Chapter 83 - You're doing it again, sir

"Why do you have it out for my current relationship?" Yun-tae yelled, asking boldly and a bit fiercely too.

Woo-bin was surprised and even Yun-tae was taken aback. He closed his mouth, turned his face away, and quickly apologized,

"I... I'm sorry. I think I lost control of my emotions there." He said. "I just... Feel you're against my relationship for no reason and it bothers me."

"Well, I just feel it's not normal." Woo-bin said. "I mean, you come over two weekends in a row and not spend it with your lover, is that how kids these days normally date?" He scratched the back of his head. "If it is then pretend I didn't say that."

"Well," Yun-tae lowered his head.

They just began to date the previous week and he was certain Kang-woo would be around so they could hang out. But they wouldn't know.

"It's normal." He muttered, no courage to say that out loud.

"What was that?" Woo-bin moved his ear closer. "Where's that volume you had just now?" He asked in a tease and Yun-tae's face flushed. He didn't mean to yell that time. He didn't have to bring it up.

Woo-bin laughed.

"In any case," he patted Yun-tae's head. "I care for you because you are my little Hwa's friend who shares a similar stature as him." He laughed once more and Yun-tae pouted. Was he saying he was small? "You care for him too. And for you to sacrifice spending time with your lover during the weekends to spend time with my Hwa makes it very evident. And for that... I want you to be a part of my family."

He took his hand off and Yun-tae blushed. Yeah, he did care for Chin-hwa. More than he ever imagined.

He brushed his hair, subtly hiding his face.

"You're doing it again, sir." He said. "I already told you. I won't marry your son."

"Yeah, I know. I know." Woo-bin said and successfully handed him the card he had brought out of his pocket. "There's a number there but I'm not asking you to call it now. He's someone who..." He darted his eyes away for a moment, trying to get the right word, and then his lips curled up. "...knows how to take responsibility."

"Huh?" Yun-tae was confused. "Take responsibility? What does that mean? And..." He looked at the card. It was black and the number was written in gold ink.

Quite the fancy number card.

"Why would I need to call this number?"

"Well," Woo-bin tucked his hands into his sweatpants and turned to start walking away. "It's in case of an emergency. If things don't work out with your lover and there's an emergency... Just call them, kid. You'll thank me later."

Yun-tae was even more confused. But as he watched Woo-bin walk away, he stared at the card, wondering what kind of emergency could possibly emerge for him to call that number. Whoever it was.

And from the looks of things, it had something to do with him being an Omega since he talked about his partner. He pursed his lips and looked up.

"It's... Yun-tae." He said and Woo-bin stopped, glancing over his shoulder at him. "Sir." He added.

"I know your name." Woo-bin said.

"But you kept calling me kid." Yun-tae said, blinking in wonder. "I thought you forgot my name."

"I'm bad at remembering stuff, yeah, but not the name of the first friend my son brought home from school. You're one to remember, trust me." He cackled. "In fact, I thought you wanted me to keep calling you that since you didn't correct me earlier on. Guess I was wrong."

Yun-tae went silent. Did he... Really?

"Then, since you're uncomfortable with it, from now on, I'll..."

"No," Yun-tae said. "Just... Call me Kid. I... I think it sounds better than you calling me by my name." He said and though it came off as a surprise to Woo-bin, he did not complain.

"You know, most kids your age hate it when they're called 'kid', but you seem to enjoy being called that." Woo-bin said, turning around completely to face him. "Does this have something to do with your childhood?" He asked and Yun-tae's eyebrow twitched to Woo-bin's notice.

"Why... Why would it?" He asked and Woo-bin decided to drop the matter.

"Alright, my son's friend, Yun-tae," he said, approaching Yun-tae. "I will keep calling you a kid since that's what you want." He patted his head. "Now, I believe we've bought enough time for Hwa to leave his room and come eat. Let's go so you can help me set the plates."

"Y-yes," Yun-tae said and hurried after him, struggling to follow his long strides.

The reason he wanted to keep being called a kid was simple. He never got to 'be' a kid when he was a kid.

So, it was almost like a dream come through for someone like Woo-bin, a father, to treat him as a kid.

He wouldn't complain if he was being treated as a kid when he was in his early 20s because he always longed for their care. For that treatment.

Growing up with a father like his who wanted him to grow up faster so he would live off him was cruel to his childhood. Cruel to his growth.

He never asked to grow up so fast.

All he wanted was to have a father who would treat him with love and care, pat his head when necessary, and smile at him warmly.

This was why he envied Chin-hwa so much. He had a father who did all of that. And he was blessed with two of them too. His mother was also very exceptional.

He had two older siblings who would do anything for him as well. He was so lucky.

Being around them, he could see the deep and cruel difference between their lives, but he was glad. If it wasn't for Chin-hwa, he would've never gotten to experience any of this.

He would've never been able to get a pat like that one. It felt good and only for a moment, he felt Woo-bin was treating him like his own kid.

...

Up on the stairs and leaning on the railing was an Alpha. It wasn't Deok-ryu or Kang-woo. It wasn't Baek-Hyun either since he was out on an emergency meeting.

The person standing at the stairs with his eyes fixed on Yun-tae was a guest. A regular guest was more like it. Wait, could he even be considered a guest? With his history in that house... He was more like a fourth son since Kang-woo had taken the spot of the third son.

The point to be taken was that he had his eyes on Yun-tae with an intense gaze filled with a peculiar interest.

His name was...
