Chapter 143: Ch 143: Here to Help- Part 3

"Well, that certainly makes things easier for me."

I told Kuro as I looked down at the mark on the back of my hand. It was glowing, and it showed even if I tried to cover my hand.

It was the mark that branded me as the ’King’.

Kuro gave me a worried look before he sighed and seemed resigned to the fact that I was stuck in this role as the ’King’ and there was nothing I or anyone else could do about it.

"Seems like this dungeon has a bad sense of humor. So, what are we going to do now?"

Kuro asked me, and I gave him a serious look.

"What we need to do is simple. I just need to make sure I keep the title as the ’King’ for the next 10 days. It sounds easy enough, so I don’t think I should have much problem."

I told Kuro, and he just gave me a look of suffering.

"And how are you going to do that exactly? You can’t just hide away in your room. And I doubt you would be able to mask your glowing hand for long either. Don’t you think others would have already tried that long before you did?"

Kuro asked me, and all of those were valid questions and concerns for him to make. I was truly blessed to have such people who cared for me this much.

However, the answer behind why I was confident about my survival... even I did not know. I just knew that something about this dungeon wouldn’t allow me to fall in danger’s way.

"Anyway, get ready too. The next few days are likely going to be hectic, and even I cannot tell you what we will face next."

I told Kuro, and he sighed at me, almost like he was suffering at just the thought of being with me.

"Ugh, you are impossible to reason with, human. If not for my lord and his order... anyway, stay hidden for as long as you can. I will go around and try to get some allies for you."

Kuro told me before he forced me back to my room.

Hiding away like this was not my style, but I had a feeling that Kuro wouldn’t like it if I were to move around and cause trouble either.

So I chose to hide away to ease his mind.

The demon left me all alone, and that was when I chose to head out.

First, I needed to find out more about this dungeon and what the mark of the King meant and what it entitled. And to do that, I needed my hand to stop glowing.

The power of the mark felt familiar and alive. I pushed my hand up and looked at the glowing crown mark on my hand.

Something in me made me talk to my hand as I held it up.

"Hey, so can you stop... glowing for now? You are going to cause me too much trouble somehow."

As soon as I asked this, the glow on my hand faded away and only a tattoo remained on the back of my hand.

I looked at my hand and had a feeling that this was not supposed to happen. That tattoo was supposed to glow for the next 10 days to indicate that I had been chosen.

But it had fallen silent at my command.

This was not the first time a dungeon had complied with me, but it was just as confusing as to why that happened.

"Oh well, there is no point in thinking about looking a gifted horse in its mouth. I should take this as a sign of good luck and continue what I was doing."

I told myself as I went back to my work... or whatever I was doing. There was a slight knock at my door that made me open it.

And in front of me stood my patron, the person who told me that he would help me and also hooked me up with this job.

Kaname looked worried, but he showed none of it on his face as he gave me a scummy smile.

"Oh-! What do we have here? An employee that almost caused trouble on his first day. I heard from the person I put in charge of you that you almost hit a patron. You need to be more careful out here, my friend."

Kaname told me as he reached toward my shoulder to put a hand on it. But I stepped out of the way of his hand, causing it to awkwardly go back to his side.

"Thank you for your advice. But unfortunately, I cannot follow it at the moment. I am going to protect myself when and how I need to. Now, is there anything else I can help you with?"

I told the man, and he tried to smile. But no matter how much he pretended, he could not keep smiling for long. So in the end, he just gave me a look of suffering.

"My friend, it seems like you are not cut out to be in the service sector after all. I had a feeling after seeing you for the first time, but I still wanted to give you a chance. But now I can tell that my first gut instincts were right."

Kaname told me, hitting all dramatic poses as he spoke these words. He was just annoying me now at this point.

"So, what do you want?"

I simply asked Kaname, and he stopped his theatrics.

"Oh-! What I am saying is that you are fired. I cannot keep an employee that will cause me to rule around. I apologize for it as well. I told you that I would help you out, only to do that? You are free to think and curse me as you want."

The man looked at me and braced himself for any words I could throw at him. But luckily for him, I was also looking for ways to get out of my current job.

"Is that so? I guess things work out in that case. I also think I am not suited for your place. I would like to leave as well."
