Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 322: Clear the air.
Chapter 322: Clear the air.
A few nervous feet shuffled and more than a few unhappy eyes glared at the female reporter. Of all the questions to ask, why was she going in that direction?
The female reporter, despite being nervous, thought in her mind, "It’s just a harmless question, why is she over reacting?"
Ramslin laughed, and he clapped his hands three times. "Everyone, let’s slow down, this reporter, you should apologize for asking such an inappropriate question."
"Yes, governor, she should apologize." Minister Maurey was very much on board with Ramslin’s suggestion.
He even shot a few pleading glances Scarlet’s way, hoping that she would put down her anger and see the bigger picture. They needed investors on the Blue star, the publicity provided by Ramslin would do that. Other big stars would follow him, and soon it would be directors, film companies and the like. They needed a variety of industries to develop, not just food.
"A private meeting between friends does not need the presence of reporters. I believe that you have seen just how at ease we are with each other and you can go now. Ramslin will be having a fan meeting tomorrow at the Evergreen football fields and you can ask him all that you want from there." Scarlet dug her heels and insisted on her stance.
With reporters here, she had learned that the softer you were, the harder they pressed. She had to be tough with them, just as Alice the sweetest had taught her.
"In that case, let me clear up the air before you reporters go. We are friends, and that is all there has ever been and will ever be between the lady governor of the Blue star and I. I hope that our friendship will not be turned into something ugly or else the mecha king will knock on my door and dangle me in the air by my legs. By the way, I will also sue if my name is slandered." Ramslin was smiling, but anybody with sense and keen observation would see the tense look in his eyes.
Jelly was one such person, and she was the first reporter to leave. That blabbermouth reporter who was seeking for scandals rather than a simple story had ruined it for all of them.
"I will escort the reporters out." Minister Maurey said.
"Please do." Scarlet said dryly.
Everyone left the office in a orderly manner and Scarlet was left inside, alone, with Ramslin. The forced smile on his face was gone just as quickly, and that overly confident arrogant look of all warrior reapers returned swiftly.
"Why are you here?" she asked him.
"Friend.." he started to say as he caressed the pink elephant.
"Put my plushie back where you found it." she told him sternly.
Ramslin laughed, but he used his power to elevate the plushie and send it back to the shelf.
"And don’t call me friend when we are alone, I don’t have fake friends." she told him.
"So, what does that make us? We are the only two people on this planet with a shared secret. We should be close, rely on each other and help each other grow our strength. Every grim reaper in the underworld is part of an alliance, we work in groups which I am sure you have noticed. You have friends like Ezrah and Hawk, and yet you are not part of their alliance, neither have you allied with any guardians at this moment. I am here with a genuine offer to form an alliance with you, I mean who better than the reaper on your own world." He sat up straight and explained himself.
"Mmm." She leaned back in her chair and tapped her fingers together, looking at him silently as if she was deep in thought.
Indeed, she was because it was such suspicious, why now? It was not as if he was meeting her for the very first time, they had met each other in passing a time or two, never in the underworld though.
"You doubt my intentions." He said.
She gave him a blank look and asked, "Why shouldn’t I? Why now? Is it because I have proven that I am no push over from what I accomplished in the duo leaderboard games?"
"Yes," he stated clearly and stood up. He walked slowly to the window closest to her desk and looked outside.
She spun around in her chair and followed him with her gaze, waiting for him to add more onto his statement.
"I am a reaper with ambition, someday I want to be one of the best to ever walk in the underworld. I want to ally myself with reapers who have the same wish but are not foolish in the way they go about it. Reapers Like Ulysses, Charlie, Vargo and others, they claim to be the best but they don’t have the respect and admiration of others. Everyone looks at them as glory hounds who seek to satisfy their own selfish desires. Attitudes like theirs have ruined the environment of the underworld and made venturing into small worlds even more dangerous for us reapers. He looked at her and asked, "You already know about the small world’s of treasures created by deities. Grim reapers are not the only ones sent in there, all deities send all sorts of creatures and to survive, one must be allied with those that can be trusted. I have seen reapers go in there as high level reapers and come out at level one. Some even need to enter the rejuvenation pool for years to repair the damage to their souls."
While he explained his reasons, Scarlet still didn’t buy it, perhaps he was eighty percent honest but there was something else. What was the missing piece to this puzzle?
She had met many people like this in the apocalypse, people who approached you and sought to use you when they wanted something. They were just as quick to dump or sacrifice you when you were of no use to them anymore. That was how she ended up dead in the first place.
"You want something else from me, not just an alliance so unless you are honest with me, your offer will not be considered. Mr. wise guy, name it." she told him.
Ramslin raised his hands and smiled slyly, looking a cat which had been caught stealing a fish from kitchen.
"He-he, you are smart." he said.
She shrugged and slowly twirled her chair from side to side, she had all the time in the world and the upper hand in this situation because he wanted this alliance more than she did.
