The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 240 - 237
Princess Vida was sitting silently in her room, pondering on many things that were on her mind. The sun was about to brighten the sky, but contrary to that, her heart was filled with darkness and many unexpected things.
Princess Vida had always thought of pushing the blame on her lady-in-waiting. Although she had a smile on her face, there was a constant fear of the unknown.
’It was too easy to fool Kelly. Did she really think that I would take her side and fight for her?’ Princess Vida thought in derision as she shook her head. ’Even such a simple task, she still could not do it properly. If she had managed to ensure that Princess Eleanor was properly infected and poisoned when we were in the temple, this wouldn’t have happened.’
Princess Vida still remembered the cream she had given to Princess Eleanor. The attack on the carriage was done by her but she never wanted to harm the Princess so much. But someone else also had wanted to take care of Princess Eleanor and it was a win-win situation for her, so Princess Vida did not mind. ’If only Kelly had made sure that Princess Eleanor had applied the cream and got poisoned then she would never have recovered at all.’
Princess Vida sighed. It was all in the past and she had to take care of her future now. Her dream was to get the position that Princess Eleanor had and so she manipulated her lady-in-waiting. Princess Vida was frustrated by her working style as well, so it was a good situation for her. She would put all the blame on Kelly and Princess Eleanor will die. After all, she could also claim to be born on the day mentioned in the prophecy and her parents had already made sure to hide the real information of her birth date.
Princess Vida also had thought to send out rumors that it might even be the will of God that he wanted Princess Eleanor to die as the people had misinterpreted the prophecy and acknowledged the wrong Princess.
"All I need to do is wait for Princess Eleanor to die." Princess Vida murmured under her breath.
"Too bad. That would never happen in this lifetime." A dangerously low voice spoke up from behind Princess Vida, making her heart jump in fright. Her breathing increased as she swallowed hard. Princess Vida could not understand what was happening. How was the man behind her?
Princess Vida bit her lips as she took in a deep breath and turned her head a little, only to realize that it was already too late. The man was right behind, looking down at her with an evil smile.
Princess Vida remembered who this man was. Was this not the Grand Duke who claimed to be the First Prince? Princess Vida did not understand what to make of the situation. Why was he here looking for her? And more importantly, why was he so angry?! Her eyes were wide as she tried to control her racing heartbeats.
She stood as she took a step back. Princess Vida wanted to create as much distance as possible between them subconsciously. She did not know what the other party would do, but she knew that if the man was here so early in the morning, coming through the window, it was definitely not a good thing.
"Gra... Grand Du... Duke...." Princess Vida said in a trembling voice. There were tears brimming in her eyes as she saw the man coming towards her. "Why didn’t you... co...come through... the door..." There was a slight tremble in her voice even though Princess Vida was trying hard to control it.
"Why? Are you afraid that I would do something to you?" Grand Duke Christopher asked as he raised his eyebrows. His meaning was clear. He really was here to do something to her!
"N...No..." Princess Vida shook her head as she tried to smile, but her already pale face was making her look funny. Princess Vida looked around. She was sure that the soldiers were outside. She would only need to shout out loud and they would come to rescue her once she shouted.
Grand Duke Christopher understood what Princess Vida was about to do. There was a slight sparkle in his eyes. ’You are too easy to read. And you think to take Eleanor’s position with that little and dull-witted brain of yours? You can’t even hide your thoughts from your enemy.’ Grand Fuke Christopher sneered in his mind as he smiled innocently at her, taking one final step towards Princess Vida and stood right before her.
"Does Princess Vida know what I am claiming to be?" Grand Duke Christopher asked. His hands were clasped behind his back as if he was looking down on Princess Vida. His eyes were captivating enough to make her ignore all the other things surrounding him, apart from his face.
Princess Vida nodded her head. "You are the First Prince..."
"Correct." Grand Duke Christopher laughed as if he had heard a joke. The shine in his eyes was bright. "And I had taken this step because the one I love wants to be the Empress. And I want to see her become one. I want her to sit on the throne and do whatever she wants."
Princess Vida swallowed hard. Was this the Grand Duke’s way of telling her that no matter what she does, she will not be able to be the future Empress?
"I have taken such steps for my love. So do you really think that I will let the one who hurt her escape?" Grand Duke Christopher’s lips curled up dangerously. His thoughts were clear as day and he no longer wished to hide them.
"What... what does tha...that mean?" Princess Vida’s head was buzzing. She wanted to believe her ears, but she was afraid to come to any conclusion. Did the Grand Duke’s words not indirectly tell her that he would kill the people who hurt his beloved? But the question remained. Who was his beloved?
Grand Duke Christopher tilted his head as his eyes narrowed. He took one final step forward as he pushed Princess Vida against the wall with his hand over her mouth. He could see the gears in her mind turn as she tried to figure out who that beloved woman of his was. Sneering at how slow her brain works, he thought that she could not even compare to his beloved Eleanor. Princess Vida was not even worthy to be compared to Princess Eleanor’s little toe. And here she was, dreaming big about being the Empress? Dream on!
Princess Vida’s eyes widened as she struggled hard, feeling the man’s hand pressing down tighter around her mouth. His fingers were also partially blocking her nose. Her breathing was rapid but she could not get much oxygen. Grand Duke Christopher’s strength made Princess Vida breathless. Her eyes were bulging as she tried to move the man’s hand away from her mouth. She wanted to shout for help but no matter what she did, Princess Vida could not do anything.
"You should have thought twice before you let that little lady of yours attack Princess Eleanor." Grand Duke Christopher’s tone was low. "There are some things that should never be crossed and yet you dare do it. You tried to kill the one I want to protect. You tried to take my life away from me, so I will return the favor. I will make you die the same way you wanted her to die. But for you, I will make it 100 times worse." And an evil smile curved his lips.
Grand Duke Christopher did not waste any more time as he took the glass piece and shoved it directly into Princess Vida’s chest, not missing the actual point. "Your lady-in-waiting was a little afraid when she attacked. So she missed the critical point. And I am extremely happy to inform you that Princess Eleanor is just unconscious now and will open her eyes soon." Grand Duke Christopher leaned down as his eyes darkened. "But I might not be able to say so for you."
Grand Duke Christopher pulled the glass piece out from her chest in a rough movement. Princess Vida was weak due to the blood loss and suffocation and soon she collapsed on the floor. There was already a large pool of blood below her as Princess Vida tried to open her mouth and shout. But nothing except a faint whisper came out. Soon her eyes blurred and she lost consciousness. The room soon fell silent but Grand Duke Christopher was not done yet. He knew that it would take some time for Princess Vida to die and he was determined to make it as painful as possible for her.
’Lady Gisella said that Princess Vida had tried to poison Princess Eleanor.’ Grand Duke Christopher thought as he narrowed his eyes before removing the small bottle from his pocket. It was a deadly poison that Doctor Raul had made, enough to make a person’s body be riddled with pain.
Grand Duke Christopher bent down as he held Princess Vida’s chin, forcing her to look at him. As she had no strength left in her body, Duke Christopher pressed down on her cheeks, making Princess Vida’s mouth open. Grand Duke Christopher did not waste any more time as he poured the content of the bottle into her mouth before clamping her mouth shut, ensuring that she swallowed the entire thing. Once he was sure that Princess Vida was poisoned, Grand Duke Christopher got up and he walked towards the window. He made sure that he did not leave any evidence of him ever being in the room behind.
His eyes looked back at Princess Vida’s slumped over form one last time. Her body was lying on the floor with blood pooling under her. He shook his head in disappointment as he disappeared from sight.
Princess Vida was motionless but she still had her mind working. She could feel that something was fed to her which was now causing a burning sensation in her throat.
Princess Vida did not know how much time had passed, but soon she felt like thousands of knives stabbing her body. She wanted to scream, but she somehow could not. There was no way she could fight it and soon she lost consciousness.
