision to stop treatment should have my consent, and I do not agree."

She glared at Yu Shuhua with venomous eyes and slapped her across the face, "Yu Shuhua, you wretch, who allowed you to make decisions on your own?"

Yu Shuhua covered her cheek, silently observing her stepdaughter as she cursed with filthy language.

They were already at this point; there was no need to endure anymore.

She almost spoke words of persuasion, but then she swallowed them back.

Yu Shuhua feigned astonishment, "Who are you? Who let you barge in here?"

He Mingzhu raged, "Yu Shuhua, you ask who I am? Are you playing dumb?"

"This lady, I really don’t know you, and I’d ask you to leave and not disturb my husband," Yu Shuhua pleaded through tears, playing the part of the devoted wife.

The surrounding doctors and nurses looked on in bewilderment, seemingly unsure whose orders to follow.

He Mingzhu then vociferated, "I am Miss He of the He family, He Mingzhu, the daughter of He Rongwei, and I have the right to decide on my father’s treatment."

She was interrupted before she could finish.

"You are not Mingzhu." She regarded the person before her with a firm demeanor, cold and incisive, "Our Mingzhu doesn’t look like this. How dare you impersonate her."

"Call security, get this imposter out of here."

The doctor had seen He Mingzhu before and knew she didn’t look like this. Thus, without hesitation, he chose to believe Yu Shuhua and summoned security to take He Mingzhu away.

No matter how much He Mingzhu screamed, it was useless.

Thrown out the front door, the security guard offered some sympathetic advice, "Miss, do you know who that is inside? Daring to impersonate Miss He, aren’t you afraid they’ll ruin your family?"

"You idiots, I am He Mingzhu." He Mingzhu stamped her feet and yelled at the security guard, "Blind fools, I’ll have you fired!"

The guard, feeling his kindness was not appreciated and now angry, took out his phone, pulled up a photo, and thrust it in front of He Mingzhu, "Look, this is Miss He Mingzhu. You..."

He looked her up and down with scorn, "You should take a good look in the mirror. You look nothing like Miss He."

He Mingzhu was taken aback, instinctively touching her face, and only then remembered that her face was no longer as it once was.

The guard put his phone away, muttering, "Besides, Miss He is gentle and beautiful, not like some crazy hag like you."

He Mingzhu let out a piercing scream and disappeared into the crowd, running away.

She couldn’t accept such a reality. She had had her face surgically altered to look exactly like Cheng Zhiwei, just to spite her, but now she realized that she had lost completely.

She had neither family nor even her face left.

He Rongwei was declared dead after unsuccessful resuscitation efforts, and the funeral was held with great grandeur.

However, during the funeral, the police arrived, stating that someone had reported that He Rongwei’s death was caused by foul play. He Ye calmly allowed them to investigate, and it wasn’t until they reviewed the surveillance footage that they discovered He Rongwei had indeed slipped and fallen down the stairs, an accidental death.

"Xiao Ye, no one will ever dare to bully you again," Yu Shuhua whispered to He Ye, "We won."
