Chapter 75: Rie-diculous (75)

With a clear idea of where to head next...

Koko took the lead, guiding the whole Link toward the forest.

"Argh... finally, we’re here," Koko said as she climbed down from the horse.

"Arg... finally, we’re here," she said, sliding down from the horse.

Thud.

She patted the horse’s neck. "Thank you... err??"

Her eyes flicked to Ahrie for a second.

Then slowly turned toward the readers.

"You guys still haven’t submitted any names for this horse yet," she pouted, crossing her arms. "Come onnn."

Min and Ahrie exchanged a quick look.

Then they slowly looked around.

Left.

Right.

Behind them.

They glanced around—trees, dirt... There was absolutely no one there.

"She’s talking to herself again..." Min muttered under his breath.

"Yeah..." Ahrie sighed. "Just don’t mind her."

They kept walking and stepped into the forest without another word.

"Oii—wait up!" Koko grumbled, jogging to catch up.

Rocky squeaked from her hair as she hurried after them.

Soon enough—

All three of them disappeared into the forest.

About five minutes into the forest...

Something rustled.

The bushes suddenly rustled.

Something moved.

The entire Link froze.

Koko and Min yanked out their daggers fast.

Ahrie unsheathed his rapier with a sharp shing.

Then he spread his arms wide like some dramatic stage actor.

"FINAAALLLYYY!" he shouted, grinning like a maniac.

Ahrie had been waiting for this moment since they left the capital.

Without hesitation, he rushed straight toward the moving bush and began slashing wildly.

Grass flew everywhere.

Leaves scattered across the ground.

"Oh my..." Koko muttered, eyes wide.

Rocky slapped his paws over his tiny eyes.

"Hoho..." Min said, smirking.

Then—

Ahrie slowly stopped.

"Urk..."

His shoulders slumped in disappointment.

Inside the bush were two wolves.

Normal looking wolves.

One on top of the other.

They were... doing that thing...

You know.

The thing that makes babies.

Yeah.

No need to go into details.

The wolf on top suddenly yelped in distress.

"Yea... yea... my bad, dawg," Ahrie muttered, scratching his neck. "You guys can continue. Carry on."

Trying to fix the situation for some reason, Ahrie gathered the grass he had just cut down and tried to cover the two wolves.

Like giving them privacy.

But the moment the grass touched them—

Both wolves jumped away instantly.

Apparently one of the grasses had spiky thorns hidden in it.

"Oh... look," Ahrie said, holding one up.

A thin, nasty-looking spike poked out from the stem.

He turned around to show Min and the others.

"See this?" he said casually.

The two wolves bared their fangs and charged straight at Ahrie.

The first one leaped, aiming for his neck from behind—fast, jaws wide.

But before it could reach him—

Clink.

Ahrie casually flipped the rapier behind his back in one smooth motion, angled the blade just enough to block the bite.

The wolf’s teeth clacked uselessly against steel.

Ahrie slowly turned his head, glancing over his shoulder.

Then he stepped forward and lowered into a proper fighting stance.

"These two are mine," Ahrie muttered.

The second wolf growled.

Then it lifted its head and let out a loud howl.

Awooooo—

Three more wolves burst from the underbrush, eyes glowing, joining the pack.

Now there were five.

Ahrie tilted his head toward Min just a little.

"...I misspoke," he said, a big stupid smile spreading across his face.

Min grinned back, cracking his knuckles. He was already itching for a fight.

"I guess we don’t have a choice but to hel—"

"I’ll take all five," Ahrie cut in, still smiling

Min froze for half a second.

Then his grin came back wider.

"This battle-maniac bastard," he said, shaking his head.

"Welp... nothing I can do about that," Min muttered. He stepped back, lowering his dagger.

Koko gave a small nod beside him and followed.

The two of them moved aside—

leaving Ahrie alone.

From the Ent’s little office space...

Ahrie’s Ent leaned back in his chair, feet up on the desk, munching on some glowing root chips.

A cluster of sprouts hovered around his screen like excited chat popping off in real time.

"Well, well, well... sprouts," the Ent said, folding his hands. "What do you think of this situation?"

Messages started popping up.

Sprout #03 – Essos: "Is that really a wolf? Why does it look kinda... roundy?"

Sprout #01 – Hypergyphon: "What do you mean roundy? Like fat or just weird?"

A new icon pinged.

Sprout #04 – Judy_wilcox joined the stream.

The Ent snorted. "Yo Judy, perfect timing. Ahrie’s about to solo a pack of these... uh... what the hell are they called again?"

He flipped open the monster logbook lazily.

"Ahhh... there it is."

Ahrie’s Ent tapped the page of the logbook and read aloud.

[Monster Data]

Name: Ironhide Wolf

Rarity: Common

Type: Guardian / Brute

Threat Level: E+

Description:

At first glance, an ordinary wolf—perhaps a bit rounder, softer in the belly. Thick fur, warm eyes, almost approachable. But when threatened, its body tenses, fur bristles, and the hide beneath darkens and hardens into a metallic grey, giving it the unmistakable look and density of forged iron.

Abilities:

Iron Hide (Defensive Trigger): The wolf’s signature trait. Upon sensing danger, it can flash-harden its skin to iron-like durability for short bursts.

Crushing Weight: When hardened, the wolf’s round body becomes dense and heavy. It can slam into threats with tremendous force.

"Well I’ll be damn..." Ahrie’s Ent muttered.

His eyes shifted back to the stream where five of the wolves were circling Ahrie.

"Can he take down those five fuckers..."

Messages immediately popped up.

Sprout #02 – Linnene: "He will."

Sprout #03 – Essos: "Let’s go!"

"Now that we’re at it... let’s welcome the new ones," Ahrie’s Ent said.

Chat began lighting up.

Sprout #02 – Linnene:

"Welcome."

Sprout #01 – Hypergyphon:

"Welcome!"

Sprout #03 – Essos:

"Yooo!"

Sprout #04 – Judy_wilcox:

"Thank you guys..."

The Ent straightened up, cleared his throat dramatically.

"Brace yourselves... ladies and gentlemen... for what Ahrie... would do..."

He struck a big over-the-top pose—arms wide, head tilted back like some cheesy announcer.

Sprout #02 – Linnene: "pff"

Sprout #04 – Judy_wilcox: "pfff"

Sprout #01 – Hypergyphon: "lol"

Meanwhile on the screen—

Ahrie did absolutely nothing.

Just stood there.

"...."

Ahrie’s Ent slowly lowered his arm.

His face stiffened in embarrassment.

Fuck... Rie you did me dirty there, he muttered internally.

Then—

"Cough... cough..."

"Ahem."

"Let’s take a quick break from me."

He bolted out of his chair, shoved the door open, and speed-walked straight to the cafeteria—snacks were the only thing that could save his dignity right now.

"Now that those bullshits are out of the way..."

Ahrie rolled his shoulders and looked around.

"What should I do with you guys?"

The five Ironhide Wolves were already circling him—slow, low growls, eyes locked, fur starting to bristle like they knew shit was about to get real.

Ahrie stared at them one by one.

One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

Five.

Then he slowly closed his eyes.

A second passed.

He opened them again.

His gaze locked onto one of the wolves.

The biggest one in the pack.

"I’ll take you down first."

The wolves tensed—muscles coiling, claws digging into dirt, ready to pounce.

But instead of charging—

Ahrie suddenly ran toward a nearby tree.

But instead of charging—

Ahrie suddenly ran toward a nearby tree.

Heads tilting. What the hell is he doing?

The wolves hesitated.

They relaxed a little, thinking he was retreating. Heads tilting. What the hell is he doing?

Then—boom.

Ahrie planted one foot on the tree trunk, used it like a springboard, and launched himself backward in a tight flip.

Right toward the pack.

He landed light in the middle of them.

"Hello..." he muttered

Rapier flashed forward in a clean thrust—straight at the biggest wolf’s chest.

The blade punched through fur before it could fully harden.

A wet crunch.

The wolf yelped, staggered, iron hide flickering too late.

Ahrie yanked the rapier free with a quick twist, already spinning toward the next one.

The pack snapped out of it—howls ripping through the trees.

As soon as one of them was defeated—

The remaining wolves became far more alert.

Their circling tightened.

Their eyes locked onto Ahrie.

As Ahrie lunged forward for another thrust—

The targeted wolf suddenly activated its skill.

[Iron Hide (Defensive Trigger)]

The wolf’s fur stiffened.

Its hide darkened into a metallic gray.

Cling.

Ahrie’s rapier was deflected.

The wolf immediately countered—ramming straight toward him while snapping its jaws and slashing with its claws.

Ahrie twisted midair.

Using the momentum, he lightly tapped the wolf’s head with his hand—

and pushed himself away from the attack.

Min let out a whistle.

"Damn..."

Koko watched with wide eyes.

She was genuinely amazed by Ahrie’s battle instincts.

Ahrie continued moving through the pack.

Dodging.

Blocking.

Counterattacking.

But every time his blade struck—

Cling.

It was deflected.

Then suddenly—

One wolf leaped high above him.

[Crushing Weight]

Its body hardened.

Then it dropped straight down toward Ahrie.

Ahrie rolled away just in time.

BLAG!

The wolf slammed into the ground.

A massive crack spread across the earth.

Ahrie stared at the impact spot.

"Whoa..." he muttered.
