The Vampire's King Pet-Chapter 47: Assassins
Serena could only hear noises, screams and sounds, she wanted to look outside but her thoughts didn’t let her, she did look out the window but it was too dark to see anything.
Her heart was beating very fast, why would someone attack the king, just how many enemies does the king has. She prayed that things are alright outside and the king was doing well, though she knew very well that the king was very capable of protecting himself but she couldn’t stop herself from praying.
Serena’s her snapped to the side when she heard a loud bang on the door, someone was trying to open it and just then a man opened the door.
"Who are you?" She whispered quietly, her heart was beating so fast she could barely hear herself think.
"Interesting, I didn’t expect him to come with his whore but that’s good for me." He said more to himself, he moved foward to enter the carriage but before he could get to her, she sent a hard kick to his stomach.
The man lost his balance and fell out of the carriage, he groaned in pain. Serena used this opportunity to jump out of the carriage, she wanted to run away but the man held her legs.
"Let go of me you monster." She said kicking his hands off her leg, the man screamed in pain, he cursed out trying to grip her leg but Serena wasn’t giving in, she kicked his face and he subconsciously left her leg to touch his face, she quickly ran into the woods hoping to find the King.
The darkness made Serena shiver in fear, she stopped running to massage get aching legs, she didn’t know where she was or how to find the King. She turned back only to stand face to face with the man, he looked furious and she knew why.
"I’m going enjoy killing you." He breathed out, Serena wanted to run away but he jumped on her pushing her to the floor with a thud. Serena let out a low groan, she tried to push him off her but he pinned her hands aggressively to the floor.
"You’re going to pay for that," He said, Serena was about to scream when a voice said behind them, calm, low and dangerous.
"Get off her."
Serena already knew who the voice was for, it was enough to send relied through her. The man pulled Serena up and placed a knife close to her throat.
"If you come any closer I’ll slit her throat, what good will she be if she’s dead." He threatened pushing the knife closee, a small laugh escaped his lips.
"0ne two.... Ten."
That was all that came out of Akexanders lips before he lauched foward, everthing happened withing a blink of an eye, Serena could only gasp as a second ago she was held captive with the man and now Akexander was holding the knife.
"Go back to the carriage." He said to her, she didn’t say anything, she only nodded in return, Alexander guided the hand holding the knife to stab himself in the shoulder, a loud painful scream tore through the silent forest.
"Who sent you?" Akexander asked. The man didn’t say anything, he was hesitant to reveal something to the king and Alexander wasn’t patient. His claws elongated and he dugged it deep into the stabbed shoulder of the man who cried in pain.
"Who sent you? I might consider letting you go of you tell me." Akexander said, he was getting bored and impatient. He was about to dig it deep when the man blurted out.
"A masked man hired us, he told us you would be traveling tonight and asked us to kill you." He said quickly, his breath was heavy due to excessive pain.
"That doesn’t give me information." Alexander said, his golden eyes shining, it made the man scared.
"I swear on my mother that is the only thing I know." He said quickly, Alexander pulled his claws away from his shoulder. The man turned around wanting to leave but Alexander stopped him.
"What are you... Doing?" He asked fear evident in his voice. Alexander tilted his head to the side, a small smirk appeared on his face. "I said I might let you go but seriously did you think I would let you go, anyone who touches what’s mine dies." He said, the last one his voice deepened.
Alexander grabbed the man’s hair, he smashed his face on the ground, once, twice and the third time before pulling his hands away. He looked at his gloves, they were filled with blood, he let out a annoyed sigh before pulling then off and dumping it on the corspes.
Serena who stood behind a tree watched the scene unfold, her heart was beating fast, the king sounded like the devil himself, she wanted to be scared but no matter what, she wasn’t scared of him at all. She stepped out walking towards the king who crouched down trying to search the man’s body for anything.
He looked up at her, their eyes staring at each other but she suddenly tore her gaze away when she noticed movement behind the king, her eyes widen when she saw a man holding a sword creap behind the king wanting to attack him.
"Oh god." She let out, she ran to the king and knelt down in front of him, She used her hand to cover both the king’s ear, Alexander frowned wondering what she wanted to do but before he could pull her hands away, she let out a scream.
A scream in form of a siren, it rang through the forest, sharp and loud, the man who they to hurt Alexander screamed as the siren filled his ears, he bled out from his nose and ears before droping to the floor dead.
Serena stopped screaming, the forest turning quiet once again, she turned to the king who looked visibly surprised. Serena didn’t hesitate, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug taking him by surprise, he didn’t expect this move from her.
She didn’t say anything, she just burried her head in the his shoulders. After what felt like a decades to the king he slowly shifted and she pulled herself away from him.
"Let’s head back." He said calmly and she nodded, she was clearly shocked by her own actions. They both headed back to where the carriage was.
"Your majesty, they were not bandits but assassins." The guard said.
"I know, be careful and vigilant for more attacks." He ordered and the guards nodded. "Your majesty, I don’t think we can continue the journey, the horses are weak and one is Injured, they need rest." the guard said.
"Hmm, there is an inn close by, we can stay there for the night." Alexander said calmly and the guard nodded, they all went back to their positions, Alexander and Serena climbed into the carriage and soon it began to move.
"Why did you do that? I knew he was behind me." Alexander asked, he found her ability cool, she was a mermaid after all and some of them were known to have siren voices as combact but he wasn’t expecting Serena to have one to.
Serena smiled. "I know but I wanted to protect you too." she replied.
"Why?"
"Becauss you need it, you are always in front, always protecting your people and the people around you, it’s exhausting. You also need someone to protect you when you need it." She said.
Her voice echoed in his head, what was she doing to him? Her voice, her words they were surprisingly warm in his heart, melting little by little his stone cold ice heart.
Alexander leaned in closer, his thump brushing her neck lightly, the gesture sent goosebumps around Serena’s body.
"Serena..." He said, his voice low and calm. "You should stop doing that, you have no idea what you’re putting yourself against, it’s a burning fire and I don’t want you to get burnt by it." He said.
Serena swallowed an invisible lump in her throat, she knew very well what he ment by that, she wanted to say no I wouldn’t, I would rather get burnt by the fire but she didn’t she simply stared at him, her heart beating fast.
He let go of her neck and leaned backwards. Serena’s eyes widen as she saw the long cut on his palm, it must have been from when he pulled the knife away frome her throat.
"Your majesty, you have a cut!" She voiced out causing Akexander to look at his palm, she noticed how he didn’t look bothered or anything.
"Does it hurt?" She asked, the worry in her tone didn’t go unnoticed by the king and he wondered why she was worried about him.
"It alright it will heal anytime soon." He said calmly.
"But—" She was about to say something when He showed her his palm, the long cut that used to be there suddenly disappeared leaving no mark
