The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife-Chapter 533 - 536. Fu Family’s little princess was born
Y Country, inside Allen’s private castle, Peter entered from outside, holding a package in his hand, and when he saw Allen, he threw the package at him, "Here, the little guy from the Fu family sent this for you."
Allen’s expressionless face finally showed a reaction, a touch of warmth appeared in his cold eyes as he caught the package, but he didn’t rush to open it.
The handwriting on the express slip was delicate, obviously from a woman. As Allen looked at this familiar handwriting, a softer light grew in his eyes, and he gently touched the name with his fingertips.
Peter turned back and came over, handing him a pair of scissors, "Here."
However, Allen didn’t take them and kept his head down. Without looking, Peter knew what he was thinking about. He pursed his lips—it was just an express slip written by Shen Qinglan, nothing worth fussing over.
He placed the scissors on the coffee table and sat on the other side, casually picking up a medical book from the table.
After a long time, Allen finally picked up the scissors, carefully cut out the slip, kept it, and then opened the package. Peter rolled his eyes from the side; Allen was poisoned with something called Shen Qinglan, deep in his marrow, incurable.
At the top of the package was a pack of milk candies, beneath which were several childish drawings that obviously Anan had done. Allen flipped through them one by one, a faint smile hanging on his lips.
Peter couldn’t stand it anymore and scoffed, "Allen, what’s the use of pining over things that remind you of her? If you miss her so much, why not just take her away?"
This wasn’t the first or last time Peter would say something like this, and Allen didn’t even spare him a glance.
Peter was annoyed. He, a living person standing right in front of him, apparently wasn’t as attractive as a few drawings.
"Allen, you are truly the dumbest man I’ve ever seen, watching the woman you love marry another man, bear his children. You don’t take her for yourself, yet you treasure her child like a gem; I really don’t understand how you think."
Allen loved Anan to the extreme, pampering her so much that even an outsider like him felt jealous. He even suspected that Allen had transferred all his love for Shen Qinglan to Anan.
Finally, Allen raised his head from Anan’s drawings and gave Peter a look, but his eyes were extremely cold. Under the intense pressure of Allen’s gaze, Peter made a zip-the-lip gesture. Okay, he surrendered; this man had a line called Shen Qinglan, touch it and it explodes. For his own safety, he’d better speak less.
Allen looked away, a trace of melancholy flickering in the depths of his eyes. How could Peter, who had never loved, understand his cautious feelings for Shen Qinglan?
Peter, who couldn’t sit still, spoke again after a while, "Hey, since you miss her so much, let’s go to Beijing. We haven’t been there in a long time, and it’s a good opportunity to see that little guy from the Fu family. Oh, right, I heard Shen Qinglan is about to give birth soon, and she’s having twins this time. I guess the risk isn’t less than the last time."
Hearing this, Allen finally put Anan’s drawings aside and looked at him seriously, "In that case, you should go there in the next few days."
Peter raised an eyebrow, "Aren’t you coming with me?" It was a perfect opportunity to see Shen Qinglan, and with a legitimate reason, even Fu Hengyi couldn’t refuse it.
Allen shook his head. He wouldn’t go. Seeing Shen Qinglan only deepened his obsession with her each time, and he truly feared that if he saw her again, he wouldn’t be able to suppress his desire to claim her forcibly.
Peter rested his feet on the coffee table, hands clasped behind his head, leaning back on the sofa, "If you’re not going, then I’m not going either. Isn’t Eden there? Eden’s medical skills are no less than mine. With him there, Shen Qinglan’s childbirth will definitely be fine."
He had brought up going to Beijing to create an opportunity for Allen to meet Shen Qinglan, but since Allen was not going, what was the point of him going alone? What did he care about Shen Qinglan’s safety?
"You leave tomorrow," Allen said coldly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Peter stared, "Why should I go alone if you’re not going? I’m not going." He was a general practitioner, yes, but obstetrics wasn’t his specialty.
"If you don’t go, then get out of here," Allen said emotionlessly, his gaze indifferent as he looked at Peter.
A chill rose in Peter’s heart. He knew Allen was serious. But should he be grateful that this time Allen only asked him to leave and didn’t pull a gun on him like before?
He irritably scratched his hair and said, "Fine, I’ll go. I’m buying the ticket now." He rose from the sofa and left without looking back. His departure seemed less like a trip to buy tickets and more like a venting of anger.
Uncle Allen continued to look down, picking up Anan’s drawing. Each drawing had text on it, written crookedly, requiring careful discernment and guessing to understand what was written, with some even in pinyin.
Yet Uncle Allen found it thoroughly enjoyable. This child did not inherit her mother’s talent for drawing, but one could say her drawings were passable.
The phone rang, and Uncle Allen immediately put down the drawing, aiming to grab his phone. This was Anan’s call; he had set a personalized ringtone for Anan’s number so he could instantly tell it was her calling.
But the phone was a bit too far from him, out of reach, and Peter was not by his side. He frowned, pushed his wheelchair toward the phone, but it got stuck on the leg of the coffee table. Due to inertia, he fell straight to the floor. Although his legs could not stand, they were not entirely numb, and the fall was not light. He grimaced in pain but ignored his pain, propping himself up on the floor and crawling a few steps. He pressed answer a second before the call ended, "Anan," his voice hoarse yet gentle.
"Uncle Allen, did you receive what I sent you?" Anan’s cheerful voice came through as soon as the call connected. Ever since she had mailed the item, she had been constantly asking Shen Qinglan when it would arrive. That she held back from calling until today was a miracle in itself.
Uncle Allen managed to sit upright, leaning against the sofa, "I received it, just got it today, and uncle really likes it," his tone was gentle.
Hearing this, Anan laughed out loud, her joy palpable even over the phone, "I’m glad you like it, Uncle Allen. I’ll send you more next time. Uncle Allen, let me tell you, my mom is going to have my little sister soon, do you want to see my sister?"
Upon hearing this, Uncle Allen’s smile gradually faded, but the words he uttered were tender, "Sure, uncle will buy a plane ticket in a couple of days to come see you... and your parents."
"That’s settled then, Uncle Allen. I’ll be waiting," Anan said.
"Okay."
When Peter finished booking his flight ticket, he saw Uncle Allen on the floor talking on the phone, frowning. He knew without asking that Allen was talking to Anan.
Shen Qinglan and her son were Uncle Allen’s undoing—inescapable, irresolvable.
After Uncle Allen hung up, Peter helped him up and said in resignation, "Can’t you take better care of yourself? After all the effort I put into saving you, even if you don’t want to cherish yourself, you could at least respect my hard work."
Still, Allen was unconcerned and asked, "Have you booked your ticket?"
Peter, irritable, replied, "Yes, yes, I’ve booked everything, even the hotel. Are you satisfied now?" It wasn’t like his wife was having a baby—what was the rush?
"Book one for me too."
Peter was stunned, "I thought you said you weren’t going?"
Before he could finish, he received a cold glare from Allen. Peter, recalling the recent phone call, instantly understood, "Alright, I’ll book it for you now." Turning, he walked back to his room.
***********
Today was Valentine’s Day. Fu Hengyi got up early, as in previous years, he would have been at the army base, but being at home today, he naturally wanted to surprise his wife.
As soon as Shen Qinglan opened her eyes, she sensed something was amiss. A faint scent of roses lingered at her nose; she looked around and indeed saw roses on the windowsill, placed in a vase, slowly spreading a mixed fragrance of perfume and lilies around the room. She got up, walked to the window, and saw a small card placed among the flowers, reading "Wife, I love you." The handwriting was bold and strong.
Her lips lightly curved, tenderness swirling in her eyes. She bent down and sniffed; hmm, the scent was too strong up close.
When Shen Qinglan came downstairs, Fu Hengyi had already prepared breakfast. Whenever he was home, he made breakfast for Shen Qinglan himself. He was about to go upstairs to wake her when he saw her descending the stairs and quickly stepped forward, "Didn’t I tell you not to come downstairs alone?"
Shen Qinglan was nine months pregnant, her belly so large that her toes were out of sight. Fu Hengyi couldn’t bear to think of the consequences if she had misstepped.
Shen Qinglan smiled softly, her eyes gentle, "I was holding onto the rail." She was intimately familiar with every part of their home, even if she closed her eyes, she wouldn’t miss a step.
"That’s not okay, it’s not about worrying over every little thing but being scared of the worst-case scenario." Fu Hengyi’s face darkened slightly, his concern growing as the due date approached. Any little thing would have him worried for half the day.
Knowing he cared about her, Shen Qinglan didn’t argue, but instead said, "I’m hungry," successfully changing the subject.
"Breakfast is ready, let’s eat first." Fu Hengyi helped her sit down. Anan sat at the dining table, eating breakfast. When he saw Shen Qinglan, he greeted her with a beaming smile, "Good morning, Mom."
Shen Qinglan smiled slightly and touched his little head, "Good morning."
The breakfast in front of Shen Qinglan was as exquisite as Anan’s, including heart-shaped eggs, and even the bread was heart-shaped, paired together with a little tomato sauce drizzled on top. It was clearly prepared with great care by someone.
Anan, though longing to eat his mother’s breakfast, knew that she was carrying his siblings and needed more nutrition due to the hardship.
Seeing Anan eyeing her plate, Shen Qinglan smiled and asked, "Want to switch with Mom?"
Anan shook his head, finishing the egg in his hand, "Mom, I’m full already."
Anan’s breakfast was always proportioned, ensuring he got enough nutrients without overeating and gaining too much weight.
Knowing he had eaten enough, Shen Qinglan quietly continued with her breakfast.
"After breakfast, I’ll take you somewhere," Fu Hengyi said softly.
Knowing he must have a special plan for today, Shen Qinglan didn’t ask where he was taking her but simply smiled and nodded. Hearing this, Anan looked up at him, "Daddy, I want to go too."
"You have school today." Fu Hengyi reminded his son of this harsh reality.
Anan pouted, "Bad Daddy, always leaving me behind to go out with Mom." He still remembered the last time when Fu Hengyi took Shen Qinglan to Jiangnan during his summer camp.
Anan’s voice wasn’t low, and Fu Hengyi heard it clearly but just glanced at his son, pretending not to hear. This was supposed to be a world for just him and his wife; how could they bring along a lightbulb, especially one as bright as Anan?
"Where’s Grandpa?" Shen Qinglan didn’t see Old Sir Fu and asked.
"I know, I know, Grandpa went to see Great Grandpa," Anan eagerly said, then looked at Shen Qinglan with a "praise me" expression. Shen Qinglan laughed; the little guy was getting better at making his presence felt.
Old Sir Fu was getting up earlier as he aged, needing less sleep. As for Shen Qinglan, due to her pregnancy, she slept more. Usually, by the time Shen Qinglan got up, Old Sir Fu had finished breakfast. He either read the newspaper at home, practiced boxing in the yard, or went to the Shen family’s home to play chess and chat with Old Sir Shen, enjoying his days.
Especially after finding out that Shen Qinglan was carrying twins, Old Sir Fu was especially joyful, feeling better and healthier.
Knowing that the old man had gone to see her grandfather, Shen Qinglan was not worried at all.
After finishing the meal, Fu Hengyi was planning to take his son to school and then pick up Shen Qinglan, but just as he reached the door, his phone rang. It was a call from Han Yi, saying that Yu Xiaoxuan had gone into labor that morning.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s pregnancy had come to term, and she had already been admitted to the hospital a couple of days ago.
When Shen Qinglan saw Fu Hengyi end the call and look at her, puzzled, she asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Yu Xiaoxuan is about to give birth."
Upon hearing this, Shen Qinglan immediately stood up, "I need to go to the hospital."
Knowing he couldn’t stop her, Fu Hengyi went with her to the hospital, and Anan came along as well.
Han Yi stood by the delivery room door the moment he arrived at the hospital, pacing back and forth anxiously. Upon seeing Fu Hengyi, he was relieved, "little sister-in-law, Hengyi, it’s so good you’re here," he sighed with relief.
Shen Qinglan didn’t bother with pleasantries, going straight to the point, "How long has Xiao Xuan been in there?"
"It’s been over an hour now, and she still hasn’t given birth," Han Yi was anxious. The last time Yu Xiaoxuan had given birth, he had been abroad and couldn’t make it back. This time he wanted to accompany her, but she refused to let him in, and he could only wait outside the door, hearing the screams of pain from inside without being able to see what was happening. He was very anxious and didn’t know how to vent his feelings, so he could only call Fu Hengyi.
More than an hour is not a very long time for childbirth.
"What did the doctor say?" asked Shen Qinglan.
"The doctor said everything is normal, but if everything’s normal, why hasn’t she given birth after an hour?" Han Yi couldn’t understand.
"It won’t be so quick, just be patient," Qinglan wasn’t worried anymore; since the doctor said it was fine, it must be fine.
Anan held her father’s hand and had been silent all along until now, when she quietly asked, "Mom, is godmother going to give birth?"
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Yes, your godmother is about to have a little brother."
"Oh," Anan felt indifferent.
"Where is Guoguo?" Shen Qinglan didn’t see Guoguo.
"I left her at home; the nanny is taking care of her," Han Yi said casually. These days, Guoguo had mostly been taken care of by the nanny. Han Yi only went to see his daughter in the evening and spent most of his time at the hospital, sometimes even bringing Guoguo to the hospital.
"Qinglan, you sit down," Fu Hengyi worried that Shen Qinglan would get tired from standing for too long, said to Shen Qing.
Shen Qinglan indeed couldn’t stand for too long now, so she sat down patiently, with Anan sitting by her side, leaning gently against her, "Mom, did you hurt as much when you gave birth to me?" He was somewhat panicking as he listened to Yu Xiaoxuan’s screams.
Shen Qinglan stroked her son’s head, "You were good, mommy didn’t hurt that much."
"Oh, so it’s because the little brother is naughty that he’s making godmom hurt so much," Anan concluded.
Shen Qinglan shook her head with a chuckle; her son’s logic was undeniable. Suddenly, her expression changed, clutching at her stomach. The baby inside had just kicked her hard.
After the pain subsided, Shen Qinglan didn’t dwell on it, but soon she realized something was wrong; the pain in her stomach was getting worse, a familiar pain she had experienced when giving birth to Anan.
"Fu Hengyi," she called out. Fu Hengyi, who was chatting with Han Yi, immediately turned to her, "What’s wrong, Qinglan?"
Shen Qinglan held her stomach, speaking calmly, "It seems I’m going to give birth."
Her words were calm, but to others, they were like a thunderbolt from the blue. Fu Hengyi’s face changed instantly.
"Quick, go call the doctor," Shen Qinglan said. Upon hearing her words, Fu Hengyi instinctively sprinted off. Han Yi followed behind him.
Just then, Yu Xiaoxuan yelled out, "Han Yi, you bastard."
Shen Qinglan smiled bitterly; she was here to accompany Yu Xiaoxuan for her delivery, yet the baby in her belly couldn’t wait to come out and meet its mother.
Anan clung tightly to Shen Qinglan’s arm, "Mom, are you going to give birth too?"
Seeing her son’s scared expression, Shen Qinglan smiled, "Yes, Anan, you’re about to meet your little brother or sister soon. Are you excited?"
Anan was supposed to be happy, but after hearing Yu Xiaoxuan’s cries of pain, he just couldn’t feel happy. Every time he thought about his mom experiencing such pain, he couldn’t help but feel afraid.
"Can’t Mommy not give birth?"
Shen Qinglan laughed lightly, was it really her choice to give birth or not?
"Anan, Mommy will be fine."
It was fortunate that they were in a maternity hospital where everything was ready. The doctor who had delivered Shen Qinglan last time happened to be there and after a brief examination of Shen Qinglan, he said to Fu Hengyi, "Mr. Fu, Mrs. Fu is about to give birth. We must go to the labor room immediately."
Fu Hengyi nodded, "Okay, I want to accompany her."
However, Shen Qinglan refused his request. Leaving Anan outside with Han Yi, who was completely at a loss, would probably scare Anan to death. She regretted bringing Anan out that morning. But now, it was too late for regrets.
Fu Hengyi dared not defy Shen Qinglan’s words at this moment and could only wait outside with his son.
Shen Qinglan was quickly wheeled into the labor room. Anan clutched tightly at his daddy’s trouser leg, his little face turning pale, "Daddy, I’m scared."
Fu Hengyi’s eyes darkened, sweat formed in the palm of his hand hanging by his leg. Hearing his son, he lifted him up and gently patted his back, "It’s okay, Daddy is here."
Anan hugged Fu Hengyi’s neck and rested his head on his shoulder, "Daddy, will Mommy be in pain?"
Fu Hengyi was as scared as Anan, especially knowing Shen Qinglan had a difficult delivery before and now it was a premature birth. But being a man, a father, he had to hide whatever emotions he was feeling.
He softened his voice to comfort his son, "Don’t worry, Mommy will be out soon."
At that moment, Anan’s watch phone rang. It was Uncle Allen calling. He and Peter had just landed and were on their way to the hotel.
"Uncle Allen, my mommy is giving birth, and she is in a lot of pain," Anan spoke first, his voice quivering with tears.
Hearing this, Allen’s expression changed, "Which hospital are you at now?"
Anan didn’t know the name of the hospital and looked helplessly at his father. Fu Hengyi raised his hand and reported the hospital’s name to the phone. If Allen was coming, then Peter would definitely be with him. With Peter there, they could handle it if anything happened to Shen Qinglan.
Shen Qinglan was in the labor room next to Yu Xiaoxuan. Unlike Yu Xiaoxuan’s agonizing screams, Shen Qinglan’s labor room was quiet, with no sound at all.
Shen Qinglan was not pain-free; she just knew her son was outside. If she cried out like Yu Xiaoxuan, Anan would definitely be frightened. For her son, she had to endure.
"Mrs. Fu, if you feel pain, just shout out, don’t hold it in," the doctor advised seeing Shen Qinglan biting her lips white. It was normal for any woman in labor to cry out in agony,
Shen Qinglan shook her head, "I’m fine, continue." She coordinated with the doctor’s rhythm, adjusting her breathing. Having had the experience once made this time less troublesome than the last.
Fu Hengyi stood outside the labor room door, intensely staring at it, his hold on Anan’s hand tightening. Anan felt uncomfortable and frowned, "Daddy, it hurts."
Fu Hengyi came to his senses and relaxed his grip, "Sorry."
Anan, still embracing his father’s neck, whispered, "Daddy, Mommy will be okay, right?"
Fu Hengyi hummed affirmatively, "Everything will go smoothly." He had expected another long, agonizing process, but surprisingly, an hour later, cries of two babies emanated from Shen Qinglan’s labor room, one after the other, just minutes apart. He blinked in slight shock.
The doors of the labor room opened, and two nurses came out holding two babies, "Congratulations, Mr. Fu, Mrs. Fu has given birth to twins, a boy and a girl. Mother and children are all safe."
Fu Hengyi couldn’t go see the child yet, and instead asked, "How is my wife?"
The doctor, with a smile on his face, said, "Mrs. Fu is fine, she will be out soon."
Upon hearing this, Fu Hengyi let out a long sigh of relief, thankfully, there were no complications this time.
Just then, a loud cry echoed from Yu Xiaoxuan’s delivery room—the baby was finally born.
Anxiously unable to sit still, Han Yi burst into tears upon hearing the cry.
Anan stood on tiptoe, eagerly looking at the baby in the nurse’s arms. The nurse, noticing his interest, bent down slightly to give him a peek, "This is your little sister, this is your little brother. Your sister is older."
The two babies looked alike, and Anan couldn’t tell who was who. He just glanced, satisfied, then withdrew his gaze; his mother hadn’t come out yet.
Fu Hengyi and Anan, one grown and one small, stood at the entrance of the delivery room, welcoming Shen Qinglan.
When Shen Qinglan was wheeled out of the delivery room, she was still very conscious, but having just given birth, she hadn’t been cleaned yet, and her hair was soaked with sweat.
Fu Hengyi looked at her with pity, especially her cracked lips, and wiped the sweat from her forehead, "Wife, you worked hard!"
Shen Qinglan smiled wearily but warmly. She didn’t have the strength to speak and merely tugged at the corner of her mouth towards Fu Hengyi before closing her eyes and falling asleep.
Fu Hengyi’s expression changed, but the doctor said with a smile, "It’s okay, the mother is just tired and fell asleep." Hearing this, Fu Hengyi finally felt relieved.
Yu Xiaoxuan was also wheeled out soon after; compared to Shen Qinglan, she looked much more disheveled. She had fainted after giving birth.
The two were arranged in adjacent sickrooms, and it was then that Fu Hengyi called his family.
When Allen and Peter arrived at the hospital, Shen Qinglan had just been pushed into the sickroom. Anan saw Allen, his eyes brightened, and he smiled, "Uncle Allen."
Allen, sitting in a wheelchair, looked at Anan with a gentle gaze, "Where’s your mom?"
"Mommy has already given birth to my little brother and sister, she’s sleeping now."
Led by Anan, Peter pushed Allen into the sickroom. Allen looked at the woman lying on the bed, his eyes soft as water. He reached out, wanting to hold her hand. His hand hung midair, hesitating for a moment, then he settled, simply gently adjusting the corner of her blanket instead.
Peter rolled his eyes, thinking just hold it already, why be so timid, but right now he dared not speak up, lest this man flare up and he’d be the one to suffer.
Fu Hengyi had gone to handle the hospital stay procedures, and took the chance to greet the family downstairs.
Allen didn’t stay in the sickroom long and planned to leave soon; he didn’t want to meet with Shen family and Fu family members.
"Uncle Allen, are you leaving?" Anan asked reluctantly.
Allen patted his head, "Yes, but I’ll be in Beijing for a few days, I’ll come see you some other day."
"But you haven’t seen my little brother and sister yet."
Allen was slightly startled, he had been so preoccupied with Shen Qinglan that he had completely forgotten about the children, "Then would you like to accompany uncle to see them?"
Anan nodded, and Peter, very observant, stepped forward to push the wheelchair.
In the hospital’s nursery, Allen looked through the glass window at the people inside, with Anan sitting on his lap. Pointing at the two closest children, he said, "Uncle Allen, those are my brother and sister. Aren’t they cute?"
The two children, one slightly larger than the other, were both wrinkled and hardly could be considered good-looking, but Allen nodded anyway. "Yes, very beautiful."
Anan then pointed at another child nearby, "That’s my godmother’s son, born alongside my brother and sister."
Allen’s gaze glided over to that child, then quickly returned to the Fu family twins, his eyes warm and gentle.
Allen had Peter take Anan back to Shen Qinglan’s hospital room, and they soon left the hospital. While sitting in the car, they just saw Fu Hengyi arriving at the hospital room with the two elderly men.
The Fu family twins were born smoothly, to the great delight of the two Old Sirs. After visiting Shen Qinglan and learning she was still asleep, they did not enter but headed to the nursery instead.
Although the Fu family siblings were premature, they were healthy and were soundly asleep at this moment. The two Old Sirs were incredibly fond of them—the twins were the first in five generations in both the Shen and Fu families.
"Have you picked nicknames yet?" Old Sir Fu asked his grandson, and Fu Hengyi responded with a smile, "The girl is called Tangtang."
"And the boy?" seeing that Fu Hengyi had nothing more to add, Old Sir Fu prompted.
Fu Hengyi pursed his lips, honestly admitting, "I hadn’t thought about it."
Old Sir Fu: ...
Old Sir Shen: ...
Never seen such a dad who favored girls over boys.
"How about we call him Baobao?" Fu Hengyi suggested casually.
Old Sir Fu: ...
Old Sir Shen: ...
Could you be any more casual?
In the end, it was Old Sir Shen who decided the nickname would be Chenchen.
When Shen Qinglan woke up, only Fu Hengyi was in the room. But there were fresh flowers and various snacks placed around.
Seeing her awake, Fu Hengyi took the initiative to speak, "Grandpa and Mom went to see the baby. They’ll be back soon. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere now?"
Shen Qinglan shook her head. "I feel quite good now." This labor had been unexpectedly smooth, even Shen Qinglan herself was surprised. Compared to Anan’s tumultuous arrival, these two children brought a relatively hassle-free pregnancy and delivery.
"How is Xiaoxuan doing?" Shen Qinglan also remembered Yu Xiaoxuan, who had given birth before her.
"She has given birth to a son, in the room next to yours, both mother and son are safe." Although Yu Xiaoxuan was taken to the delivery room before her, the process was not as smooth as Shen Qinglan’s, putting Yu Xiaoxuan through an immense ordeal before finally giving birth.
Knowing that Yu Xiaoxuan and her child were safe, Shen Qinglan was relieved. With Han Yi there, he would undoubtedly take good care of her. Shen Qinglan had just given birth and, although she had rested a bit, was still very tired, so after a brief conversation with Fu Hengyi, she fell asleep again.
Fu Hengyi held her hand, staying in the hospital room, never leaving her side.
The next day, when Allen came to visit Shen Qinglan in the hospital, Fu Hengyi was there in the room. He was not at all surprised by Allen’s arrival.
Shen Qinglan raised her eyebrows and glanced at Fu Hengyi, "Did you notify them?"
Fu Hengyi slightly shook his head, "It wasn’t me."
Allen’s gaze lingered on Shen Qinglan’s face, unable to look away for a long while, "How is your health now?"
Shen Qinglan nodded slightly, "I’m fine now." She felt slightly uncomfortable under Allen’s gaze and modestly lowered her eyes.
Seeing this, Fu Hengyi stepped forward and positioned himself between Shen Qinglan and Allen, "Thank you for coming to see my wife."
Allen’s gaze was deep and he didn’t respond to Fu Hengyi’s remark. His dislike for Fu Hengyi hadn’t lessened at all, "Let Peter take a look."
Peter stepped forward and smiled slightly at Fu Hengyi, "I’ll check on the expectant mother’s health, if you don’t mind?"
Fu Hengyi stepped aside. Peter was a doctor, and a very competent one at that. Having him examine Shen Qinglan would give him peace of mind.
Shen Qinglan was indeed in good health, and Allen finally felt relieved after getting a confirmation from Peter.
A nurse came in carrying two children, "Mrs. Fu, it’s time to feed the babies."
Hearing this, Fu Hengyi looked at Allen, signaling it was time for him to leave. However, Allen didn’t leave but instead spoke up, "May I hold the baby?" Hope was evident in his eyes.
"You may," Shen Qingran replied quickly.
Fu Hengyi took the baby boy from the nurse’s arms and handed him to Allen. Allen was slightly reluctant; he wanted to hold Shen Qinglan’s daughter. Although that’s what he thought, his actions were gentle. He softly lowered his gaze, the child in his arms had his eyes closed, skin still delicate. Perhaps due to being twins, he seemed somewhat frail; Allen instinctively softened his touch, worried about hurting him inadvertently.
"Could I be the child’s godfather?" Allen looked at the child several times, eventually unable to hold back his request. He wanted to establish more ties with Shen Qinglan, even if just a little.
Hearing this, Peter sighed deeply in his heart; this man would probably never let go of Shen Qinglan in this lifetime.
The room fell into an eerie silence. The light in Allen’s eyes gradually died down, and just when he was about to give up, Fu Hengyi spoke up, "You can."
Allen turned to look at him, somewhat surprised. He had thought Fu Hengyi would be the last person to agree, especially since he had once intended to kill him.
***********
In an apartment abroad, Su Qing and Eden sat facing each other, with Su Qing idly playing with a dagger in her hands.
"Shen Qinglan should be giving birth soon, right?" Su Qing initiated.
Eden nodded, "Judging by the dates, it should be any time now."
At this moment, neither of them knew that Shen Qinglan had already given birth.
Eden had not contacted Shen Qinglan for a long time. He had planned to visit her in Beijing after returning from the jungle, but just as he and Su Qing left the jungle, they encountered an assassination attempt. These people were targeting Su Qing. Eden couldn’t bear to abandon Su Qing alone to flee; they had to escape together. From the jungle to here, their pursuers seemed relentless, as if they wouldn’t stop until Su Qing was dead.
Thus, the plan Eden had to visit Shen Qinglan in Beijing had to be abandoned. Bringing those people to Beijing would undoubtedly endanger Shen Qinglan.
"Su Qing, who exactly have you offended?" Eden had asked her more than once.
Su Qing remained tight-lipped. The more Eden knew, the more dangerous it would be for him, "Eden, you should leave. They are after me. You’ll be safe once you’re gone. And please, visit Qinglan for me. When her child is born, remember to take a photo for me."
