The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 165: Any confirmation?
Elder Zhang was sitting with Caishen outside under a tree when Alix returned. She didn't see them but they saw her and they noticed her hurried movement.
"Your wife has returned." The elder said.
Caishen was not sure why his grandfather felt the need to mention it outright as they had both seen her returning. But, like a good grandson, he responded appropriately.
"Yes." Just one word.
His grandfather looked at him with a contemplative look in his eyes. He and Caishen had just discussed the two new business opportunities Alix had brought to Zhang construction. The elder was very impressed.
It had never crossed his mind that she would ever contribute financially to the Zhang family in any way. So, when it fell into his ears that she had indirectly brought business worth hundreds of millions their way, he adored her even more.
"How serious is elder Tai about adopting her as a granddaughter?" he asked Caishen.
"Very." Caishen answered.
Elder Zhang tapped the table with his walking cane twice and scowled at Caishen. "Why are all your responses singular words? Can't you speak properly?"
Caishen laughed. "Sorry, grandpa. I will speak properly." he answered.
Elder Zhang nodded and repeated his question seriously. "How serious is he? Has he discussed any plans of making it official?"
Caishen couldn't fathom why his grandfather was interested in the relationship between elder Tai and Alix. It was a matter between Alix and elder Tai until she chose to involve them. Still, he replied.
"He wants us to go over for a formal visit tomorrow so that he can introduce her to the rest of his family. When he paid me a visit, he even hinted at possibly convincing her to change her surname from Lin to Tai."
Elder Zhang gasped. The walking cane which was in his right hand fell down to the ground. Caishen moved his wheelchair, bent down and picked it up.
Elder Zhang's hand trembled as he accepted it and placed it on the table, besides the white porcelain cup of warm rock tea.

He touched the cup but made no move to send it to his lips. He simply rotated it slowly on the saucer, as he thought in silence.
In his mind, elder Zhang calculated the pros and cons of Alix becoming entangled with the Tai family. The biggest pros were their Zhang family gaining a strong economic tie and Alix getting more family that liked her. The biggest con was the public perception if she changed her name from Lin to Tai. But, the Lin's had never been good to Alix so why should she be true or considerate to them?
"What are you thinking?" Caishen asked his grandfather.
Elder Zhang let go of the cup, took a deep breath and said, "I think you should both go for the formal meal and test the waters first. You need to first see the attitude of the rest of the Tai's personally and judge for yourself. She has just escaped the jaws of the tiger in the Lin family so we should not rush her into willingly entering the jaws of a shark."
Elder Zhang however would be making a personal call to elder Tai to see where the old man's mind was.
A maid walked out of the house and approached the table.
"Elder, young master, the young madam has sent over these apple slices." she said.
She placed down a tray with two bowls and perfectly sliced green apples.
When she left, elder Zhang picked up one of the slices with a toothpick.
"Mmm," he said in surprise.
Caishen guessed that this was from the same batch she had sent the Tai elders and given Tai Ho Sun.
He imitated his grandfather's actions and sent an apple slice to his mouth.
"Mmm," he had the same exact reaction as his grandfather.
Green apples were not the tastiest apples in the market but these ones were sweeter than the normal ones. They were even sweeter than red and yellow apples.
"These are tasty." elder Zhang said, reaching for another slice.
Caishen nodded, completely agreeing. If he had known that the apples were this tasty, he would have fought hard for Tai Ho Sun not to get one.
Elder Zhang voiced a realization which he had come to in the last few seconds. "Now that I think about it, that milk she sent us is also tasty. When I drink it before bed I fall asleep easily and my body doesn't ache when I wake up in the morning. It's the same for your grandmother."
Caishen wondered if that was why Alix insisted that he always drink a glass of that milk before bed. Even Xiaobo had to drink it.
"By the way, have you heard anything else about your father, Zhang Xian? Is there positive confirmation of his identity?" His grandfather asked, suddenly.
This was a topic none of them had dared to unpack ever since that day in the study. They were all afraid to touch it as if it was an invisible ghost hovering over them.
His grandfather was now using his father's name to refer to the man. For him the conclusion had been made, that was his son.
"Mo Sen is still trying to get DNA samples of all three family members." Caishen replied.
The elder frowned. This answer was not satisfactory to his ears. "Mo Sen is taking too long to find answers. If he is not capable enough I can lend you Ju-long. Or better still yet, get Jacob and his team on it. They will find answers much faster than Mo Sen who moves in the dark."
Ju-long was his grandfather's personal bodyguard. Also, the head of security for the main branch of the Zhang family. He was a former captain in the army with many connections and he could get things done quickly whenever he was asked to.
"No," Caishen responded, strongly. "This news needs to stay between us for now. Imagine the turmoil which will follow if such news comes to light. The stocks of Zhang group will fluctuate, the two branches might also be stirred up. We do not need to rush for any reason because we still need to figure a few things out."
Elder Zhang already knew what was worrying Caishen and Bo. It was the fact that their father had another wife and child. The family dynamics were sure to become complicated and knotted when he returned.
But, even though he was aware of this, elder Zhang's hands were tied. He had just one son and he was unwilling to give up on that one son. The other woman would have to be paid off or compensated. Maybe that will be enough to satisfy her and she will go away.
As soon as that confirmation came, he would discuss with his wife all the ways in which they would remove the excess branches and restore the perfect family.
Elder Zhang looked at his wrinkled hand and he shook his head. Time was not on his side. At his age, every single day that passed brought him closer to the grave. He needed answers urgently.
He looked at Caishen and said, "Use Jacob's team, if he is Zhang Xian it will all come out at the end of the day so this hide and seek is for nothing."
In his voice was a finality which Caishen was familiar with. His grandfather was giving him an order, not making a request. So, he nodded.
Elder Zhang assumed he had sealed that topic so he moved on to something else. "Tell me about what the doctor said concerning your legs. How long will it take you to stand up?"
