The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 124: Ch : Surely it’s not the Same?- Part 2
I tried to sleep after that, but sleep would not come to me. The thought of that dungeon left untouched kept haunting me, and I knew I needed to check up on it.
So despite knowing well that I should not look it up, I still opened the hunter’s net to check up on the dungeon where Emma’s son had disappeared into.
But on the surface, there was no information.
"Huh-! How can there be no news of that? A hunter disappeared and no one even made a fuss?"
It was understandable that the hunters were not talking about it because the case was suppressed. But the fact that even the media had not picked up this case was what bothered me.
’Or... maybe the media did pick up this case, but they were silenced by someone. I need to dig in deeper to find out what happened.’
I told myself as I opened the system once more. But this time, I decided to look behind the security bars where the forbidden data was.
[Would user like to use their authority to override the system security protocol?]
The system asked me, and I didn’t hesitate to give my answer.
"Of course. I won’t be doing all this if I was not ready for the consequences."
I told myself as I opened the last window before I was granted access inside.
The forbidden zone felt like a treasure trove of information. This was the perfect place for someone to find the information to blackmail someone else.
Usually, if you were to delete information from the system, it was believed to be gone forever. After all, unlike phones or other devices, the system did not store one’s personal data... or so was believed. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
But the zone I was in was different.
It was so interesting that I almost got distracted before I recalled that I was here to do some very specific work, and I got back to work.
Looking around a little more, I finally reached the section that had the information regarding dungeons, and I searched for Emma’s name first.
There were more than a few hunters over the years named Emma, and I quickly filtered through them to find someone who had mention of Emma as a parent.
There were five hunters and three male alphas. So I separated those cases and read the files one by one until I found one that had Emma and Ben listed as his parents.
"Hmm, let’s see. A promising hunter, went to the dungeon Hell’s Fire opened nine years ago. Status: M.I.A. Declared Status: Deceased. The case shall be buried as our failure at closing the dungeon."
I felt like I was going to fall. Thankfully, I was already sitting, so nothing happened. But my shock was more at the fact that the dungeon Emma’s son went inside was the same one from ten years ago.
That also meant that some of it was my fault that this happened. Had I closed the dungeon in time as I was supposed to, Emma’s son might be with her right now.
’Don’t be ridiculous. He was a reckless fool who chose to go inside a dungeon that had not been closed in the past nine years. His recklessness would have caused him to die sooner or later.’
My brain reminded me, and I agreed with it to some extent.
But at the same time, I also felt responsible for all of this somehow. As I kept looking at the screen to see if I could find out any more, Kuro decided to enter my room.
He was in cat form but also cautious about whether he could enter or not.
I signaled for Kuro to enter, but he still hesitated before he came inside. The cat kept his distance as he shot me a look from his place on the ground.
"What are you researching so seriously? Is there anything I can do to help you out?"
Kuro asked in a serious voice, and I had to think about it. Was there anything Kuro could help with? I could only think of one thing here.
"Actually, there is something you can help me with. Have you ever heard of a dungeon called Hell’s Fire? It has been open for the past ten years near an inactive volcano."
If anyone had a chance to know anything, it was likely Kuro.
"Hmm, let me think. That does sound familiar... ah, now I remember—it’s the incubation ground for one of the high priests. But you should stay away from that place. It will likely never hatch the high priest inside because they keep getting eaten. It’s not a place for one to walk around inside."
Kuro told me as he shuddered. It looked almost natural in his cat form, but I was more interested in his words than actions.
"What do you mean by that? Aren’t the high priests powerful? How can they keep on getting eaten? Who can even eat them?"
I asked, and Kuro let out a frustrated sigh.
"The high priests you see are the ones who got their powers and awakened. But not all high priests start out like that. They are chosen to be given our lord’s mark and incubate to gain the power."
Kuro paused before he continued.
"During this time, they are generally not disturbed so they can hatch... or even protected in cases. But the dungeon you are talking about is different. It is the only place where the high priest’s power and authority can be stolen by anyone."
The black cat looked at me with intense eyes.
"All they need to do is swallow the core and start the incubation anew. It takes almost six months for the core to incubate."
That information felt like it was too much. And yet, it all somehow made sense.
"I see. Does that mean even a human has the chance to grab the core and become a high priest?"
I asked, and Kuro just shrugged.
"Sure, they can. Not that it would help much. To become a high priest and be granted power is to surrender to our lord. At that point, they are humanity’s enemy either way, so you can stop thinking of them as human."
