Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Let My Cousin Sue Him

Winston Valentine soothingly patted her back, handed her over to Samantha Warren, and then walked toward the bed.

Luke Shaw looked at Winston Valentine, who was brimming with hostility, as if seeing a demon from hell, scared out of his wits.

He originally just wanted to talk with Cecilia Vaughn about getting back together, but she hinted at booking a room with him. Thinking it would be quite an achievement to sleep with Winston’s ex-girlfriend, he went with her.

By the time they both had drinks and were nearly undressed, she dawned an attitude of chastity, swearing she wouldn’t give in. He was already past the point of no return and had no intention of complying...

His collar was sharply yanked.

Facing Winston Valentine’s gaze, Luke Shaw was so frightened his voice trembled, "Pres... President Valentine, this is a misunder..."

"Bang!"

A cold, hard fist landed on Luke Shaw’s face. He cried out in pain as Winston Valentine unleashed his fury with blow after blow, seeming to want to take his life.

Zoe Monroe was utterly terrified.

Initially, Luke Shaw screamed and cried out in pain, but later he couldn’t even make a sound.

Vera Yves rushed forward and hugged him tightly from behind, "Winston Valentine, calm down, if you keep hitting him, it’ll become a murder case!"

Winston Valentine turned around, roughly grabbed her chin, "If you don’t want to die, get lost!"

Seeing the viciousness in his eyes, Vera Yves was startled, and in the next second, she was harshly shoved aside.

Her high heels snagged on the carpet, causing Vera Yves to fall pathetically, her forehead hitting the side of a table, but it seemed she couldn’t feel the pain.

Zoe Monroe came back to her senses, hurried to support her, and looked angrily at Winston Valentine, "How could you push Vera like that!"

Samantha Warren looked at Vera being pushed, wishing she could tear her apart, "A woman with such a snake-heart deserves to die!"

Cecilia Vaughn tightly clutched her coat, looking at her with hatred, "Vera Yves, why did you let Luke treat me like this? Do you want to ruin me that badly?"

Vera Yves’ voice was pale, "I only gave him an invitation. I didn’t know he would do such a thing!"

Luke Shaw had already been beaten half to death, unable to utter a word, and Winston Valentine dragged him up to hit him again. Cecilia Vaughn burst into tears, her voice trembling, "Winston, I don’t want to stay here, take me away, please?"

The words seemed to bring the man back to his senses, and Winston Valentine instructed Walter Lowell, "Take him to the police station!"

He then lifted Cecilia Vaughn from the ground and carried her out of the room, not sparing a glance at Vera Yves from start to finish. Cecilia Vaughn looked at Vera, their eyes meeting midair.

Cecilia Vaughn smirked proudly before burrowing her head into Winston Valentine’s embrace.

Vera Yves was shaken to the core.

Zoe Monroe fumed, "This is outrageous! If my cousin were here, he wouldn’t let you suffer such grievances!"

Winston Valentine’s steps faltered for a moment before he strode away.

Zoe Monroe helped Vera Yves up from the ground, seeing her knees were scraped, she became angrier, "Is your husband always like this to you?"

Vera Yves shook her head, not wanting to say more.

"What’s so good about such a husband? Divorce him! If he won’t, I’ll have my cousin sue him, strip him of everything!"

Walter Lowell was arranging for bodyguards to lift Luke Shaw off the bed. Hearing this, he cast a glance at this fierce woman, truly not considering himself an outsider!

Zoe Monroe chattered on about many things.

Vera Yves didn’t really hear her, finally just said, "Zoe, I hope you can keep this family matter of mine confidential." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Zoe Monroe was stunned, "Are you afraid I’ll tell my cousin?"

Vera Yves shook her head, "I don’t want anyone to know."

Zoe Monroe said helplessly, "Mark Yves is obviously not in your husband’s league. Can you really expect him to stand up for you? Anyway, my cousin has protected you since childhood. If he knew you suffered these grievances..."

Vera Yves grabbed her hand, "Zoe, we’re all grown up now, many things can’t be as simple as they were when we were kids."

Zoe Monroe said helplessly, "Vera, what’s gotten into you? You never used to let yourself be wronged like this."

Returning to the villa, it was already past eleven o’clock at night. Vera Yves cleaned her wound and thought about Cecilia Vaughn’s expression, realizing this matter was definitely not as simple as it seemed.

Winston Valentine didn’t return all night. Vera knew he was surely staying by Cecilia Vaughn’s side, perhaps feeding her medicine again, perhaps holding her and whispering comfort.

Thinking of his vicious eyes, Vera Yves closed her eyes, feeling guilty for the forced marriage imposed by the Yves Family years ago. She had been enduring everything for so long she almost forgot what she used to be like.

Early in the morning, Tristan Valentine’s call came, asking her to go to the Hillside Villa to continue treatment for Cleo Sutton.

Upon arriving at the Hillside Villa, Vera Yves saw Tristan Valentine sitting in the living room, a young, fresh-looking woman sitting nervously across from him.

Seeing Vera Yves enter, Tristan Valentine stood up and introduced them, "This is Vera Yves, the doctor responsible for treating Cleo. This is Rae Rhodes, the caregiver I found for Cleo."

"Sister, you’re so beautiful," Rae Rhodes exclaimed genuinely seeing Vera Yves.

Vera Yves smiled politely, "You’re very pretty too."

Rae Rhodes appeared about the same age as her, dressed very simply.

Tristan Valentine called Vera Yves into a side room, "I’ve sorted out the clinic matters for you. In a few days, it’ll be transferred to your name."

Vera Yves didn’t expect Tristan Valentine to settle things so quickly.

"Thank you, I’ll prepare the money as soon as possible."

"Since marrying Winston, I haven’t given you any substantial gifts; consider this clinic my way of offering one," Tristan Valentine patted her shoulder, "That kid, Winston, can be domineering at times, sorry for the trouble."

After instructing her, Tristan Valentine didn’t accompany them upstairs.

After a few days of not seeing her, Cleo Sutton looked a bit more haggard. Seeing Vera Yves, she smiled, "Sorry to trouble you again."

Rae Rhodes laughed, "Aunt Sutton, you just need to get better quickly, then Vera won’t have to keep coming."

Cleo Sutton’s gaze softened considerably when she saw her, "Rhea is right. I must get better soon."

Unlike her reserved demeanor around Tristan Valentine, Rae Rhodes was much livelier around Cleo Sutton.

When Vera Yves left the Hillside Villa, it was almost noon. She had a simple lunch outside and received a call from Old Mrs. Valentine on the way, heading back to the old house directly.

Samantha Warren returned to the old house to get clothes for Cecilia and, upon seeing Vera Yves, hated her immensely but refrained because of Old Mrs. Valentine.

She approached Vera Yves with an air of superiority, "Vera, Winston will be at the hospital taking care of Cecilia for a few days. You should pack some clean clothes for him; I can bring them to the hospital."

Seeing Vera Yves unmoved, Samantha Warren continued, "Don’t be so petty; the doctor said Cecilia is mentally disturbed. She can’t be without Winston now, and he doesn’t want to leave her either. You can understand that, right?"

And what if she couldn’t understand?

"I’ll pack the clothes and have someone send them to the hospital," Vera Yves’ voice was hoarse.

"Do it quickly then," Samantha Warren sighed, yet her tone was full of smugness, "From last night until now, Winston hasn’t closed his eyes, handling everything personally, he puts even me, his own mother, to shame."
