Chapter 570: The waiting game 3

"I guess I am easy to read. Yes, I am here to ask a favour." Cassius said..

"One of Helena’s descendants, Bethany, was betrayed by fate. She prayed for me to look after her baby. I want to inquire about the unborn baby’s fate. Will she survive?"

Cassius didn’t know why Bethany’s prayers plagued his mind. They could not interfere directly in their lives but he could at least check their fates.

Temeris nodded, he muttered some strange words, the mirror lying on the floor ripped and images started to show from Abrielle’s birth to her death. Temeris’s brows furrowed. She was the one Maledicta was searching for.

The mortal soulmate of the child of the prophecy. "She is destined to have a short life," Temeris said. Cassius frowned, remembering what Bethany had gone through; her daughter also had a twisted fate.

"Is there any way to change her fate?" Cassius asked. Temeris was in deep thought. He couldn’t change fate, only the oracle could.

"You might not change her fate but you can twist the future. The past is certain, but the future isn’t. If you change something in the present, it might lead to an alternative future, but not everything can be altered." Cassius was puzzled as to what Temeris meant.

Then something struck him. "If I can’t change her fate in this timeline, what if I give her another timeline where things are better?" He suggested and did something most won’t think of.

Maledicta, after finding out the identity of Cedric’s soul mate and his future, made sure to be present during the birth. She didn’t have to do anything because Callista was born unlucky.

Then the long-awaited moment arrived. Abrielle was born, and her cries pierced through the room. She was a bubbly baby, but Maledicta noticed something as she watched from the shadows. The baby’s soul was incompetent.

She had never heard or seen anything like this, so she went back to Temeris to consult him about the future. "How did it change?" She asked Temeris, barely holding back her anger.

"How is this possible?" She blurted. Temeris sighed. "Something that wasn’t meant to change happened, that’s why her future is blank."

Maledicta forced a smile, "What does a blank future mean?" She already had a bad feeling about this. What she had planned for long could not fall apart now. Just 21 years more. She had waited for so long.

Temeris told her what he could. He wasn’t interested in the mortal’s life. "A blank future isn’t determined. Her original fate might happen, but it depends on her decision. The only way to fix it is to unite the souls.... Right now, one person is leaving two lifelines simultaneously, and it’s messed up her fate."

Her fingers curled. Someone had interfered, and she was certain Temeris wouldn’t tell her who. So she had to fix the problem herself. "How do I unite the souls?" Temeris’s brows furrowed, finding her question suspicious.

"Are you trying to interfere with fate, Maledicta?" The question left her stunned. "No, I misspoke." She immediately made an excuse.

Unable to find any answers, Maledicta left Temeris, but this wasn’t over. She was already having too much fun in this revenge game to stop now. She needed answers; if she could not find answers from the gods, she had to find them herself.

Maledicta swallowed her pride and approached Cassius. The god of wisdom had the most diverse library; there were only two places she could find a solution: either in Netheralis or Cassius. There was no way she would beg Raziel, especially when there were rumours about what happened to Elysia.

She approached Nyxoria and asked her a favour. "You need access to Cassius’s Library." Nyxoria was instantly suspicious of her friend. Something was off but she could not lay her fingers on it

In the end, she obliged. "I will ask Cassius, he owes me a favour ". An appreciative smile beamed on her lips. Cassius agreed to Nyxoria’s request. He didn’t think much of it; no one would have suspected the gentle goddess Maledicta to carry such a long-term grudge.

It took her days of studying; if Cassius had enquired about what she was searching for, he would have caught up. He didn’t and maybe it was fate trying to fix himself. Maledicta finally found what she was searching for.

All she had to do was kill both halves at the same time in their separate lives, and Abrielle’s soul would unite. Aside from that, she gained other interesting knowledge concerning time-travelling and some peculiar things.

A system, it was like an Oracle. She gained all the knowledge she required for her twisted revenge, which was just an excuse to mess with fate from Cassius’ library.

The perfect tool for her revenge was none other than Callista. Before she approached Callista she had already been poisoning her heart bit by bit. Isabella’s suicide wasn’t just bad luck. The goddess spite Isabella’s heart and drove her to insanity only to get to Callista.

But before she could unite the souls she had to find the second half. Maledicta took a short trip to the timeline the soul was sent, and it took her some time to find the exact one, but she eventually did.

And luck was on her side, Midnight Queen was very popular, and her book, the priestess and the Dragons, was everywhere. After a quick investigation, she discovered Midnight Queen’s true identity...

At first sight, when she saw the girl with auburn hair and hazel eyes, she knew. They didn’t have much physical similarity, but her soul held a glimmer of divine light tied to Cassius..

The author had no idea that her best-selling book, which she wrote based on her dreams, was a warning of her doomed fate in another timeline.

It was a book signing event, and Hazel had a mask on with a face cap to hide her identity. Maledicta approached with a smile, "Please, can I get your autograph. I am a huge fan." She chimed.

Hazel nodded, she found nothing weird about signing an autograph. It was a copy of the priestess and the dragons. "Here," she chimed handing over the book

"Thanks!! "Maledicta squealed like a fan girl, then accepted the book. In the process, her bracelet accidentally pricked Hazel, drawing out her blood.

"Ouch, that hurts." Hazel winced. "I am so sorry." Maledicta put on a pitiful appearance. Trying to help.

Hazel moved away, "It’s fine." She said then glanced at the line. "Next..."
