The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 142: Ch : Here to Help- Part 2
"Shit... as much as I want to stay around, I need to head back now. My master is calling for me."
The sigil on the back of Edwin’s hand glowed a faint red and he cursed. He looked crushed at the fact that he needed to start heading back, but there was no other way for him to protect himself.
After all, there was not much difference between a sigil and a contract. And Edwin was forced to follow it if he wanted to keep on living.
"I understand. Head back for now and do what you are tasked to do. Just... survive until I am able to help you out."
I told Edwin, and he looked happy and thankful that I had not judged him for his choices... not that I was in any position to judge anyone after what I had done to survive myself.
"Alright, I will... head back. Thank you for coming to save us, and I promise neither I nor anyone else would hold it against you, even if you were to fail here and now."
The man told me, and I felt my heart warm at his words.
Despite being an alpha, Edwin was a good person. It was... he just did not have his scent or anything.
’So that was the feeling of something missing that I got. There is no alpha, beta, or omega in this place. But I can still smell my own pheromones.’
It likely had something to do with the fact that the others were stuck in this place with a contract and lost a sense of self.
Meanwhile, I still knew who I was and had control over myself.
Edwin left quickly after that, and I headed back inside. I had nearly forgotten about my female guide, but she stirred and grabbed my attention.
"H-Huh-! Where are we? Aren’t you the... newbie assigned to me? What are we doing out here? Were we out to do some task?"
The female asked with a slightly dazed look in her eyes. That told me that my technique had worked for her and she was no longer a threat to me and the people I knew... hopefully.
"We came out to throw something out. But you slipped and fell, causing you to fall unconscious. I was going in to get some help for you, but you woke up before that."
I lied to the female as I helped her up.
She looked suspicious as she got back to her feet. But when she tried to recall anything, all she felt was a flash of pain in the back of her skull.
So the female clutched her forehead and massaged it to get rid of the pain she was feeling.
"Is that... so? I slipped and injured myself? Somehow, that does not sound right, but I cannot think of any other reason why my head would hurt so much... anyway, I am fine now. There is no need for you to be worried about me now."
The female told me as she shoved my hand off her shoulder and straightened herself back up. She looked regal and imposing, almost as if she had never gotten hurt in the first place.
Her confidence was imposing, and I admired that about her.
But mere confidence could never make up for one’s lack of skills.
"Let’s head back inside. I am a little tired and would like to go to sleep."
I told the female, who silently followed me back inside. She had noticed that I had no sympathy for her, so she did not try and flirt with me to get more help.
She just looked around for another target she could find, but found no one around.
I reached my room and quickly closed the door behind me before anyone else could enter the room with me. Once that was done, I set up the barrier around it and waited for Kuro to show up.
It took no time for the cat-shaped demon to arrive, and he changed back into his normal shape the first chance he got.
"Ugh, this place is terrifying. The people here don’t feel like people, and they are constantly at each other’s throats. This truly is a dungeon where power rules all."
Kuro told me as he shuddered. But despite his complaints about it all, he seemed to not be hurt at all.
"You seem fine. Did you run into any trouble?"
I asked Kuro, and the demon gave me a look.
"Why would I be in trouble? What do you think can threaten someone like me? You might not know it, but I am close with our lord. He has personally bestowed me with my power. There is nothing anyone can do to cause me harm."
Kuro assured me, and I just nodded back at him. His confidence reassured me as well, but I was a little worried too.
I did trust Kuro when he told me that he was fine, but the demon also had moments when he overestimated himself.
"Anyway, this dungeon is a mess. From what I could find around, the next round to choose the champion of this dungeon will happen soon. And it will likely be the most powerful person in this dungeon currently. We will need to kill them to reset the timer and try and gain control of this dungeon."
Kuro told me, and that sounded similar to what Edwin had told me not too long ago. So far, it seemed that the conditions of this dungeon were not too awkward.
"Alright, so when is the next selection?"
I asked Kuro, and he frowned before he gave me a look.
"Well, according to my information, it should not be that long... in the next hour or so..."
Kuro told me, but the system was faster and it beeped.
[You have been registered in the matrix of the dungeon. You have become a viable target to be chosen as the ’King’ this round. The next selection of King will begin now....]
[Congratulations, you have been selected as the ’King’. Please protect your title for the next 10 days.]
