This Life, I Will Be the Protagonist-Chapter 1110 Adjudicator Badge (BS)
Apache had also heard the world-spanning announcement that BS Adjudicator had arrived. The tension she had been holding onto for the past few months finally eased. It seemed that she had won again.
Kayden was already at the door, waiting. "Teacher, do you think she’ll come to see us?"
Apache, in a good mood, smiled and replied, "I don’t think so."
Though she had the ability to bring Mistblade, the Moon Queen, and Pine Bloom, the Owl King, to BS — a huge piece of news for Lania Kaia that was still a hot topic despite being months old — Apache knew that with her cautious personality, Rita wouldn’t come unless it was something major.
Just as she thought this, Kayden gasped. Apache turned toward the alchemy shop door and saw two cats approaching.
One was Calico, and the other was a cow-cat with black bangs splitting down the middle of its forehead.
The two cats sat down in front of Apache, not saying a word.
Suppressing a laugh, Apache crouched down, deciding to play along with the apprentice’s childish game. She gave them a serious look and said, "Hmm... Which one is my apprentice?"
Kayden immediately scooped up the cow-cat with golden eyes and raised it high. "This one!!!"
The cow-cat spoke, "Have you been staring at my Soulfire again?"
It turned to look at the Soulfire pattern behind it but found nothing.
Calico stared cautiously at the female undead, who was looking like she might grab it at any moment. It took a few steps back and said, "I’m going to check in. When it’s time to go back, you can just open the ship. I’ll return to the ship then."
By the time it said the second part, it had already jumped up, dodging Apache’s hand, and ran off.
Kayden said, "You don’t need to! There are so many petals flying behind you. Clearly, you’re not an ordinary cat."
Rita looked down at her legs and noticed that the Vine she had transferred there had dispersed into countless petals. The red part at the base of each petal had spread upwards, covering nearly half the petal.
She suddenly realized — this might be the first sign of her Vine blooming.
Several pale fingers brushed through the area where the petals were floating, and Rita immediately shifted to the side, moving away from Kayden and also avoiding Apache’s reaching hand.
Seeing Apache’s surprised gaze, the cow-cat quickly hid its back legs and explained, "It’s nothing."
It just felt uncomfortable. When the Vine was touched, it felt like fingers trailing down her spine, making her uneasy. No wonder Vineborne customs dictated that Vines should not be touched by anyone outside of battle unless they were deeply connected.
She hadn’t felt this way when experiencing the World Sigh.
Apache didn’t press further. She rarely dug into matters outside of alchemy, though she was certainly curious as to why a perfectly fine cat suddenly seemed so rattled.
To avoid a potential visit from Wither, Rita quickly stated her purpose. She asked, "Do you want to leave Lania Kaia? BS has now separated from the War Sequence. From now on... at least while I’m alive, there won’t be any wars."
Apache and Kayden were stunned into silence by this news. War had always been a part of their lives since birth.
Though Lania Kaia was mostly the invader, the effects of war were everywhere.
Just recently, Kayden had gone to donate blood, sacrificing 1% of her attributes to temporarily avoid going to the battlefield.
When the war ended, Lania Kaia would face another period of turmoil, with new races frequently clashing with the existing ones. Undead, in particular, would be viewed with hostility by the other races.
Apache, her expression complex, looked at the cow-cat and asked, "So Lania Kaia and BS..."
Rita nodded firmly, answering, "The war between Lania Kaia and BS is over."
After a long silence, Apache placed her hand on Kayden’s shoulder and gently pushed the little undead forward. "Take her away, I won’t go."
Rita wasn’t surprised by the answer.
She looked at Kayden. Sure enough, the latter refused as well.
Everyone hated war, feared it, but they loved their world. Lania Kaia was currently being invaded by Dawn, and as undead, how could they leave?
"I respect your decision." Rita left behind some resources and coins to help them, but Apache declined.
With a helpless tone, Apache said, "What makes you think a master alchemist and bestselling author like me would be lacking in coins?"
Rita ignored the latter title, put the coins away, and finally took out the [Fire Spirit Ring] she had gotten from the Tauren long ago, an item that could withstand a killing blow.
Looking at the Tauren relic hanging from the cow-cat’s paw and the sincere golden cat eyes, Apache crouched in front of the cow-cat and took its paw, saying, "I haven’t really helped you much, have I?"
She hadn’t spent much time teaching her apprentice potion-making. She didn’t know what had happened on that mysterious battlefield, where her enemy had soon escalated to the level of Mistblade, the Moon Queen, and even found its way to the alchemy shop.
Against such powerful foes, high-level potions were useless. Besides, the apprentice’s progress in potion-making had already surpassed hers...
But the apprentice had repaid her a hundredfold.
The cow-cat pulled its paw away and stubbornly, yet firmly, hung the delicate trinket around Apache’s neck. "But I like you, teacher, and respect you, not because you’ve been useful to me."
[You are being watched]...[You are being watched]...
The cow-cat suddenly squinted and smiled at Apache, saying, "You’re a hundred times better than my cooking teacher!"
Then, it stood up and bumped its head against the undead mentor’s chin before running off. As it passed by Kayden, it tossed a golden metal token to her. "If you run into trouble, wake it up, and tell them you’re a friend of BS Adjudicator."
[Adjudicator Badge] (BS): A token of BS Adjudicator. When infused with magic, the BS Adjudicator’s mark will shine above you, and their gaze will fall upon you, allowing them to use a skill on you remotely. (Can only be used once per natural day.)
She left one of these badges with Apache too.
...
[Foolishness]: "You’re a hundred times better than my cooking teacher."
[Deceitful Bloom]: Is Foolishness’s game collecting dust today? Yep.
[Foolishness]: I really don’t want to play with her.
[Deceitful Bloom]: I’ve always been playing the teacher.
[Ashveil]: Deceitful Bloom, stop playing around. Let me handle it.
[Foolishness]: ?
[Deceitful Bloom]: ... Then come on, let’s go.
[Ashveil]: I’ll think about it.
[Boiling Orange]: Does her Vine’s flower change to any other colors besides red?
[Ashveil]: It does. If she has this Vine during the Shrine Quiz, the Flower Crown Murder might turn black.
[Hearthsmoke]: Which side is Ashveil on, really?
[Boiling Orange]: Laughing so hard, he just likes Vineborne.
[Ashveil]: Deceitful Bloom, forget what he said.
[Deceitful Bloom]: ...
