Chapter 222: Chapter 220

Princess Eleanor opened her eyes.

She could not figure out where she was as darkness surrounded her. Her heart was beating faster as she took deep breaths, trying hard to keep her mind and senses intact. Princess Eleanor could not see anything. Was this one of her nightmares?

Princess Eleanor’s eyes narrowed. If this really was a nightmare, she would probably have seen some light somewhere. After all, all of her nightmares lead her to only one destination, and that was the battlefield where she lost everything. But why was this feeling different? Something was off and Princess Eleanor could feel it.

’Maybe I should run.’ Princess Eleanor thought as she took a deep breath and ran in an unknown direction. One could not perceive the path when everything is covered in darkness, but something feels off. The sense of creepiness was sweeping into her as she looked around and soon something came her way.

Princess Eleanor could feel it and a cold hand touched her, making her shiver. As soon as Princess Eleanor turned around, she was pushed by a force.

Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats quickened. She wanted to remain calm, but it was getting more useless as time passed. Princess Eleanor could feel pain. Her hand went to her leg as she felt it becoming useless. She remembered this pain. It was the same one she felt on the battlefield.

’Why is no one here?’ Princess Eleanor was confused. Her eyes turned red as she bit down on her lips. Her senses heightened as she looked around in fear. In her usual nightmares, she would see her brother fighting. A man would then come to save her. But right at this moment, everything was silent. Eerily silent. Nothing could be seen either and she felt like she was being pushed into deeper darkness.

"Hello.... Is someone there?" Princess Eleanor shouted in desperation, but she could only hear her own voice. It was as if her voice was echoing in that vast area. The pain was too overbearing and she opened her eyes wider in an attempt to see something... anything.

Suddenly, Princess Eleanor started feeling suffocated. Her breathing rate increased as her eyes widened in shock. She felt like someone was choking her.

Princess Eleanor’s hand clawed at her neck, trying to remove the unknown thing that was choking her. But she then clearly felt hands wrapping around her neck as the fingers tightened further.

"Ple.... Please..." Tears started forming in her eyes as she struggled, but soon she saw the hands clearly. A strong force was bearing down on her as she fell to the ground. She moved her body around, struggling to get up. But the force pushing her down kept on increasing.

"You thought I would leave you alone?" A sarcastic voice said with a laugh, "I will come for you next, my dear friend."

The person soon became clearer like a ghost emerging from the darkness. The man’s eyes were filled with madness. Although he was her childhood friend, but currently, he was like a completely different person who wore the mask of Duke Felix.

’Why...?!" Princess Eleanor managed to choke out, only to be laughed at. Duke Felix’s face was filled with a dark aura as if he was ready to kill. It seemed as though he was ready to attack and see her blood spilled.

Was he really the friend she had always known? The question kept on troubling her. He did have a face similar to Duke Felix but the man’s heart was black. As if all he knew was to kill and devour everything and anything that he wished for.

"Why didn’t you die?" The man snarled with narrowed eyes. "But don’t worry, you will not stay alive for long."

His hold on her neck increased as he pushed down harder. Princess Eleanor could feel herself losing her breath as her vision blurred.

"Huff... huff...." Princess Eleanor was breathing heavily as she looked around. The room was dark but she could see the outline of things. The moon was shining brightly outside as she took in a few deep breaths. Her hand moved up, only to feel her forehead wet with sweat.

"It was a dream..." Princess Eleanor murmured to herself. Her breathing was still chaotic. Although she knew that what she had experienced was only a dream she could not bring herself to calm down. It still felt all too real to her. So real that for a second there, she thought that her childhood best friend wanted to kill her with his own hands.

"Maybe it will not remain a dream forever. Maybe it might turn into reality soon..." Princess Eleanor’s voice was soft as she talked to herself.

Her eyes scanned the room as she got out of bed. She could not remember when she dropped off to sleep. All she remembered was her crying in Sir Kit’s arms. ’Maybe I fell asleep and he moved me here. But where is he?’

Princess Eleanor walked towards the table and poured herself a glass of water. She was feeling better now as she walked towards the window. Moving the curtains aside, she looked out to see the clear sky. Although it was still in the early hours of the morning, Princess Eleanor could already see the golden streaks of the sun lightening the sky.

"It is already morning?" Princess Eleanor said as she sighed. She knew that today was going to be a hectic day. Today she would have to attend a ball where Priest Erasmus will declare her as the chosen one. "I forgot to tell Christopher about that." Princess Eleanor remembered.

It was only now that she realized she had been so preoccupied yesterday, that she forgot to inform him of something so important. "What should I do? Should I write him a letter?" Princess Eleanor turned around as she walked towards the table in a hurry. Her eyes looked to the side as she tried to look for a paper and pen, but there was none. "Maybe I should ask Lady Gisella..."

"Ask her what?" A voice spoke up, making Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats quicken again. She had just managed to calm down, and now she was feeling a wave of shock.

"You love to frighten me, don’t you?" Princess Eleanor asked as she turned around to face Sir Kit who was standing at the window she had just stood at a few seconds before.

"I saw the curtains drawn, so I came in. Does the Princess want me to enter through the front door?" Sir Kit asked as he walked towards the Princess, wrapping his arms around her. He looked down at her only to see her eyes still moist. "You cried?"

Princess Eleanor sighed as she closed her eyes and nodded. "I had a nightmare."

"I should have stayed on." Sir Kit said as he tipped Princess Eleanor’s chin to make her look at him. "It was my mistake."

Sir Kit bent down and he kissed her lips softly. It was actually a simple peck, but it held a lot of emotions.

"Christopher..." Princess Eleanor said in a soft tone, making Sir Kit smile. He teeth bit on her lips before diving in for a deeper kiss, making Princess Eleanor open her lips wider to his intrusion. Her tongue moved around as if trying to ease the pain.

Soon the kiss ended, making Princess Eleanor relax a little. "Where did you go?"

Sir Kit noticed how the Princess hugged his body as she rested her head on his chest. Although they were standing, they were comfortable. "I went to meet Lady Gisella. I did not know the Princess had to suffer on her first day here."

"There was no suffering. Only a jealous woman who did not know better." Princess Eleanor shook her head. The soft swishing of her hair made Sir Kit feel ticklish as he chucked.

"Yes. Princess Eleanor does not have to deal with such people. I will make sure to deal with them."

Princess Eleanor was silent as she closed her eyes. The nightmare was still vivid in her mind, but she felt much better now. Was it because the man she loved was near her? Princess Eleanor could not care less. She just smiled as she moved a little away as she looked at Sir Kit with a serious gaze.

"The ball will be held tomorrow." Princess Eleanor informed. "I don’t know what the Crown Prince is planning, but I am sure Priest Erasmus will declare the chosen one tonight."

Sir Kit nodded his head. "Lady Gisella has informed me of this. The Princess does not have to worry about anything."

"How can you say that?" Princess Eleanor exclaimed in a panic. Although I have decided to not choose the Crown Prince as my partner, I cannot reject him in front of everyone. I need to have a concrete reason why I am rejecting a person."

Sir Kit laughed as he touched Princess Eleanor’s cheeks. He knew that the Princess was strong and powerful, but there were times when she was clumsy and scared. Maybe she was the type who would overthink a situation and would feel scared until she actually acted on them before realizing that she was worried for no reason.

"The Princess will be named as the chosen one by the High Priest, but you will not be asked to choose your partner right away. The situation will take an interesting turn and I hope the Princess will enjoy the turn of events."
