Chapter 171: Mirage

It’s gone. No matter how hard he looked the location of sandhill castle disappeared without a trace. Leaving only the hall of deception. Which was weird considering it was a sublocation under in sandhill castle.

Speaking off. When awoke there wasn’t signs of the mimic nearby which further questioned his serenity of the labyrinth being a figment of his imagination or not.

Snow, you remember right? The weird symbols, the big beast with a serpent’s head.

[no. you’re probably having a concussion from the effects of overexerting your body beyond its breaking point. Causing you to hallucinate things that aren’t real.] she inwardly spoke leaving him wary.

She doesn’t remember. As a mythical system connected to him they literally shared the same body. And he clearly recalled the events which occurred in sandhill castle but snow didn’t?

[are you saying I’ve been breached?]

Yes.

[humph! I think I’ll be clearly aware if I was been breached or not.] she pouted refusing to believe kyle claims.

She isn’t even aware, so this is the power of a primordial. He knew the definition of a primordial but hadn’t quite seen one in action yet. But he expected nothing short of a being who’ve lived countless lifetimes. yet he never thought it applied to snow. Being an otherworldly system harboring unimaginable powers.

Shaking his head, he didn’t dwell on matters long. Lumia was still kidnapped and he needed to save her in return for his, falcon and aurora’s freedom.

We’re close. The distance between them and the wastelands was shorter than he’d seen before. Only requiring to walk a few meters before arriving.

Snow, scan for anything within a 10-meter radius.

[scanning...]

[search completed, no result.]

Frowning kyle found that hard to believe. She’s probably fortified it with some sort of fortification skill. Checking his status, he was delighted to see his hp and demon energy fully resorted. Even his stamina had somehow been replenished.

How long was I out? He telepathically asked. If truly it had been a dream he pieced he would’ve at least been asleep for a day or two. Maybe even longer which was something he hoped not.

[unfortunately, I can’t keep track of feeds when unconscious.]

Understandable.. sighing, he evaluated their remaining supplies. Having a remainder of the map, his katana and a weird black cube in total.

Where did this come from? Picking it up it was incredibly light which was strange considering it was made from a special type of metal. Not imbedded with any intricate patterns or inscribing like he’d anticipated.

[strange.. my scan results show it isn’t made from steel but moreover a special type of wood, it’s just a normal black cube.] snow spoke already ahead of kyle.

Now why do I find that hard to believe. With all the current happenings lately his take on reality was getting foggy. Slightly shaking his head, he decided to keep the cube in his pockets. Be it instincts he had a gut feeling the cube would be of use to him.

Alright then let’s move out. He let out a warm smile to which xia and ron returned. Their sharp canine teeth on display.

Guided by the map they made their journey towards the wastelands. Two of the three scorching suns in this planet were still visible. Indicating it was inching closer to nighttime.

It’s so hot. Despite the planet nearing nighttime, the atmosphere was still incredibly hot making it harder to move against the blazing heat.

I wonder if the labyrinth was responsible for my encounter with the necrolites. It was still a mystery how he came across rank e demons here. Yes he was aware demons were stretched across different planets but he never thought the chances of him confronting not one but three were this high.

And he could tell they weren’t sent by lucifer. As their intentions were to keep him prisoner, not hand him over. Which made him wonder if the demon king was still interested in him or not.

Walking a bit, a low growl stopped them in track. Instinctively triggering their defensive nature.

I don’t sense a beast nearby. He couldn’t perceive a scent, heartbeat not even an aura. Nor predict its location.

Wait.. am I, hungry? Placing his hand to his guts it rumbled in protest like a wounded lion demanding to be fed.

I guess demons can’t really survive without eating. Hed always thought demons didn’t eat to survive but to replenish injuries. Sometimes for pleasure, but never for sustainment.

I wonder if beings on god rank and above require food for conservation.

[its entirely based on species and rank. while beings who’ve shattered ground breaking obstacles tend to go weeks if not months without food. They eventually need to replenish their body one way or the other.]

So, you’re saying all living things are bound to consume food eventually?

[exactly. The body is a vessel harboring a complex structure fueled by nutrients essentially provided by food. Now while there are supplements and potions to sustain one its quite temporary and not that efficient.]

Nodding he planned on filling the growing void in his stomach.

There isn’t a beast in sight. He frowned not sensing a desert worm since arriving at sandhill castle.

Maybe I should go back, no.. I can’t guarantee if I’ll find one. Contemplating his chances of him finding a desert worm wasn’t certain. And the matter of him killing it and returning here in time was also a solid factor to consider.

[kyle, am detecting movements at that area.] snow hinted and he’d also sensed something coming.

Its not a beast or a person? The aura the figure was emitting wasn’t that of beast or human, creating intrigue of what it was.

Is that- getting closer the heat from the sun lessened, no longer prohibiting his vision. In front was what looked like part man, part beast.

It was naked without clothes having the figure of a human. While its skin was coated in a black gooey substance. No visible ears but having two big black eyes that took more shape of small black holes than eyes.

Stay behind me. Stepping forward he drew his katana not taking any chances. From what he’d learned from the previous battle with the mimic was never to let your guard down.

Grrl. Ignoring kyle it kept on advancing forward. Not fazed by this kyle swiftly swung it katana to its head for a clean finish. Raising its right arm the mimic blocked the attack, sticking the katana to it’s severed hand.

It has gotten faster. Kyle frowned noticing an increase in the mimic’s speed. Departing from the katana, he opted to use his fists rather than dark flames.

He’s weak to fire attacks but so are they, I can’t afford to risk them getting hit by a dark flame. With the knowledge attacking with his current speed was futile he opted for a more subtle approach.

Grah! The mimic groaned stpping in its steps. Turning his two hollow eyes were locked onto kyle running at him with the katana in hand.

Good thinking to charr him with the hot sand snow. It was his systems idea to inflict the mimc with a lesser threat attack while still dealing some amounts of damage.

And hed immediately capitalized on the opportunity going in for akill.

Now I just have to- his throat halted along with his footstep against his will.

w-what the- I cant move my body. He tried moving but to no avail an extremely powerful force opposing him.

It’s the mimc, but how is it this strong? From their previos encounter he was aware the entity wasn’t as strong as this. Yes it had used an illusion ability with the room but this was different. Like some sorts of paralysis ability to stop his body from moving.

Enogh! Xia commanded and like that the overwhelming presuure suddenly vanished. Leaving him panting for air.

Sorry.. he grumpy. She smiled gently tapping the mimc like an obedient puppet.

So its true. She has control over him. At first when his parents fused to form tha abominable entity they got the chance to annihilate the mimc. But somehow brought him back to life with the power of the strange black goo.

Bounding him to be their puppet by the power contained in the black goo. But with the sudden vanishing of the labyrinth and sandhill castles he was starting to re;inquish all what he saw. As even his otherworldly system happened to be unawre of thos occurance. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

I couldn’t fell it before but I can now. His pupils dilted a bit staring at xia. Unlike his father the aura he possed was high but not like his mom. Emitting a far stronger suffocating aura of pure dominance. It was no doubt who the real boss was here.

Since its on our side ill leet it be for now. He thought deciding not to attack the mimic, at least temporarily.

[kyle am detecting high concentrate of mana from that meat.] snow uttered.

So? Isn’t that a beast meat and don’t they naturally absorb mana like all living beings? Hed sensed it too but shrugged it as nothing.

[that’s the thing. The mana inhabiting it is quite condensed and omnious giving off a faint purple glow in contrast to the farmiliar blue]

So what are you saying? That it’s a clone?

[yes. But from the looks of it its not just any clone but a creation from a being with high concentration of mana and will power.]
