Transmigration: Step Into The World of Books And Become The Strongest!-Chapter 55: Test (2)
"Green light?" Catrine was surprised to see a bright green glow within the crystal ball.
She soon smiled and nodded in approval. "Excellent. You’ve evoked the wood attribute. It’s very suitable for a support type."
Normally, the attributes evoked by mages referred to the four elements of the world: fire, water, earth, and wind.
However, there were also rare cases where mages awakened attributes beyond these four, such as wood, light, lightning, and others.
Of course, awakening an attribute outside the four main elements was quite rare.
Nonetheless, there was one exception that could be considered somewhat common—the wood attribute.
Despite being outside the four main elements, wood was fairly often awakened by mages who had just discovered their attributes.
Most mages with the wood attribute tended to major in support magic rather than offensive spells.
It was only natural, considering most wood-based magic was geared toward support rather than attack.
Avalton was a little surprised by the attribute he had awakened but soon smiled happily.
"Miss Catrine, is the wood attribute strong? How does it compare to the four main elements? And how does it compare to the light attribute? Which one is stronger?" He asked in rapid succession, his excitement showing.
Seeing his enthusiasm, Catrine smiled awkwardly.
She wanted to say that the wood attribute couldn’t really be considered powerful, but it was still quite useful.
However, seeing the boy’s hopeful expression, she couldn’t bring herself to shatter his fantasy.
Just as she was about to answer, Rudolf, who was standing beside her, interrupted.
"The wood element is not a strong attribute, Prince. It pales in comparison to the four major elements—let alone the light element."
His blunt words instantly shattered Avalton’s hopes. His eyes glazed over, leaving him looking pitiful.
Catrine sighed softly and shot Rudolf a cold glare.
Sensing her gaze, Rudolf immediately stiffened and cleared his throat awkwardly.
Ignoring him, Catrine gently rubbed Avalton’s head, trying to comfort him.
"Well, although I can’t deny what Rudolf said, the wood element still has its advantages. Like..."
She began explaining the various strengths of the wood attribute, slowly lifting Avalton’s spirits.
"Thank you for the explanation, Miss Catrine," he said respectfully.
A smile returned to his handsome, slightly rounded face.
Catrine smiled back and gave a brief nod. "You’re welcome, Prince. Don’t worry, you’ve passed this test. I’ll give you an entry token to the Academy once everything is finalized."
"Um!" Avalton nodded vigorously, then turned and walked back to his seat.
Meanwhile, the ministers and high-ranking officials who witnessed Avalton’s attribute awakening began to whisper among themselves.
Some looked appreciative, while others remained calm and indifferent, as if they had already expected the result.
Avalton’s mother, Nura, was a level-two mage with a wood attribute, so most had already guessed that Avalton would awaken the same element.
As for the light element? They hadn’t even considered it. It was far too rare—even rarer than lightning or any other attribute outside the four main elements.
Throughout recorded history, only the Royal Family of Valura had ever been able to awaken and pass down the light element from generation to generation.
In the current generation, only His Majesty Nathan and the Crown Prince, the First Prince, had awakened it.
Given that only one person awakened it each generation—and this time it was the First Prince—the ministers simply smiled in silence.
"Wood attribute, huh? That’s pretty good," Nathan said, nodding slightly.
He turned his head to the left and looked at Nura, whose face was grim and cold.
"Congratulations, Nura. You’ve given birth to a fine son," he said softly.
Nura’s expression instantly shifted into a smile, though traces of resentment lingered on her face.
"Thank you for the compliment, Your Majesty. I hope Avalton can live up to your expectations."
Nathan merely smiled faintly and nodded slowly. The sight made the smile on Nura’s face gradually freeze.
Although Nathan tried to hide it, Nura could sense his indifference toward Avalton’s results.
A storm of anger, resentment, and hatred raged within her, but there was nothing she could do.
The reason she had desperately hoped her son would awaken the light attribute was so Nathan would pay more attention to her.
With so many concubines—not to mention the existence of the queen—Nathan’s attention was already spread thin.
Moreover, if the child they bore showed no outstanding talent, that attention would dwindle even further.
It sounded cruel, but that was the reality anyone living in a royal family had to endure—a world full of intrigue and cold-hearted competition.
Beside her, Regina smiled inwardly.
’Hahaha! Nura... Oh, Nura. Even though you were born into a viscount’s family, I never expected you to be this naive. Awakening the light attribute? What a joke!’
She shook her head slightly, disdain clear in her eyes.
For a long time, she had harbored hatred toward Nura—especially for her arrogance and excessive pride.
Had it not been for Nura’s higher status compared to hers and the other concubines, she would have long become the target of their daily ridicule.
At the same time, Regina glanced at her daughter, Clareth, her eyes full of expectation.
’Don’t disappoint Mother, Clareth,’ she whispered softly, a faint smile on her lips, one that carried a hint of ambition.
After Avalton returned to his seat, Catrine scanned the princes and princesses one by one before asking, "Who wants to go next?"
This time, several princes and princesses under the age of sixteen eagerly raised their hands.
Their earlier silence had been to observe how the test was conducted.
Now that they had a sense of how things worked, they hesitated no longer.
After all, they all had to take part eventually. Whether they went first or last didn’t really matter.
One by one, the princes and princesses stepped forward nervously, placing their hands on the crystal ball. Some had satisfactory results, while others did not.
The Sixth Prince, born of the Second Concubine, evoked the fire attribute, which took Nathan by slight surprise.
"Fire attribute, huh? How marvelous," he said, nodding in appreciation.
Although fire was one of the four major elements, it was considered the most powerful and deadly. This element possessed immense offensive power.
The second concubine, Natasya, couldn’t hide her smile at the praise.
She was a beautiful woman with blonde hair, and her son, the Sixth Prince, resembled her closely in appearance.
"Thank you for the compliment, Your Majesty. I’m sure our son, Ivan, will become a great asset to the kingdom in the future," she said, covering her smile with her palm.
"I hope so, Natasya," Nathan replied with a gentle smile.
The scene made the other concubines feel a twinge of jealousy and resentment, but there was nothing they could do about it.
Just then, Clareth stood up with a confident smile. "So, it’s my turn now, huh?"
