The Useless Heiress Is Actually A Bigshot-Chapter 162 - : Parting on Bad Terms
Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Parting on Bad Terms
Upon seeing Old Madam Lu at that moment, Zhong Nianyao did have a fleeting moment of stupefaction. However, she quickly remembered the meal she’d had with Lu Yichen, and she more or less had a grasp on the situation.
Old Madam Lu looked toward the doorway and when she saw Zhong Nianyao enter, she just glanced over indifferently and gestured to the seat opposite her, “Sit!”
The attitude wasn’t outright arrogant, but it was dismissive. Clearly, in her eyes, a person like Zhong Nianyao was beneath her notice. There was no overt disdain or high-handedness, yet it was obvious that she didn’t regard her as important.
Zhong Nianyao wasn’t angry; she directly went to sit opposite Old Madam Lu. Then, without waiting to be asked, she picked up a teacup and took a sip.
Seeing Zhong Nianyao’s actions, Old Madam Lu couldn’t help but frown, a hint of scorn flashing in her eyes.
The two sat facing each other, neither of them speaking first.
For a time, the atmosphere in the room was exceptionally quiet. Apart from the minor sound of the serving woman preparing tea, there were no other superfluous sounds.
“You sure can keep your composure.”
It was unclear how much time had passed before Old Madam Lu finally spoke slowly, her tone flat and unreadable, “It’s just a pity!”
Zhong Nianyao raised an eyebrow but did not ask what was a pity. She just smiled and began to speak, “I naturally can keep my composure, after all, today you sought me out, not the other way around.”
Hearing this, Old Madam Lu wasn’t irritated. Instead, she lightly chuckled, “Quite an interesting girl, aren’t you? It’s just a pity that you and my Third son hardly seem well matched!”
As expected!
Zhong Nianyao immediately understood what was going on. After taking a sip of tea, she continued, “So, Old Madam Lu, you wanted to see me today because of Third Young Master Lu?”
“Heard you and my Third son are quite familiar!” Old Madam Lu also put down her teacup, looking directly at Zhong Nianyao, “I was not aware that my Third son preferred your type!”
“Old Madam Lu, I think there are some things that need to be clarified.”
Old Madam Lu’s obviously contemptuous attitude didn’t cause any reaction from Zhong Nianyao; her tone remained even, “I don’t know what you’ve been told or by whom, but there’s nothing shady between me and Third Master. We simply shared a meal, that’s all.”
“Is that so?” Old Madam Lu voiced sarcastically, “I’ve never heard before of him dining with a woman. You are an exception.”
“That really is an honor for me!” Zhong Nianyao shrugged her shoulders and carried on, “However, Old Madam, just for a meal, you’ve made such an effort to see me—should I be flattered?”
“Quick-witted tongue!” A flicker of displeasure flashed in Old Madam Lu’s eyes, “But our Lu Family has profound heritage and always maintains good relations with other elite families. We need a prudent daughter-in-law, not someone who is sharp-tongued.”
“Rest assured,” Zhong Nianyao shook her head, “Old Madam, I can tell you that I have no interest in Third Master Lu or in the Lu Family, so there’s no need for you to be so tense.”
Hearing Zhong Nianyao’s position, a glimmer of confusion flashed in Old Madam Lu’s eyes, “So, is this your way of showing determination?”
“No!” Zhong Nianyao’s lips curved into a smile, “I’m simply letting you know how I feel currently, to ease your mind for the time being. As for the future, who can say for certain. Maybe one day I will suddenly find Third Master Lu interesting!”
“I’m someone who goes with the flow, so indeed, the future is uncertain.”
She never made any conclusions about things that had not yet happened. As for her and Lu Yichen, she didn’t have any peculiar feelings, at least not at the moment.
As for future matters, that was something to be discussed later.
Of course, she also didn’t deny that her response now was partly to aggravate Old Madam Lu. After all, she was indeed not pleased to be summoned in such a manner.
Upon hearing Zhong Nianyao’s words, even Old Madam Lu, who had always remained calm, couldn’t help but change her expression, “You’re provoking me.”

“I wouldn’t dare.”
Though she said so, the expression on Zhong Nianyao’s face told a different story, “I’m just speaking the truth. However, I believe what Old Madam really needs to do now isn’t to lecture me here, but to manage Third Master properly. After all, Third Master is your son, and I have no relation to you whatsoever.”
The Lu Family is the foremost family in the Imperial Capital and even throughout Hua Country. Everyone has always been extremely respectful when facing Old Madam Lu, but now, she was being lectured by a mere girl. Her face instantly darkened.
As Old Madam Lu’s expression changed, the tension in the private room grew heavier.
The woman who was making tea slowed down significantly; even her breathing became cautious. She was tense, afraid that any misstep might make her collateral damage.
Yet Zhong Nianyao, the source of all this, seemed completely oblivious, smiling slightly before standing up, “Old Madam Lu, I think by now, you probably don’t wish to converse with me anymore. So, I won’t bother you any longer.”
“I’ll take my leave then, you continue enjoying your tea.”
Having said that, under Old Madam Lu’s scowl, she coolly turned around and left the private room.
The bodyguard at the door didn’t dare to stop her and let Zhong Nianyao leave.
Once Zhong Nianyao had left the private room, Old Madam Lu couldn’t control her anger any longer. She directly slammed the teacup onto the ground, producing a series of crisp sounds as the porcelain shattered.
Whether it was the woman making tea inside or the bodyguards at the door, all were too scared now to even breathe deeply.
Zhong Nianyao, who hadn’t gone far, upon hearing the sound of the cup smashing, couldn’t help but curl her lips into a scornful arc.
After leaving the teahouse, without any hesitation, she immediately dialed Lu Yichen’s number.
This was previously arranged when Lu Yichen suggested swapping numbers so she could assist with any paranormal events in the future. After a moment of thought, she agreed, and they exchanged contact information.
Soon, the call was answered, and a magnetic voice sounded.
“It really is a rarity for you to call me.”
