Triiffic-Soul: Can I Be In Control?-Chapter 148 – Found Too Late
Chapter 148 – Found Too Late
Even though they had just exited the city, Anlesa couldn’t stop now. They had to make sure the children were safe. She stood up off the ground, her muscles in her legs ached, but that had to be ignored.
“I know everything is still a bit crazy, but we have to keep moving.” Said Syrus.
The children were all extremely dizzy from the teleportation, combined with their already existing exhaustion from being locked up and a lack of proper sleep. Syrus didn’t place them down and kept holding on to them as she ran further into the forest. No longer supporting her movements with heavy use of her Blood attribute slowed them down, but they couldn’t afford the mana cost, as that needed to be saved for immediate emergencies, and their body was still strained from the earlier use due to preexisting issues.
[Luna, how are you feeling?] Eva asked. They could all feel the exhaustion caused by Luna’s teleportation, but with the rest of the mental burdens that were layered on top of it, Eva was concerned.
[I’m alright…] (Luna)
Luna and Eva wanted to pass out where they stood. They were feeling unwell; it was only thanks to Syrus that a specific, extremely bad outcome didn’t occur.
Luna was surprised by the cost and strain from her first purposeful teleportation of multiple people. She was also plenty surprised she was able to pull it off. Space wasn’t inherently a deadly attribute, and one of the advanced actions a person could do was teleport multiple people. Of course, with the introduction of the Blinker, that scope of advanced actions had increased, but it was still true that teleporting multiple people was considered a complicated feat.
Syrus knew more practical examples than Luna, as Luna could only read about the uses, but Syrus had seen it in use before. So when they had the time, Syrus had recounted those encounters with Luna.
From their quick attempt, the physical strain was about nine times more intense than normal, which was a momentarily massive cause of concern, as Luna was worried that it might have affected the kids as well, but it appeared that the act only caused them to be dizzy and sick. Still not a great outcome, but it was more in line with not being used to teleportation. The mana cost was roughly four times more than Luna’s usual teleport. Due to their expanded mana pool, the actual impact of this cost was less in comparison to if a regular person tried this.
With 4/9ths of their mana depleted, there was still much Luna immediately noticed about this successful failure of an attempt. There was a severe range limit with Luna’s teleportation. She tried to go the max distance she could normally reach, but she failed at that, and she knew those advanced Space users could teleport multiple people and not be completely knocked out by it.
If someone else tried what Luna just did, they would’ve been out of mana, so Luna knew she was missing something important when it came to the efficiency.
[How far do we have to run?] (Eva)
[A good thirty-minute sprint should do it.] (Syrus)
[Are you sure that is not too much?] (Luna)
[Do you want to risk that chance with the guard happening to search the nearby areas?] (Syrus)
[No.] (Luna)
[Then I will keep running.] (Syrus)
Throughout the cold night, Syrus ran to get as far away as possible; she even eventually passed one of the smaller towns on the way to the border.
Eventually, they had to stop. Syrus couldn’t run anymore without doing serious harm to their body. They found a spot between the trees and placed the children down.
“Don’t worry anymore; it is safe here.” Luna’s words were a command that finally shut the children’s brains down.
She had pulled out a small blanket from their bag, which was barely big enough to cover one person, but she tried putting it over the three children.
They didn’t complain, as knowing that they were all together and finally safe was enough to allow the monster of sleep to catch up.
The three children lay next to each other as they slept on the ground. Each was clearly worn out from the stress and pain that they had faced over the last few days.
Billy was the smallest, and his hands tugged hard on the blanket Anlesa had given them. His curled brown hair was all frazzled up, and his hazel eyes were firmly shut as he dreamed all the bad things away.
Susan had a look of peace on her face. Her black hair blew in the breeze, and her eyes twitched open at the noises of the forest. Her pale green eyes were visible for quick moments before closing again.
[She needs to learn how to control the passive effects of her sound; otherwise, she might never get a good night's sleep.] (Syrus)
[Well, she has you.] (Eva)
Syrus disagreed. [I can help her with the hearing, but I’m not sure if I can help with the not hearing side. The way we gain the ability to hear is fundamentally different after all, and hers is much more powerful, and because it is her attribute, it is more tied to her emotions than mine. So in times of stress like this, it would be harder to control.]
[You should hear yourself; the fact that you have such insight is a good enough confirmation.] (Luna)
Jerry was snuggled between the other two children. His hair was a shade lighter than what they remembered. They pushed their hand through it, but no dust or powder came out, so they assumed it was an aftereffect of his attribute. His eyes were still blue.
With the children resting, Syrus plopped herself down and lay on the trunk of a tree. The exhaustion was catching up to them as well.
Knowing where they were, Luna hummed a complicated tune as she tried to sort the emotions she was feeling.
[Everything okay Luna? Still tired from the teleport?] (Eva)
[I’m free from the immediate effects, Lilly, but it will still take some time for our body to truly recover.] (Luna)
[It's a constant cycle for us, isn’t it? We need to rest and recover, but we keep getting into trouble.] (Syrus)
[It's not like we don’t rest, the issue is just that we need to rest for a really long time.] (Eva)
[Aye, that.] (Syrus) freeweɓnovel-cøm
[True, no, it is just that we are near the town I once knew.] (Luna)
[What’s it called?] (Eva)
[Cobble, we are still a few towns off from where it was located, and we would have to travel further north than what we planned to.] (Luna)
[Cobble? Dumb name for a town, but not the stupidest one I have heard.] (Syrus)
[Yeah. A few on the outskirts are simply called Rock & Stone as well.] (Luna)
[So what happened to it?] Eva asked.
[It was destroyed, it's my gravesite.] (Luna)
Syrus and Eva gave Luna a moment of silence.
After a while of feeling Luna’s emotions, Syrus said, [You are less panicked than I thought you would be.]
[I would agree with that statement… but out of everything that has happened, my own death is what fazes me the least right now.] (Luna)
With that, Anlesa rested the night away, and before long, morning rose.
“Hello, kids.” Syrus woke up well before any of the children did.
“Morning..?” Billy asked, still confused.
“Where are we?” Jerry asked.
“In the forest, safe from those who captured you.”
Hearing those words, their eyes brightened, and Luna’s heart ached.
While the boys were celebrating, Susan was still concerned.
Susan questioned, “Are we able to get home?”
“Yes, but it's going to take more than a few days, as we have to go all the way around.”
“What does that mean?”
Anlesa was honest. She told them they were north of the church, and the plan was to go through the demon’s territory to reach Arisea Station, then from there go to Cancole.
Understandably, the children were concerned about going through demon territory, and Syrus said something that made them more and less worried.
“Demons like to fight, but they only like fighting strong things, which basically means each other.”
“But what if they do pick a fight with us?”
“It wouldn’t be the first time I have defeated a demon.”
Anlesa gave the children plenty of time to reconnect, but soon they had to move. The next planned destination was a nearby town. Unlike their hometown, these small towns in the Nevald Kingdom were connected on a long, looping trade route, so supplies actually came in and out of these towns easily.
Upon entering the small town, Anlesa quickly looked around to see if there was anything to buy for supplies. They now had four people, so they needed more than what was simply in Anlesa’s backpack. As well, there were no signs of panic or worry from anyone here or any signs of guards, which was good for Anlesa. They didn’t expect guards to come this way, but the fact that they couldn’t see any around made them feel safer. The children weren’t in the town with them and instead stayed outside near the forest. They felt scared about entering the small town, so Syrus didn’t force them to, and in a way, it was better with them staying away.
They moved around quickly and found some fruit, which would be perfect to bring to the children.
She paid for the supplies with the little money she had on her.
[I think that is everything we can get here. Let’s go hunting for some nearby game that should fill the kids' bellies up.] (Syrus)
[I am fine with that, as long as we keep moving.] (Luna)
As Anlesa walked through the village, ready to leave.
She saw a girl who was about one and a half metres tall, with dark brown hair tied back and pale orange eyes, who was happily munching down on sandwiches like there was no one else in the world.
Syrus very quietly swore, “If those make-believe gods do exist, then I swear their only purpose is to fuck with people.” They walked up to the girl who was minding her own business.
[Wait… is it really her?!] (Luna)
[You can’t be serious…] (Eva)
Syrus said, “Not going to lie, I’m kind of annoyed I ran into you now.”
The girl was extremely confused. “Hmm?” Her mouth was full.
“Fuck it, I know who you are. I just did a heist. Are you happy, Ms. Blinker?” Sryus said.
“Wait–How did you know?!” She panicked and nearly choked on her own food.
Luna swapped in, “I have good eyes, but anyway, can you teach me that trick?”
