The displeasure in Mason Nightshade's eyes was unmasked, and Aurelia could see it with just a glance. She chuckled lightly, "But if Mr. Nightshade could do us the honor of joining our group for the party, I'm sure everyone would be thrilled."
Under the lights, the girl's radiant smile dazzled him for a moment. The corners of his thin lips curved into a smile, speaking to everyone but keeping his eyes on her, "I don't mind at all."
Mason Nightshade's presence made the young girls in the crew very happy. They'd only ever heard about Mr. Nightshade on the internet, never seen him in person, let alone been close to him. They didn't really expect to catch his attention or gain his favor, but being this close to such a handsome man was a treat for these appearance-focused girls.
They took a car to a nearby KTV.
Aurelia noticed Mason Nightshade stop, looked up at the sign, and subtly moved to his side, asking quietly, "What's wrong? Disgusted?"
Mason Nightshade raised an eyebrow, glancing at her gloating expression, "Do you really think I'm so finicky that I can't take a bit of hardship?"
Aurelia recalled a time when she cooked a meal for him, only for him to nitpick everything. She nodded, confirming, "Exactly!"
She paused for a second, feeling she hadn't fully expressed herself, and added, "You're also picky and hard to cater to. I once worried about what I'd do if I couldn't afford to support you after marrying you."
Picky and hard to cater to... When did he ever give her that impression? Wasn't she actually describing herself? Picky, hard to please, and demanding, that's clearly this little cat.
"It should be me worrying about whether I can support you."
"But your family went bankrupt back then! When I married you, you were broke and in debt. I didn't have much money either. At the time, I thought, what if one day I can't earn enough to support you? Would you leave me?" Aurelia spoke matter-of-factly.
Mason Nightshade suddenly remembered past events.
Was she working so hard, staying up until two or three in the morning reading scripts, out of fear that if the Nightshade family really went bankrupt, he would hit rock bottom? Was she preparing an escape route for him in advance?
Out of sight from the others, Mason Nightshade gently squeezed Aurelia's hand and murmured softly, "In the future, you won't have to support me. I'll support you."
Aurelia's heart skipped a couple of beats.
The greatest sense of security comes from those words, from a promise.
"Aurelia, let's go inside quickly. Director Ying and the others are waiting for us." An arm suddenly descended from above, wrapping around Aurelia's shoulders and ushering her inside. Andrew Kennedy grinned at Aurelia; it wasn't clear if he did it on purpose or by accident.
Mason Nightshade watched their backs from behind, his expression darkened.
Tyler Thomas silently wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. What was this guy up to again? Why must he provoke Mason Nightshade, a person you absolutely shouldn't mess with?!
Entering the KTV room, Aurelia brushed Andrew Kennedy's arm aside, "On stage is on stage. I think with your years of acting, you wouldn't confuse on-stage and off-stage interactions, right? Joking around verbally is fine, but physical contact is too much. I don't like people being too close to me."
Andrew Kennedy raised an eyebrow at her, "It's exactly because you're so proper that men don't get nervous around you."
