This Young Master is not Cannon Fodder-Chapter 697: Seeking a Breakthrough
In truth, Gu Longyu and the other immortal emperors had already left Planet Madarchy. They didn’t use the Interplanetary Teleportation Array Outpost and leave a bomb behind. Rather, they destroyed it and hid in outer space.
In outer space, immortal sense could spread more freely, but it was also much larger, meaning that it would be difficult to discover them hiding, especially if they were inside an asteroid. They didn’t come alone either and brought all surviving members of the Death Defier Alliance with them in a mobile immortal grotto.
A mobile immortal grotto was a rare treasure even for the Ancient Sky Sect. Unfortunately, realm artifacts did not exist in the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance. At least, no one had heard of them, not even on the Xiyinet. Gu Longyu wasn’t sure if the Temple of Death had hoarded them, or if the disappearance of the three thousand realms also meant the disappearance of realm artifacts.
After hiding for a while, Gu Longyu reunited with Empress Wintersnow. She brought the interplanetary teleportation array and took the members of the Death Defier Alliance back to Planet Whitesky. Now, only the native denizens of Planet Madarchy remained.
Although they had the advanced methods granted to them by the Death Defier Alliance, it was still only a matter of time before they were defeated. The time depended on how long Xi Yinian and the remaining soul emperor took to realize that the Death Defier Alliance had left. And Planet Madarchy, without an immortal emperor of its own, could only wait for its eventual defeat. Even if they produced an immortal emperor, it would only be an early immortal emperor with only a ghost of a chance to defeat the soul emperor, much less Yinian, who possessed the combat power of an immortal sovereign.
Upon returning to Planet Whitesky, Gu Longyu didn’t plan to go out again—at least for a short time. He spent a day catching up with Empress Wintersnow before entering secluded cultivation, leaving the mother-and-daughter duo with an awkward atmosphere.
The encounter with Yinian gave him an unprecedented sense of crisis. Unknowingly, Gu Longyu judged the child he once disdained to be an even greater threat than the phantom Goddess of Death.
Gu Longyu was actually infinitely close to entering the Origin Immortal Realm. He majored in the Law of Destruction and had mastered the Law of Space, the Law of Life, the Law of Fire, the Law of Earth, the Law of Metal, the Law of Wood, and the Law of Water.
Although he started merging the Law of Space into the Law of Destruction, he actually fully merged the Law of Life into the Law of Destruction before completing the merger between the Law of Space and the Law of Destruction. Strictly speaking, his talent with the Law of Space was average at best, but Gu Longyu simply could not abandon the advantages the Law of Space brought him.
He also merged the Law of Fire, the Law of Earth, the Law of Wood, and the Law of Metal into the Law of Destruction. Strictly speaking, an immortal emperor only needed to merge a minimum of three laws into their primary law to gain the qualifications to step into the Origin Immortal Realm, but many immortal emperors could not step onto that level. Perhaps it was an imperfect merger or some other reason, but they would choose to merge more laws as an alternative method.
Gu Longyu was not such an immortal emperor. The reason he fused the five elemental laws was to increase the power of the Law of Destruction. Once he fused the Law of Water, he should be able to transform the five elemental laws into an elementary fusion of the Law of Five Phases.
He had different affinities for the five elemental laws, but his weakest affinity was undoubtedly the Law of Water. His talent for it was even worse than his affinity for the Law of Space.
Although Gu Longyu did his best, his progress was still slow, and he was unwilling to break through to the Origin Immortal Realm. Even before his rebirth, he never planned to be an ordinary immortal sovereign, especially with an opponent like Yinian. Even if Yinian entered the Origin Immortal Realm through the orthodox method of merging three laws into his primary law, he would still be able to display power beyond his realm.
Of course, Gu Longyu did not think Yinian would be able to possess the power of a divinity or even a half-divinity so easily.
Gu Longyu did not ponder this for long. Comprehension was the most important task for him. Strangely, he felt as if the Law of Water was exceptionally clear, as if the mist blocking it had vanished. It wasn’t just the Law of Water; all the other elemental laws became clearer as well. Under such conditions, the fusion points between the five elemental laws became clearer, much less merging the Law of Water with the Law of Destruction.
With such conditions, it couldn’t be described as twice the results with half the effort, but rather ten times the results with a tenth of the effort.
It was as if he had received a divine revelation!
While Gu Longyu cultivated, the behemoth known as the Death Defier Alliance did not stand idle. Although the number of immortals deployed to Planet Madarchy was not what they expected, it was barely enough. Especially after hearing the news that one of their immortal monarchs—now an immortal emperor—could display the power of an immortal sovereign. Killing two immortal emperors and trapping an immortal emperor with the combat potential of an immortal sovereign was enough.

The Death Defier Alliance launched several more operations to destroy the Interplanetary Teleportation Array Outposts on several planets. Without the interplanetary teleportation arrays, it became difficult for the Temple of Death to provide support to their subordinate forces and members stranded on each planet. The limited number of outposts the Temple of Death created to prevent rebels from seizing them and using the arrays against them became the very reason their deployments slowed down.
Of course, not all of the Death Defier Alliance’s operations to destroy the interplanetary teleportation arrays succeeded. This wasn’t like the contained skirmishes on Planet Madarchy; exposure was all but guaranteed. It was only a matter of time. After several confrontations, the members of the Death Defier Alliance revealed themselves.
The most prominent among them was undoubtedly the Ancient Sky Sect. Ignoring their god-killing arm, the number of emperors and sovereigns shocked the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance. Even all the forces on Planet Orchapple, the second planet to join the planetary alliance, could not rival the Ancient Sky Sect. Part of the reason was, of course, that almost all the top forces on Planet Whitesky were actually branches of the Ancient Sky Sect.
To achieve this feat without anyone realizing it, it must be said that the Ancient Sky Sect had planned for well over a million years.
After destroying the interplanetary teleportation arrays, most members of the Death Defier Alliance chose to attack hostile forces on their own planets. More often than not, members of the alliance had long surpassed the level of a top force on their planet, and further growth would result in a planetary war that would end in either them becoming the sole hegemon of the planet or their destruction.
Because it wouldn’t benefit the Temple of Death’s rule, the temple secretly sabotaged many of the top forces’ efforts. After all, once a force became the hegemon of a planet, its ambitions would grow even larger.
Not all members of the Death Defier Alliance launched a planetary unification war. Some actually reached a consensus with other forces on their planet, pulling them into the Death Defier Alliance. And it wasn’t just members of the alliance who launched wars of unification. Many forces that had long wanted to become hegemons of their planets but were restrained by the Temple of Death took action. Although they weren’t outwardly going against the Temple of Death, it still aided the Death Defier Alliance, albeit only slightly.
Because of such cases, only the forces that did not launch a unification war or expose themselves sent members to Planet Whitesky. Once there, they would form squads and be dispatched to fight the Temple of Death and its allies on various planets.
Of course, since the Death Defier Alliance could teleport to different planets using the old-style interplanetary teleportation arrays, the Temple of Death could too, as the originator of the interplanetary teleportation arrays. The only question was the method of teleportation. They could either teleport people directly to another planet or bring the interplanetary teleportation array along with them.
The first option made it difficult to return, as they would still need interplanetary teleportation arrays to teleport back. The second option also carried risks. If the Death Defier Alliance gained information about the interplanetary teleportation array, they would dispatch a large number of combatants to seize it by force, further enhancing the flexibility and speed of their deployments.
Naturally, the Temple of Death was on guard against such situations, especially after the Death Defier Alliance’s first few successes. Afterward, they would only arrive with the interplanetary teleportation arrays when the dispatched immortals needed to return. Granted, this greatly increased the chance of death for the dispatched immortals, but most of them were immortal monarchs and true immortals.
An acceptable loss.
As the war raged on, a name shone in the sky like a radiant star. It was none other than Xi Yinian. Although he was only an immortal emperor, he had routed countless immortal sovereigns from the Death Defier Alliance. He even killed one, causing his name to resound like thunder.
Of course, the slain immortal sovereign had awakened from suspended animation and was near death, but that still didn’t detract from the feat. If anything, those immortal sovereigns were more difficult to deal with. Their age placed them near the peak of their realm, and their proximity to death made them fearless, often trading injuries or their lives for a crucial blow.
With a sword in hand, even gods and demons could be slain. Thus, people respectfully addressed him as the Junior Sword God.
Although he was only an immortal emperor, he had the power of a peak immortal sovereign—so how powerful would he be once he became a true immortal sovereign? Of course, such words were only spread among the ignorant, and those at the Origin Immortal Realm scoffed at the idea that Yinian would possess the power of a half-divinity upon reaching that realm.
Still, considering that immortal monarchs and true immortals were among the ignorant, this sobriquet gained great recognition, even within the Temple of Death.
Gu Longyu, upon hearing this, finally couldn’t sit still anymore. It was not that Yinian’s presence made him unable to cultivate, but that he had reached a bottleneck. With the divine revelation-like comprehension, he successfully merged the Law of Water into the Law of Destruction. Even among immortal sovereigns, his power could be considered top-notch, but he was still clueless about how to fuse the five elemental laws into the Law of Five Phases.
Further comprehension was of no use. The only way Gu Longyu could think of breaking through was through a life-or-death battle.
He could find other immortal sovereigns for such a battle, but in Gu Longyu’s eyes, that would be avoiding Yinian’s edge. If he couldn’t even muster the courage to fight Yinian, what right did he have to continue on the immortal path?
So, Gu Longyu searched for Yinian’s location. The Death Defier Alliance readily gave it to him. After many operations, they had suffered countless defeats under Yinian’s sword. Many immortal sovereigns consciously avoided him, but they could not avoid him forever. In their eyes, Gu Longyu was comparable to Yinian, and his combat potential was only highly valued—not irreplaceable.
And so, Gu Longyu confronted Yinian once more.
