Chapter 254: Chapter 254

[ALPHA DOMINIC’s Point of View]

I would protect her with my life.

No matter what the cost, I would make sure Samantha and the kids survive.

My wolf and I agreed on the only thing that was running in my head. That even if I get killed in the process of discovering all these things that we need to figure out how to defeat the enemies of my pack, I would never think twice of sacrificing my life for my family.

I watched so many times how Samantha and the kids tried to survive death. I had defied death so many times already just to prove my love for them.

And I hoped Samantha felt that.

I hope she realized they are my world.

Breathing hard, I looked down at my wife, seeing that frightened look on her face. I wrapped my arms around her tighter, letting her know that I was there to protect her no matter what, and she lifted her face to stare into my hazel eyes. At first, I felt my heart skip a beat. I was nervous. I wasn’t sure what she was thinking at that moment. But that softness on her face made me want to believe that she needed me, too.

“Dominic, I’m fine...” she whispered to me as she averted her eyes, and I thought my heart sank deep into my stomach. It was an uncomfortable feeling that usually would piss me off, but I decided to calm down and understand that maybe she needed a little more time to get what she really wanted. And I would give her all the time she needed and prove to her that I wouldn’t go anywhere.

“Yeah... Are you hurt?” I asked, pushing the large debris on my back with a groan and a wince as I checked if she had gotten any injuries.

“No... Thank you.” Samantha gave me a short, awkward smile as she stood and stepped away from me while brushing the dust off her shoulders and her clothes.

I saw Killian look at me and at her and then approach my wife and help her brush away the dust on the top of her head, which made my jaw stiffen. All I wanted was to punch him straight in the face and growl at him to never lay a finger on my wife. But then I decided to just stay silent and play it cool.

My anger would never help me with my relationship with my wife. It was just hard seeing her with Killian hovering around her. I hated that MoonStone Alpha with every fiber of my being, even after he saved me just to make him look good in Samantha’s eyes.

Killian was up to something; I could feel it. I still had no proof of what he wanted from my wife, but I was watching. I would find out what he’s planning. I would never let him do whatever the hell he wanted.

The three of us looked around. The tunnel behind Killian had so many spikes that it would be impossible to go back to my mother’s room anymore. So the option we had was to look forward and find out where the other side of the tunnel would lead us.

I couldn’t explain to my wife or to the MoonStone Alpha what I know about this place. I couldn’t tell them that this place had only given me nightmares as a child, with shadowy werewolves appearing like ghosts and terrorizing me in the middle of my dreams.

Even at that moment, as we continued walking deeper into the tunnel, the eerie coldness of the place brought back the nightmares.

“Did you hear that?” Killian hissed under his breath, but no matter how he tried to lower his voice, it still echoed on the walls of the cave-like tunnel. ‘There’s something ahead of us. Something like ringing?”

I frowned, trying to hear what he was saying, and then my eyes widened a bit. He was right. Something was ringing from the distance. And the closer we got to it, the more I thought it was some kind of alarm blaring. A warning? From what?

We had no other choice but to run at the urgency of the noise and finally reached the other side of the tunnel. I squinted from the dazzling light of the sun and realized it was already morning when we got out! I got confused because it was nighttime when we entered the tunnel. Did the time fly fast while we were inside!? Was it like the caves from before, where Samantha and I got trapped?

“STOP! DON’T YOU DARE TAKE A SINGLE STEP TOWARDS HERE!”

The shout that was full of rage and fear distracted me, and I noticed the bodies that were lying on the ground before I lifted my eyes and saw a pack of Black Claws accompanied by Shadow Werewolves snarling behind them. What caught my attention, though, was the man wearing all black and holding a child! A civilian boy.

“Who are these people?” Samantha hissed with dread as she looked around. Five dead people. Probably campers? Travellers? Who the f*ck would camp in the middle of the Black Forest!?

I glared at the leader of the enemy’s small pack and snarled. “Let go of the boy, coward!”

He smirked and then laughed manically as he held the boy even tighter, his arms around the poor kid’s neck, who was struggling from his violent grip. “These idiots think they can go around camping in this place like it is theirs! Why do you think I would let this kid go? He has to face the consequences of trespassing on my territory!”

“Ha!” Killian answered, his fists on his hips as he gave the leader of the pack an amused grin. “Your territory? As far as I know, no pack owns the boundary of the Black Forest! This place belongs to the spirits of this place! You must be hallucinating right now, brother.”

“I am not your brother!” The man spat at Killian and then glared at us three. “But I will appreciate it more if you give me the Moonlight Mirror and the Luna of the Silver Crescent pack in exchange for the life of this innocent boy!”

My eyes widened with dread at his words, and then I turned my head slightly towards Samantha, shaking it to indicate that the man would have to kill me first before I would allow them to take her.

Samantha, on the other hand, remained inside the tunnel, hidden under the shadows of it. Killian’s face grew worried as well. Until what we feared happened.

Samantha, despite my warning glare, stepped out of the tunnel cave and then threw a piercing glare at the man. Upon seeing her, the man’s smirk grew wider, looking so amused to watch his target walk toward him willingly.

“Let the cub go, and I will go with you,” Samantha murmured under her breath with a sharpness that could kill someone.

“No! You are not going with them!” I snarled at her. “This is not the plan, Samantha!”

“I guess that plan doesn’t matter anymore,” she answered with a stoic look on her face. “I won’t let that man kill the child, Dominic! His folks are probably stupid to go into this place, but the kid doesn’t know anything about what is happening! He doesn’t deserve to die! I won’t let that happen!”

No. I wouldn’t let her do it! “You can’t go with them, Samantha! I will never let you! We will find a way, godd*mnit!”

She stared at me with softness in her eyes as if trying to read the emotions that swam in my hazel ones. I slightly tightened my grip around her wrist, wanting her to know that no matter what. I wouldn’t let her sacrifice herself even if it meant it would save a child.

Yeah, I was the *sshole for thinking that way. But I would rather be the bad guy than watch my wife in the hands of my enemies!

“We have no other choice,” she said to me with teary eyes. “If it’s Devon or Diana, would you let me save them instead? Look at that poor little boy, Dominic. He’s terrified as hell. He’s shaking. And we need to do something to save this poor child. I won’t let them kill him.”

“I will go with you then.” Killian grabbed Samantha’s shoulder, which suddenly made my head pound. My anger surged to the surface, causing my eyes to glint red.

“Take your f*cking hands away from her, Killian. I warned you already,” I hissed at him.

Killian didn’t flinch, which made me more f*cking annoyed. He just stared at me as if he were testing my patience. As if he enjoyed seeing the rage on my face. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

“It looks like you haven’t decided yet!” the man shouted at the three of us as he bared his teeth, his arms almost choking the poor child, and I thought my heart had shattered as I saw the terrified face of the boy.

Samantha was right. If it were Devon or Diana, I wouldn’t stop her from saving my twins.

Guilt struck me like a cold knife in my gut. Killian saw me let go of Samantha’s wrist, and he frowned.

“We can’t be reckless now,” he hissed at me and then at Samantha as if weighing the danger we were facing. It looked as if he realized that we couldn’t really let Samantha go with the enemies. He must have thought that I had already given up on stopping her, and it terrified him.

He added, “The cursed shifters are afraid of the full moon. We will attack and save the kid when the full moon comes. I realize we can’t risk you falling into the hands of the enemies. Think about Diana and Devon, Sam!”

The man in black, who was getting impatient with us, spat on the ground and then growled. He knew he couldn’t force Samantha to go with them. His force wasn’t strong enough to defeat me and the MoonStone Alpha.

“If you won’t surrender the Luna of the Silver Crescent Pack and the Moonlight Mirror by the full moon, then you will not see this child alive!”

“Please, help me...” The child’s face was filled with tears. His eyes were pleading when he looked at all three of us.

To our surprise, something exploded, and a cloud of black smoke filled the whole place. When the place was cleared of it, the Black Claws, the Shadow Werewolves, and the child were already gone.

“I couldn’t hide forever, Dominic,” Samantha said to me with sorrow on her face, worried for the poor child in the hands of the enemies. “I have to face them and fight, too. You can’t protect me forever.”
