Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 296: Beautiful oranges.
Chapter 296: Beautiful oranges.
Oak and Bell were standing close to the entrance of the green house where they were waiting for the governor. But it was not her that their eyes fell on, it was the other governor.
"Good morning general." Oak greeted Esong first but his neck craned, looking behind him for traces of the governor who understood what they did.
"She is not coming." Esong told Oak with a small smile on his face.
"Oh," the big man’s face frowned, and he appeared to be crestfallen.
"That’s too bad." Bell mumbled.
"I am glad to see that my presence give you two old fellows reassurance." Esong said sarcastically.
"You can’t blame us, we wanted her to see the work we have toiled for." Oak said.
"All through the winter." Bell added.
"We braved the freezing cold snow." Oak said in a mournful voice.
"And fought off mutated beasts." Bell added.
"All for the sake of the citizens, so that someday every little boy and girl on every star planet of our empire can go to bed on a full stomach and wake up to the expectation of a warm meal." Oak looked like he was taking a vow as his eyes were closed and one hand was over his heart.
Esong sneered at the two old fellows who were exaggerating with every word that fell from their lips. ’They fought mutated beasts!!" he sneered. Did they think he was foolish or gullible to fall for that nonsense.
"Great job." Esong told them. "But, I don’t have a lot of time to spend here because I have much work to do. Sooo, if we could get this show on the road.."
"This is why you are not the right man for the job." Bell said.
"How can you call our precious hard work a show?" Oak asked.
Feeling peevish, Esong was reminded of all the times that these two old fellows drove him mad with their words.
"This is what we have successfully grown so far," Oak who realized that they were poking the beast perhaps a little too much was quick to deliver the results of their work.
Esong looked at the round orange thing in Oak’s hand, then, he took it from him and held it up for observation. When he was done with that, he brought it closer to his nose and smelled it.
He could detect a faint whiff of something but he could not accurately describe it. He had seen pictures of it in Scarlet’s books however.
"This is an orange, right?" he asked them.
"Oh, a round of applause for the man." Oak said. "Our general is far more knowledgeable than he appears."
Esong smiled proudly and he nodded his head, "I have been learning, I think I am almost at your lady governor’s level now."
’No, you are not.’ Oak thought.
’I doubt that.’ Bell thought.
But when they looked at him, they smiled and said. "Of course, the lady governor’s husband must be just as impressive as she is."
"Let me show you the inside." Bell said. Swiftly, he peeled an orange with his oranges. The peel came off quite easily and he discarded it.
The orange was divided up between the two scientists and the governor. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"If she was here, the governor would tell us if the taste is right." Bell said, and he sent a glare Esong’s way.
It was if Esong was directly responsible for Scarlet’s absence.
"Send some to the castle, I am sure that she will want a taste as soon as she wakes up. You will be hearing from her if she has any feedback for you. What do you need me to sign?" he asked them.
Oak handed him a sleek tablet terminal, and he said, "Sign this release document allowing us to start transporting five thousand seeds and six thousand seedlings to the different orchards where they are meant to go. It would be better if you stayed around for the counting to ensure that the number is precise. This is necessary in case some of the seeds go missing in the process of transportation or planting. We do not want the blame to be sent our way."
Esong looked at the time, and then he sighed and gave them a resolved look. "I will stay, this is important."
The seeds were counted separately from the ones which had matured in pots. All of these were put on ships which transported them to the allocated fields and workers in the farms got started.
Esong sighed when they took off, somehow, this exercise was more tasking than their training.
"Well then, is that all?" Esong asked Fey.
"No, we have to move to another green house." Oak told him.
"There is more!" Esong said, in a surprised voice.
"Yes, we have twelve more green houses to go. I told you, we were very busy in winter." Bell replied this time around.
He nodded and braced himself, they had done their part and so had his wife. It was his turn to contribute even though his contribution was meager.
"Let’s go." he told them.
They worked all through lunch, and when he finally returned to the castle at three, he was so glad that his wife was awake.
"Scar!!!" he grabbed her waist and hugged her.
She laughed and said, "What is wrong with my big baby today? Was training too hard? Did someone ruin new expensive equipment?"
"I spent my day counting seeds, tasting fruits, and carrying pots." he told her.
There was a groan in his voice which almost sounded like the growl of an angry dog.
"How did that happen?" she asked him.
"I am your co-governor, and I was simply doing my duties. I just didn’t realize that menial tasks too could be exhausting. Everyone in our society assumes that we with superior mental strength work the hardest but now I know our jobs are balanced. Those without mental strength work just as hard as we do."
"Mmm, it’s good that you have used this as a learning experience. I think this will make you a better governor. Thank you for helping me out, hmm." she kissed him on the head and hugged him.
"I intend to keep helping out, there is more to do tomorrow." he told her. "I realized today that I have been quite absent in some of my duties."
"That’s amazing." she told him. "Now, have some food and let us discuss something very important. I need to ask you for a favor."
"Is it related to what you wanted to talk about yesterday?" he asked.
"Yes, I want to take a trip to the grey star but because of the emperor’s ban on travel for my family I cannot leave. Can you help me?"
