Chapter 534: 537. Aren’t you afraid that I’ll fall in love with you?

Eden’s gaze dimmed as he stared steadily at Su Qing, "I thought we were at least friends."

Hearing this, Su Qing was slightly taken aback, "We are friends." It was precisely because they were friends that Su Qing couldn’t tell him, "Eden, knowing too much will only make it impossible for you to remain an outsider. This mess isn’t something you need to wade into." They shared similar experiences, which is why Su Qing knew how precious their freedom was to them.

Su Qing spoke with deep concern, but Eden’s face remained expressionless, "Do you think I still have a chance to stay out of it now?" They had been pursued relentlessly by those people, who probably already had a clear understanding of his background. In the eyes of those pursuers, he was in league with Su Qing, and the idea of cutting ties was utterly impossible.

"Su Qing, you know they won’t let it go easily. They have a complete grasp on me, while I know nothing about them, which only puts me in greater danger," Eden said.

Su Qing looked hesitant. The organization she belonged to was not like Allen’s – while Allen’s seemed inhumane, at least due to Shen Qinglan there was a modicum of boundaries. However, that bunch, especially that man, were the true embodiment of the devil.

Being targeted by a devil made escaping nearly impossible. The more Eden knew, the more relentlessly that man would pursue him. Eventually, Eden would face a dead end, devoid of even the opportunity to serve as a subordinate to that man.

But just as Eden had said, they were already being watched. The relationship between Eden and her couldn’t be disentangled, and in truth, the man was unlikely to spare Eden. Su Qing suddenly regretted ever getting involved with Eden.

"Eden, I am truly sorry for dragging you into this trouble," Su Qing said earnestly, full of remorse.

"Now is not the time for apologies, Su Qing. I need to know their secrets," Eden’s face was stern.

Su Qing hesitated for a long time before finally speaking, revealing the details of those people in depth. Upon hearing this, Eden’s expression turned grave. This group was even more dangerous than Allen. In fact, during his time at the Devil Base, he had heard of this organization, but since they always kept a low profile and never had any interaction with him, he naturally didn’t take them seriously, nor did he go out of his way to inquire about them.

"So you were initially saved by the leader of this organization?" Eden asked. Although Shen Qinglan had never mentioned it, Eden had guessed Su Qing’s identity, with the best proof being the scar on her chest.

Su Qing remained silent, effectively confirming Eden’s words.

"Su Qing, have you ever thought about destroying it?"

Su Qing gave a bitter smile, "Eden, it’s impossible." If she could have destroyed the organization, she would have done so long ago.

"Do you really think that just the few of you could have taken down Devil Base if Allen hadn’t intentionally let things slide? The Devil Base wasn’t established by Allen, but rather by his family, surviving numerous generations over a span of a hundred years. Many have sought to take down the Devil Base during this time, yet it still stands tall, showcasing its strength. If it hadn’t been for Allen’s deliberate sabotage, Shen Qinglan and the others would have had no chance of succeeding."

The things that Eden couldn’t understand at first, he had come to realize over the years. Indeed, just as Su Qing said, their escape from the Devil Base was purely because Allen deliberately let Shen Qinglan go, and Shen Qinglan in turn cared for their lives – otherwise, their fate would have been obvious.

Eden frowned, "But this endless pursuit will only lead to both of our deaths. Even if they don’t kill you and take you back to the base, do you think that man will let bygones be bygones?"

Su Qing of course knew what she would face if she were taken back to the base.

"Eden, listen to me, go. I believe with your ability, as long as we separate, you will definitely be able to get away." Su Qing said. Although those people would also go after Eden, she was their main target. Once he left her, Eden’s risk factor would significantly decrease, and it wouldn’t be difficult for him to escape. This was the best plan Su Qing could think of at the moment.

"And what about you?" Eden asked her.

A look of resignation surfaced on Su Qing’s face, "This is probably my fate."Destined to be without freedom in this life.

"So, you’re resigning yourself to fate? The Qin Mu I know from Qinglan’s stories doesn’t have that kind of personality."

Su Qing stared intently, "Eden, I’m Su Qing, not Qin Mu."

Eden shrugged, "Alright then, Su Qing. Since the two of us can’t make it, let’s spend money. There are always brave men willing to do dangerous work if the reward is high enough. I don’t believe no one can deal with them," he wasn’t short on money.

"Eden, you’re too naive. They are an organization that mainly traffics in information, with ties to various power structures around the world. Before we can gather enough people to confront them, they’ll get wind of it and then the people coming after us will likely be ten times as many as now." If this method were viable, Su Qing would have done it already, there was no need to be hounded so miserably.

Eden fell silent.

It seemed that the only options before them were to suffer in silence and continue being hunted. Oh no, there was another option—their death. With their death, everything would also end.

"So you should go. I’ll leave this place tomorrow, and we’ll never meet again." Su Qing seemed to have made up her mind, and not waiting for Eden’s response, she turned and closed the door.

She leaned against the door and stared vacantly at the ceiling, her gaze empty. Actually, she had also grown tired of such days, the endless pursuit, the never-ending assignments. That man was like a cat toying with a mouse, teasing her over and over again.

Su Qing knew that man wanted her to understand that she could never escape his grasp; she could only live longer by obeying and letting herself be manipulated. But, after all, Su Qing wasn’t a puppet. How could she be content?

Better to fight to the death than live like this; at worst, they would go down together. Su Qing’s eyes gradually became determined.

The next morning, when Su Qing walked out of her room, she found Eden standing at her door, about to knock. Su Qing raised an eyebrow slightly, "What’s up?"

Eden nodded, "Yes. I thought it over all of last night and have made up my mind. You’re Qinglan’s friend? If you die, Qinglan will surely be heartbroken, and I can’t bear to see her upset. So, wherever you go, I’ll follow."

"Eden, this shouldn’t be your choice to make."

"Then what should my choice be?" Eden asked softly, "Su Qing, I’m not afraid to die. There’s nothing in this world I’m attached to, living or dying, there’s no essential difference."

"What about Qinglan?" Su Qing countered. Eden loved Shen Qinglan; Su Qing had known this for a long time, but the man had buried this affection deep within his heart.

Hearing this, Eden chuckled lightly and didn’t deny his love for Shen Qinglan, "She has a loving husband and a lovely son by her side now; she’s happy."

"If you’re doing this for Shen Qinglan, then there’s no need. Eden, I thank you for considering me a friend and for saving me multiple times, but this is my path. I don’t need anyone to walk it with me." Su Qing’s eyes diminished in intensity, and her expression became indifferent.

"It’s not just for Qinglan; consider it also repaying the debt I owe you for saving my life. You have saved me more than once," Eden stated.

"You’ve saved me too, we’ve long been settled. Eden, you’re a smart man; just go." Su Qing’s expression had become detached, all emotion retracted in an instant.

Eden looked at her firmly, "Do you really want me to go that much?"

Su Qing nodded, "Yes. Honestly, when we’re together, you’re actually the one holding me back. You’re not as skilled as I am, and at critical moments, I have to save you. If this continues, we will definitely die. But if I’m alone, then I might have a chance to avoid them. At the very least, they can’t do anything to me in the short term."

Eden’s gaze was deep, "Su Qing, you’ve successfully persuaded me. Fine, I’ll leave now."

Upon hearing this, Su Qing felt a sigh of relief, but at the same time, there was an indescribable sourness in her heart.

In the past, she’d had partners with whom she’d fought side by side, completing mission after mission together, but those people were different from Eden; they could only be called partners, not friends. Their life-and-death experiences were often for the sake of their missions.

But with Eden, it was different. Over the past few months, they had always been together, encountering many dangers in the jungle, comforting each other, and even saving each other’s lives. After coming out of the jungle, Eden had continued to help her. This was real friendship, even though Eden’s initial purpose had been for Shen Qinglan.

Eden turned and went back to his room, soon emerging with a backpack, "Su Qing, I’m leaving. You... take care."

Su Qing nodded, watching Eden leave but when he reached the doorway, she called out to him, "Eden, I’ll report to you regularly. If one day you stop receiving my messages, it will mean I am already dead. Should that happen, please don’t tell Qinglan anything about me. If she asks, just say I’m traveling the world, and have found a reliable man to marry and am living happily."

Eden’s eyes were deep, his face expressionless, "I will. This place is no longer safe. Those people could find it at any time. You should leave soon too." With that, he left without any hesitation.

In the room, Su Qing stood alone for a while before she began to pack her things and left.

Wandering the streets without a destination, Su Qing watched the people passing by. Their eyes reflected calm, sorrow, joy—all kinds of emotions— but not confusion, for they all had places to go and knew where their roots lay. But what about her? In this vast world, she couldn’t even find a place to stay.

She thought of Yan Anbang, her father, and Ya Xi, her sister. Once, she had envied and been jealous of Ya Xi’s carefree life; she was the beloved princess of the Yan Family, cherished in the palm of their hands. Yet she, Su Qing, was delivered into hell by her own birth mother.

Latterly, as a consequence of Qin Yan’s madness, Ya Xi had become the most innocent victim, and Su Qing started to feel sympathy and heartache for her sister. She thought that perhaps the daughters of the Yan Family were cursed, leading to their misfortunes—both her own and Ya Xi’s.

At this thought, Su Qing suddenly desired to see Ya Xi and Yan Anbang. She had never interacted with them as Su Qing except for that one time she saved Ya Xi, and then Yan Anbang’s attention had been wholly on Ya Xi, having not noticed her.

A day later, Qin Yan appeared at Xueli City Airport, disguised and even with a changed identity. To those who were not familiar, she would be unrecognizable. She wasn’t worried about those people finding her; it wouldn’t be so easy for them to locate her in a short amount of time.

She took a cab straight to the Estate, and don’t ask how she knew Ya Xi lived there. An address, after all, was easy for her to obtain if she wished.

There was no one at the entrance of the Estate. She stayed in the car, hesitating for a moment and didn’t get out. The driver glanced at her curiously, "Miss, we’ve arrived," he reminded her.

Su Qing pulled out some paper money from her bag, "Wait a moment."

The driver took the money, immediately falling silent. His passenger was obviously wealthy; the tip was more than he’d make in a day.

Su Qing didn’t know when Ya Xi would come out, so she could only wait outside the gate. But luck was on her side. It wasn’t long before the gates of the Estate opened, and a red car drove out with only one woman inside—who else but Ya Xi?

"Follow that car," Su Qing told the driver.

Today, Ya Xi was going out to find inspiration. Doug had set a rule for her: she must go out at least once a week. In the beginning, Doug accompanied her, but now she usually went alone.

As the car left the Estate, Ya Xi noticed an extra taxi at the gate. She glanced but didn’t pay it much mind. However, after driving for a while, she realized that the taxi was following her. She began to panic, and bad memories suddenly flooded her mind. Her face gradually turned pale, her forehead beaded with sweat, and her hands trembled faintly on the steering wheel.

Su Qing saw Ya Xi driving her car erratically and suddenly realized that Ya Xi must have noticed she was being followed. She couldn’t help feeling some annoyance at her own lack of foresight; Ya Xi had always been haunted by her own psychological shadows, and her actions had probably frightened her.

"Pass the car in front of us," Su Qing said indifferently.

Upon hearing this, the taxi driver stepped on the gas, and the car quickly passed Ya Xi’s. Ya Xi watched as the taxi drove further away until it was out of sight. Only then did she let out a long sigh of relief, convincing herself that she had been overly paranoid.

Shaking her head with a wry smile, Ya Xi thought Doug was right; she had been excessively cautious to the point of paranoia, and no wonder Doug had told her to go out and mingle with crowds.

However, Ya Xi still didn’t enjoy mingling with people; even when she went out for inspiration, she chose places where there were fewer people around. The car stopped at the entrance of a park, and Ya Xi got out. This was her destination for today, and she was carrying a DSLR camera.

Su Qing also entered the park afterward. After asking her driver to pass Ya Xi’s car, she had taken another car and followed her. Initially, she had just wanted to catch a distant glimpse of her, but upon seeing Ya Xi, she changed her mind.

Ya Xi was taking pictures when a woman suddenly appeared in her field of vision. The woman was wearing sunglasses, and her face was unclear. Ya Xi didn’t pay much attention; after a glance, she shifted her gaze away and found a bench to sit down. But the woman walked straight towards her and sat down right beside her.

Ya Xi frowned and glanced at the woman, but didn’t think too much of it. After all, this was a public park, and just as she was entitled to sit and rest here, so could anyone else. She quietly shifted to make more distance between herself and the woman.

All of Su Qing’s attention was on Ya Xi, and she naturally noticed that Ya Xi tensed up subconsciously as soon as Su Qing sat down. Her eyes flickered slightly. Was Ya Xi still unwell?

She took off her sunglasses and offered Ya Xi a small smile. "Ya Xi, long time no see."

Ya Xi stared at her blankly, somewhat surprised. "You know me?"

Su Qing smiled. "Yes, I know you. I’m a friend of Shen Qinglan’s. We’ve met before."

Ya Xi frowned and thought hard but couldn’t remember ever meeting this woman. Such a beautiful woman was sure to leave an impression had they met, but despite wracking her brains, Ya Xi couldn’t recall where she might have seen Su Qing. Yet Su Qing spoke with such certainty that it didn’t seem like a lie.

"When I saw you, you were asleep, so you probably don’t recognize me, but I know you," Su Qing explained.

Hearing this, Ya Xi immediately understood. That explained everything. "Were you the one following me just now?" she asked.

Su Qing nodded unabashedly. "I apologize for causing you any distress."

"Why were you following me?" Ya Xi was not pleased.

"I knew Qinglan cared deeply for her sister, and since I happened to be in Xueli City on some business, I heard from Zeng Qinglan that you were here, so I thought I’d come and see for myself. You could say I came on Qinglan’s behalf to check on you."

"You know my sister well?" Ya Xi asked, her guard not dropping despite hearing Su Qing mention Shen Qinglan repeatedly.

A tender look crossed Su Qing’s eyes as she nodded with a smile. "Yes, very well. She’s the most important... friend in my life. Of course, if you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to call Qinglan right now to confirm my identity," Su Qing added, noting Ya Xi’s apprehension.

At this, Ya Xi relaxed somewhat. It appeared this person truly was a friend of Shen Qinglan’s and someone she had previously encountered.

"Is my sister doing well?" Ya Xi asked, her eyes betraying a hint of nostalgia and regret. She knew her own avoidance must have hurt Shen Qinglan.

Su Qing offered a faint smile, "If you’re so concerned about her, why not call her yourself, or go back to see her?"

Ya Xi fell silent. To her, Su Qing was a stranger. The only reason she was sitting here chatting with Su Qing was to glean some news about Shen Qinglan’s recent situation.

Without waiting for her to reply, Su Qing continued, "Qinglan is doing very well. She’s become a mother again, this time to twins."

Upon hearing this, Ya Xi’s eyes brightened, "Two daughters?"

"No, a boy and a girl, a pair of dragon and phoenix twins."

Ya Xi finally smiled, "That’s wonderful."

"Ya Xi, Qinglan is actually very worried about you," Su Qing said. She didn’t know why Shen Qinglan was so fond of Ya Xi, but Ya Xi must have been important to Shen Qinglan; otherwise, she wouldn’t have personally risked danger to rescue Ya Xi from Qin Yan.

"If you see my sister, please tell her I’m fine and ask her not to worry."

"Why don’t you go and tell her yourself?"

Again, Ya Xi fell silent. Could she admit that every time she saw Shen Qinglan, she was reminded of those unpleasant memories from the past? Old acquaintances and old events always had a way of invoking emotions.

"Ya Xi, you’re not the only person in this world who is the most unfortunate. There are others who have it even worse than you; they just don’t show it," Su Qing said, looking at Ya Xi like that, suddenly feeling a surge of anger.

Ya Xi abruptly looked up at her, her eyes filled with anger, "You’re not me. You don’t know what happened. What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"

Su Qing gazed steadily into her eyes, "I know."

Ya Xi’s face turned pale all at once, and Su Qing continued, "It wasn’t Qinglan who told me. I found out on my own."

"What right do you have to investigate me?" Ya Xi became furious, like a wounded little beast, angrily growling.

Su Qing placed a hand on Ya Xi’s shoulder, and her body suddenly stiffened. She disliked being touched by others; it made her feel disgusted.

"Ya Xi, wake up. How long do you plan to keep running away from yourself?!"

"My business is none of your concern. You have no right to interfere," Ya Xi tried to shake off Su Qing’s hand, but Su Qing held her firmly, "Let me go, or I’ll call for help."

"If you want me to let you go, then calm down. Otherwise, I’ll knock you out and take you away."

Ya Xi suddenly quieted down, just staring at her expressionlessly, "You’re not my sister’s friend. Who the hell are you?" Shen Qinglan’s friends wouldn’t treat her like this.

As promised, Su Qing released Ya Xi, who didn’t move, "I am Qinglan’s friend, I haven’t lied to you about that. As to who I am, you only need to remember my name is Su Qing. Do you want to hear a story?"

Ya Xi pursed her lips.

Su Qing didn’t pay attention to her reaction and continued to speak, "Once there was a little girl whose father cherished her, but her mother didn’t like her. Although her mother never hit or scolded her, she just knew that her mother didn’t like her, even hated her. She didn’t know why and didn’t dare to ask. She thought that, without her mother’s love, at least she had her father, but all that changed when she was eight. One day her mother said she wanted to take her out to buy clothes, spoke softly and tenderly, and she thought her mother finally remembered her. She was very happy and wore her prettiest clothes to follow her mother outside, only to find that her mother didn’t take her to a store but to a dilapidated house with two strange men inside. She handed her over to them and then left without looking back."

"And then?" Ya Xi couldn’t help but ask, her face pale and her voice trembling. She thought of very terrible scenes.

Su Qing’s eyes turned chilly, and the smile on her lips was laced with mockery, "The little girl struggled, crying and calling for her mother, wanting her mother to take her home. Her voice became hoarse, but her mother didn’t appear. Then she was taken to an island full of children about her own age who had to train every day. If they were disobedient, someone would whip them."

"What were they being trained for?" Ya Xi asked subconsciously.

"To kill." The two words slipped from her red lips, making Ya Xi’s face even paler.

Su Qing chuckled, "It was an assassin organization. Those children were all to be trained as assassins. There, it was survival of the fittest. If you didn’t try hard to kill others, then you would be the one to die. It was that cruel."

"What happened to the girl after that? Did she survive?"

"She lived, yet she died."

Ya Xi didn’t understand.

Su Qing continued, "In a trial, she and a companion were chased to be killed by others. To save her companion, she was stabbed. She thought she was doomed but surprisingly, someone saved her. However, when she woke up, she had entered another den of wolves and continued to be trained as a pawn. She faced countless trials and tasks. She couldn’t remember how many times she had narrowly escaped death or how many scars she had. She was tired of this life, she wanted to escape, but that kind of place wasn’t somewhere you could just walk out of, unless you were dead."

"So did she end up dying?" Ya Xi trembled as she asked. The story Su Qing described was so shocking, like something out of a movie, unreal. She didn’t want to believe it, yet a voice inside her told her it was all true—that someone had been sent by their own biological mother to hell and struggled bitterly there.

"Not yet. She’s still looking for a way out, but who knows which day she might die. Even if she did die, no one in this world would remember her."

"What about her father?" Ya Xi suddenly asked. "Didn’t you say her father loved her?"

The smile on Su Qing’s lips turned colder, "Because her father had another child. After she disappeared, her father looked for her for a while and then forgot about her. He doted on that child, raised her up like a princess, completely oblivious to what his other daughter was going through while he lived a happy life."

Ya Xi’s heart clenched sharply. She looked at Su Qing, "Why would that child’s mother do such a thing?" Not her own flesh and blood? How could she send her own daughter to such a place? Ya Xi couldn’t believe that there could be such a heartless mother in the world.

"Because of hate. Her mother hated her father. She came to her father’s side to take revenge. Her mother had never loved her father, much less her; her birth was a tragedy waiting to happen."

"Is that little girl you?" Ya Xi softly asked.

Su Qing shook her head, "Not me, a friend of mine. This is the story she told me herself."

"So you’re also someone from that organization?"

"Yes," Su Qing gave her a firm answer, "But no one knows about this, not even Qinglan. I hope you can keep this a secret for me."

Ya Xi thought she would be scared; after all, the person in front of her might be an assassin who killed without batting an eye. But for some reason, she couldn’t muster up any fear for this person, almost certain that she wouldn’t harm her.

"Why are you telling me all of this?" Ya Xi couldn’t understand. Why should these things be told to someone who was still unrelated?

"Ya Xi," Su Qing’s expression turned serious, "what I want to tell you is that there are people in this world who are in worse situations than you. Yet they haven’t given up hope, they’re still striving to live, trying to get closer to the happiness they desire. Your happiness is within reach, so why close your heart and make the people who love you sad?"

"You haven’t experienced what I have, you don’t know how terrifying those memories are to me, my life is just one big tragedy." Tears streamed down Ya Xi’s face for the first time in front of a person who was practically a stranger to her.

"No matter how tragic you think you are, there are still people who love you. Your father, your brother, Shen Qinglan, and that doctor who has always been by your side. They’re all loving you with all their hearts. And before those things happened, you had a happy family, loving parents, and lived carefree like a princess growing up. Aren’t all these things worth cherishing to you? Ya Xi, one can’t just dwell in the sorrows of the past."

"I want to get out too, but I really can’t do it." Ya Xi’s body trembled slightly as she cried uncontrollably. She had tried, she really had tried.

Gently embracing her, Su Qing’s voice was tender, "Ya Xi, for those who love you, cherish yourself. The world is actually quite beautiful, and what you have now is what some people long for their whole lives and never attain. Don’t give up on them, and don’t give up on yourself." At this moment, Ya Xi did not see the profound sadness in Su Qing’s eyes.

However, Su Qing’s words struck Ya Xi like a heavy hammer, making her vision darken before she lost consciousness.

When Ya Xi woke up, she was in a hospital with only Doug by her side. She stared blankly at the ceiling for a long time before turning to Doug and asking softly, "Where is she?"

Doug looked puzzled, "Who?"

"A woman, very beautiful, with brownish-yellow curly hair. Her name is Su Qing."

Doug shook his head, "When I arrived, you were the only one in the room. Ya Xi, what happened to you today? Why did you faint? And who is this Su Qing you speak of?" Doug had rushed over as soon as he received a call from the hospital and had no idea what had happened.

Ya Xi shook her head, "It’s nothing, I just suddenly felt dizzy and then passed out. That Su Qing is the person who sent me to the hospital."

Doug didn’t believe her explanation, but since Ya Xi didn’t wish to discuss it, he didn’t press her, "Don’t think too much, you need to rest."

But Ya Xi didn’t close her eyes to rest; the words Su Qing had said to her swirled in her mind. She turned her head to meet Doug’s concerned and worried eyes, feeling a slight sourness in her heart, and she whispered, "Where is my phone? I want to call my sister."

Doug’s eyes lit up at these words, as this was the first time in nearly a year that Ya Xi had expressed the desire to call Shen Qinglan.

Ya Xi took the phone and dialed Shen Qinglan’s number, "Sister, it’s Ya Xi."

*******

After sending Ya Xi to the hospital, Su Qing left and bought a plane ticket to Nancheng.

She arrived at the gates of the Yan Family Estate, staring at the house before her but not going inside.

This house existed only in her memories. As a child, she had once asked the man she called Daddy why she didn’t live with them and why he didn’t take her to live in that beautiful house with her mom. At the time, Yan Anbang only smiled at her with regret filling his eyes. What she once didn’t understand, she now knew all too well.

She held no hatred for Yan Anbang; all the warmth of her childhood memories were given by him. Many times, when she couldn’t bear it anymore, it was these memories that helped her survive.

The gate to the Yan Family Estate opened and Su Qing hid to the side. She saw Yan Anbang walking out, wearing a coat, his hair graying, his body and spirit not as vibrant as the father she remembered, who often had a gentle smile on his face. Now he looked like a frail old man with a slightly bent back, even though he was not even sixty.

Su Qing knew that because of Qin Yan, Yan Anbang had become alienated from everyone. His son refused to forgive him, and his daughter did not want to see him; his home shattered and his family torn apart, such was the twilight years of Yan Anbang.

Su Qing’s gaze toward Yan Anbang was complex. She had once thought Yan Anbang had forgotten her. But later, she learned from Shen Qinglan that Yan Anbang always kept her childhood photos, and it was because of this that Shen Qinglan learned she was actually the daughter of the Yan Family.

Yan Anbang went to the supermarket and came out carrying a bag filled with simple foods like instant noodles and bread.

Su Qing followed him until he returned home, then she turned and left for the airport. She never intended to recognize him or even speak a word to him.

Qin Mu was dead; the person living was Su Qing. Qin Mu was the daughter of Yan Anbang, and Su Qing was an orphan.

When Su Qing appeared again, it was on the streets of MD, the main area of activity for that man. She did not disguise her identity, believing that man would soon receive the news and show up before her.

She had already decided; instead of living in hiding, constantly in fear, it was better to fight to the death. Perhaps, she could create a chance for herself to survive.

But the person who appeared before her wasn’t that man; it was Eden.

Su Qing stared at Eden incredulously, "Didn’t you leave? Why are you back?"

Eden didn’t respond to her question but said, "I’ve said before, wherever you go, I’ll follow. I know what you’re intending to do, and I’ll be there with you. Though my fighting skills indeed aren’t as good as yours, I can still take a bullet for you when it counts."

Su Qing gazed intently at Eden, "Do you know what you’re doing? Do you understand what this means?"

Eden nodded, "I do."

"And you’re still willing to go?"

"We’re friends, I can’t let you face danger all by yourself." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Friends. The word lingered in Su Qing’s mouth, and she suddenly smiled with a trace of bitterness, "Eden, aren’t you afraid that I’ll fall in love with you?"

Eden shook his head confidently, "You won’t."

Su Qing laughed along, though her nose tingled with sourness.

How can you be so sure I won’t? she thought to herself.

"Alright, if you want to go with me, then let’s go. This matter has to come to an end eventually."

Eden gave a slight smile and followed Su Qing’s lead. But as they turned a street corner, he felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck, and the last thing he saw was Su Qing’s apologetic face looking down at him.
