The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 129
Nia’s words were like a thunder shock to Princess Eleanor.
The Princess felt her existence pause. She was looking straight at Nia but her mind was constantly asking a question, ’My brother? Why? Why would he ask Nia to be in a relationship with Duke Felix?’
Princess Eleanor was nervous as she tried to find a reasonable answer on her own. ’Of course, if my brother knows that Duke Felix likes Nia and wants to pursue her he might have helped. Was it because he saw how much Duke Felix likes Nia? But it cannot be so, Nia said that even in his letters the Duke asked about me, but did not show any care about Nia as any other lovers do. So why? What was the reason that he wanted Nia to accept Duke Felix’s pursuit?’
Princess Eleanor was silent but she felt a soft touch on her hand. She looked up at Nia who smiled at her, "Don’t think too much Princess. You tend to come to a decision soon,"
Princess Eleanor laughed as if she had heard some joke. "It is not that I come to a decision soon, it is just that I do not know what to say after a particular time. My mind would stop and I would try to come to a conclusion. Concussion and not a decision, Nia. They both are different. Anyway, tell me why would my brother want you to agree?"
Nia listened to Princess Eleanor’s tone as she nodded, "Yes, Prince Edwin asked me to agree to Duke Felix. How can I say this, but it was all because he thought something was wrong with the Duke."
Nia took a deep breath as she looked straight at Princess Eleanor, "Did you remember why I decided to stay back in the mansion when the attack happened? Prince Edwin told me to. He said that I should stay with Duke Felix and spend some time with him to know what was in his mind. He was not a Duke at the time so it was easier. Even when I agreed to be with him, it was a month prior to the attack."
"Nia, do you know what you are implying?" Princess Eleanor’s tone was low. "I know but I also know that I was misguided. I lost my focus. So let me say this Princess before I think it is too late. Prince Edwin had his doubts but I could not find anything. When the attack happened all I cared about was you and even in that time, Duke Felix was the one who encouraged you to move to your maternal Grandparent6’s place." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Princess Eleanor nodded her head. "Yes, he encouraged me a lot to move to my maternal Grandparent’s place."
Nia nodded her head, "And they encourage me to continue writing to Duke Felix under your name."
"They did?" Princess Eleanor could not believe it. She was feeling a lot confused. Although Princess Eleanor knew that her maternal grandparents loved Nia but it was a little too much. "Why?"
"Well at first I did not know but it looks like Prince Edwin had a word with them regarding his doubts. But the exchange of letters made me feel connected to the Duke. I missed some obvious signals and felt like there could be a future for us." Nia said in a small voice. Her embarrassed face was visible to Princess Eleanor who did not know how to react.
Princess Eleanor knew that her maternal Grandparents knew that Nia was in a relationship with Duke Felix. They also knew that she was writing to him under her name. But Princess Eleanor could not understand why they would ask her to do it. Because of her brother, Prince Edwin’s suggestion? And why would Prince Edwin doubt his childhood friend?
Although Princess Eleanor did not understand what was the situation or the circumstances that her brother started to doubt Duke Felix in but she knew that something must have triggered him. "Why didn’t he tell me that he had a suspicion on him?"
Nia was silent when she listened to Princess Eleanor’s words. She knew that answer but she felt like the answer would make the Princess hurt. Maybe it would open some wounds again.
"Tell me, Nia. You know why he did not talk to me." Princess Eleanor was persistent. She knew from the way Nia was acting that she knew very well what went down but she still refused to tell her. "I want to know."
"Because Prince Edwin thought you would not understand," Nia said as she looked at Princess Eleanor. She could see Princess Eleanor’s widened eyes as she struggled to talk but there was no reply from her end. Nia sighed, "Princess, Prince Edwin knew that Duke Felix is a good friend of yours. You both are childhood friends. Sometimes you both are like siblings. Prince Edwin was afraid that you might go and ask Duke Felix what he was doing and alert him,"
Princess Eleanor closed her eyes. She knew that what Nia was telling was true. If it was before this she would do it. She might really go and ask Duke Felix what was happening. What was wrong with him?
"Did you find something?" Princess Eleanor managed to ask. She knew that her focus should not be on the past but on the present and the present say that her lady in waiting was on her side, telling her the truth. "Is he involved in anything?"
Nia bit her lips as she shook her head. "No, he is not but there is something that is bothering me," Nia said honestly. "I don’t know if it has some weightage or not but I know that the thing cannot be overlooked."
"And what is it?" Princess Eleanor blinked her eyes in irritation. She wanted to know the answer.
"Well, now that I started analyzing the content of the letter after talking with Lady Gisella I found out a common pattern. I do not know how to explain it but ...."
"Princess," A knock on the door interrupted Nia’s words as they both looked at the door.
