Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Has Anyone Bullied You at School_1

Nathalie Quinlan finished replying to a message from Red Alliance, feeling thirsty, she took her cup downstairs to get some water.

She happened to see Amadeus Yancey making a phone call downstairs. He seemed to be talking to someone, with a very low voice, "They doubled it again? They must be quite wealthy. Don’t give them an answer for now, let them hang... wait for them to increase it more..."

"Who told you I was going to agree? Just leave it for now, see how I feel later."

From the corner of his eye, he saw the girl coming down from upstairs, he looked down and told the person on the phone, "That’s it, you handle the rest." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

As Nathalie came down, he had just ended the call, when he looked up and saw the cup in Nathalie’s hand, he put his phone aside and said, "There’s milk in the fridge, I’ll warm a cup for you."

Nathalie wanted to say she didn’t feel like drinking milk, but he had already gone to the kitchen to get it, so she had no choice but to wait for him to bring it over.

While waiting, she pondered about who he had been on the phone with.

Lost in thought, the man had already come over with the warmed milk, his tall figure casting a shadow over her. Nathalie realized he was taller than she had thought; the top of her head just reached his chest. Being so close, she could even hear the sound of his heartbeat.

Thump thump thump, it beat strong and forceful!

Nathalie’s earlobes suddenly grew hot, and her chest felt a little stuffy. She tried to take a half step back without showing it, but before she could move, a large hand had already encircled her waist.

"Don’t move, there’s a chair behind you." His magnetic male voice, lingering atop her head, sounded as if it was whispering right beside her ear—husky and enticing.

The restlessness inside Nathalie seemed to grow stronger at his provocation. She stood rigid, unable to move, as his breath fell on her neck, tickling and electrifying.

Fortunately, Amadeus steadied her with his arm before removing it like a gentleman, and handed her the warm cup of milk.

"Be careful, it’s hot."

Nathalie responded with a vague "Mmm" and, clutching the cup, she started sipping it, one small gulp after another.

For some reason, she felt the atmosphere was a bit strange; she couldn’t pinpoint exactly where, but it was a situation she had never encountered before. The air around her was like cotton, entangling and yet feebly resistant.

Amadeus watched the girl in front of him as she drank her milk in small, intermittent sips, cup in hand, and long eyelashes demurely lowered, saying nothing. Just watching her serene, melon-seed face, she gave off an obedient impression.

However, he had witnessed her unrestrained side at the City Hospital just a few days earlier and was well aware that Nathalie was not the docile character she appeared to be on the surface.

Seeing her lower her snow-white neck without looking at him, Amadeus felt at ease, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He found a topic to discuss, "How has school been these past few days?"

Upon hearing his question, Nathalie relaxed a little, lifting her eyes diffusively, "It’s been alright."

Apart from having to sit in her seat every day and listen to the non-stop lectures from the teacher, everything else was fine.

It just wasn’t as free.

Amadeus looked at her with deep eyes on her porcelain-white profile, and suddenly asked, "Has anyone bullied you at school?"

"What counts as bullying?" Nathalie didn’t quite understand.

Being beaten up?

That hadn’t happened.

At most, it was Ghania Quinlan sending her text messages to annoy her, but she had already been blocked by Nathalie.

Remembering the situation he had just learned about after making a phone call to No. 1 Middle School and looking into her dark, defiant eyes, he knew she hadn’t taken any of those people seriously. Pressing his lips together, he changed the subject, "It’s nothing."

He chatted with Nathalie for a few more minutes before noticing that she looked a bit tired, so he sent her upstairs to bed.

As soon as Nathalie left, he turned and made a phone call.

"Audrick..."
