The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 35 - . Thoughts
Chapter 35: 35. Thoughts
"Argghhh!" Mauve stretched out her hands and screamed. She was bored out of her mind. There was nothing to do inside her boring room but she didn't want to leave it just yet. She could run into Jael.
"Arggh," she groaned again and covered her hands with her face. It was too hard to think about.
She didn't know why she was avoiding him but she was not ready to face what had happened that day. She touched her neck, the bite marks didn't hurt, they felt completely healed. It had only hurt when he broke her skin.
She sighed and rolled. She wondered if she should ask Vae how she felt when Damon had fed from her. She shook her head vigorously. It felt unfair to ask Vae when she didn't want to tell Vae what had transpired between her and Jael.
"Uh, princess. Are you okay?"
Mauve jolted out of bed and almost head-butted Vae but thankfully, the maid moved out of the way in time.
"Vae!" She called out surprised. "I am fine," she immediately tried to compose herself.
"Are you sure? You were rolling as if in pain and you didn't hear when I came in. Is it…" She paused, and stared around before she whispered, "Cramps?"
"No," Mauve screamed. "I am fine."
"I know your cramps can be pretty nasty on the first day."
"Vae!" She cried. "I said that's not it."
"Okay, then what is the problem?"
"Nothing, I was just thinking."
"If you say so, princess. Your lunch is here. Also, the young vampire Mill said to ask if you would also like to have the last meal in your room."
"Mill? I thought you didn't know Mill. I didn't know her name when we spoke earlier but I've seen her a lot of times. She usually prepares your meal…" Vae paused and brought her hand to her chin. "Well, she gives me the tray. I think the head cook takes care of the cooking. I don't know. I am not exactly allowed in the kitchen."
Mauve frowned, "Do they feed you properly."
Vae chuckled, "Of course, a little too much in my opinion. Come on, princess, eat. Don't look so glum on my behalf. Life is actually a lot easier here."
Mauve closed her eyes and turned to the meal. If life was easier here then why did Vae look like she would rather be elsewhere?
"Princess," Vae called.
"Yes," she answered without raising her head. Her emotions were clearly written all over her face.
"You didn't answer."
"Huh? I just answered you."
"No, the question. Where are your thoughts?" Vae chuckled. "Would you prefer the last meal in your room?"
"Oh, yes please."
Vae frowned, "I see."

Her voice sounded low and Mauve raised her head to see what was wrong. Vae's expression was a little hard to read.
Mauve returned her attention to the meal, eating slowly while Vae walked around the room, tidying imaginary specks of dirt.
Mauve was going to be here for a very long time and even if she hasn't adapted to life here, she could say she wasn't doing too badly.
Vae on the other hand was different but that wasn't the only problem. Vae had people back in the kingdom. She didn't. People who probably couldn't wait for Vae to come back. She sighed. Unfortunately, she could not relate. She didn't know what it meant to be wanted.
"Princess, are you sure everything is alright? You have been sighing since the beginning of your meal." Vae closed the gap between them and placed the back of her palm against Mauve's forehead.
Mauve pushed her hand away. "I am fine. I am just tired. I have been up all day and it's past midnight already."
Vae gasped, "You haven't slept a wink?"
Mauve shook her head. She didn't feel tired though but she did feel a need to sleep.
"Princess," Vae looked horrified. "You will age faster if you don't eat properly. Your husband is a vampire, you can't afford to age quickly."
Mauve eyes turned to slits. No matter what she did or didn't do, she would still age faster than Jael.
"You make it sound like I am going to turn into an old woman tomorrow."
"Trust me, I have seen women age really quickly. Promise me you'll get some rest immediately."
Mauve rolled her eyes. "I promise."
"Good," Vae said and picked up the tray. "Go to sleep, I will wake you in time for dinner."
"Okay," Mauve responded unenthusiastically and climbed into bed.
"Don't lie down yet!" Vae screamed. "Give it a few minutes." She said in a lower pitch.
"I know, if I should go to sleep as soon as I eat, I will end up bloated like a woman with child."
Vae glared at her, "Don't say it as if it's a myth."
"Bye Vae, I would like to rest."
Vae looked like she wanted to say something but she didn't. She walked out of the room without looking back.
Mauve sighed for the umpteenth time. Her back was killing her and she badly wanted to lie down but she knew she could do that yet.
She looked around the room, Vae had helped her arrange her belongings, she had done absolutely nothing to help. She had offered numerous times of course but the woman wouldn't let her.
She thought back to the castle and the earliest part of the journey. Things were surely different not but she was glad, Vae was the one who had accompanied her.
She felt bad that she was the reason Vae was away from her family but she knew she would have had an even harder time without Vae.
She slipped down and laid her entire body on the bed. She placed her head on the pillow and sighed in satisfaction when the pain eased from her waist.
She closed her eyes and tried to keep her mind blank but things she didn't want to think about kept popping into her thoughts. Even with her churning thoughts, she fell asleep in a few minutes.
