Chapter 28: Weak But Strong [II]

SWOOO—

Ba-dump!

The palm filled Elias’s vision with the pink color, being the only thing he could see. It was moving so fast that it tore through the air and made Elias feel a gust of wind, making his hair whip.

Ba-dump!

Elias’s heart beat, its thud echoing all over his body.

Panic surged to a peak in the moment. But Elias did his best not to react involuntarily. He only did what he had planned.

Fortunately, the palm stopped before reaching Elias’s face. The digits twitched, hovering just before Elias’s face, like a reminder of something.

And, after a moment—

Evelyn lowered her hand, letting it dangle at her side, and simply stared at the man before her. She couldn’t tell if he was telling the truth or not, but when she tried to attack, the quick response of his jaw told her that he might be telling the truth.

That he might really kill himself if she did anything. Not that she was going to do.

Not now, at least!

’I am safe!’

Elias felt relief wash over his body, but he didn’t let it show. He knew the woman before him. Not perfectly, but at least to the point where he knew what her decisions were somewhat going to be.

Still, he didn’t feel the danger was gone.

Because if Evelyn wanted, she could have knocked him out before Elias could comprehend. Now that was something that reached a territory where he didn’t have anything under control.

And Elias didn’t want that.

But he also knew the woman was not going to take risks. For her, her brother really meant that much.

This was not the only reason, though!

But all of this didn’t matter as Elias felt safe for now, and it became apparent the next moment when Evelyn parted her lips.

"What do you want?" She said, removing the executioner’s sword, flicking it lightly to remove the blood on it, and then sheathing it back into her scabbard. The katana returned to the state where Elias liked it to be.

’Good. I succeeded! She wants to talk now at least.’

"Nothing much," Elias smiled as he saw her backing away and taking a seat on the chair. "I just want you to help me. After that, I will make sure to tell you where your brother is. Not only that, but I will personally lead you there."

"..."

"Deal," Elias smiled as he tried not to fall due to his legs feeling like jelly.

"What help?"

"..."

"..."

"Don’t you know me?" Elias pointed at himself, surprised by Evelyn’s reaction.

"Why would I know you?" She muttered. "Are you someone famous?"

"Well, I am famous for being known as a good-for-nothing son. However, that’s not the reason I think you should know me." Elias said, taking a seat on the bed. The sheet dipped under him as he glanced at Evelyn. His lips pulled. "Don’t you know almost all of us? Almost all nobles, merchants, church members, and any important people who are in the empire. I don’t think you have left anybody whose records are present to citizens for access. Maybe even things not accessible to citizens."

"..."

Evelyn didn’t answer. She simply stared at him. Only after a moment of silence did she speak.

"Yes, I know you. However, you are very different from what’s known about you in public."

"Of course, I am," Elias grinned. "Isn’t that the reason you are not torturing me?"

"..."

"What? Did you really think I didn’t know about you? I know, and I am pretty sure that you are thinking that I just want to use you, don’t you?" Elias spoke with a smile. He wanted Evelyn to know that he really knew the whereabouts of her brother. There was no way she was really believing him.

Doubt would be there. And Elias didn’t want her to doubt, as even a hitch in a critical moment can be dangerous.

’And I don’t want myself in danger.’

"I know everything about you and your brother. I know how you are. I know more about you than you can think, Evelyn Morail. For example... I know about the Morail family incident." Elias stopped, feeling the bearing gaze of Evelyn.

After a moment, he once more spoke up. "So, in case you ever think that maybe I just want to use you for your powers... well, I do, but it is an equal exchange. You are helping me, and in return, I would do the same. However, in case you doubt me, try to talk with me, because as you know, communication is an important thing for a long-lasting relationship."

"... So you want me to kill your uncle," Evelyn said, completely disregarding what Elias had just said.

"Maybe or maybe not," Elias muttered, also not talking anymore about her. He turned his eyes to glance at the twinkling city from the gap between the curtains of the balcony. "We will get to know about it sooner.... if he is the reason behind my parents’ deaths."

’My parents, huh!’

Elias’s eyes darkened, his face bleaching to blankness. Turning his glowing hazel orbs towards the sitting woman in front of him, he continued. "You can kill him."

"... If he is not?"

"Then no," Elias said, making a weirded-out face. "Do you think I am some psychopath or something?"

"..."

"Wait, you really think I am?"

"So that’s it then." Evelyn stood up. "You will tell me when I complete the work."

"Yes."

Elias nodded.

Hearing Elias’ approval, she didn’t say anything and started to walk towards the balcony.

"Hey."

Suddenly, Elias called from behind, confusion laced in his tone. "Where are you going?"

"... You want me to stay here all night," Evelyn said in a chilling tone.

"Of course not. But why are you going? Didn’t we have a deal that you would help me, and I would provide you with the information and all?"

"... Yes."

"So why the heck are you going? Your first day of work is today."

Evelyn turned and saw Elias grinning, tooth by tooth.

"Did you think that helping me would only contain my barony problem?"

Evelyn only stared at him as if saying, ’Yeah, isn’t that what we agreed on? ’

"Hah! No, it contained other work to do too."

Evelyn’s face twitched as she saw Elias shaking his head while pressing his palm against his head, like a father who was quite disappointed in his daughter.

’You motherfucking—’
