Chapter 228: A pardon

"Heh~ Bunch of pests." A short man with bald head snickered, enjoying the scene.

And it wasn’t only him, other nobles also sharing in his so called justice worthy judgemental belief. Of ridding the thorns from the flowers without question.

....

Raising both dual black blades, Reze crossed them in an x position. A deadly glare flashing in her retina, causing Liam with the other commoners to flinch.

"Thank you, miss Reze." Liam weakly smiled, his face bore that silent ’i understand’ expression.

Knowing what awaited them, the rest of the mobs followed in Liam’s steps. Shuddering at the face of death, but refusing to submit to it’s will.

’Fascinating.’ Reze inwardly thought staring at the group of people.

It was no doubt they were crazy and easy to manipulate, but she didn’t blame them. As commoners, their whole lives was taken from them at birth, or the moment they arrived here.

Shackled to the confinements of hard extensive, bone shattering work. Toiling day and even some nights without rest or barely enough food to go by the day.

Just to be insulted, molested, abused spat on, by the so called righteous nobles. Rich and influential people in society, deciding the rules and norms of an establishment.

’Swoosh!’

The air turned sharp, as Reze slashed both blades unanimously. Closing his eyes, Liam along with the rest defeated liberation mob braced themselves for their deaths.

Which never came even after some minutes had passed.

’What happened?’ Liam questioned, without a shroud of clue what transpired in his blackout state. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

He was clearly away Reze had swung her blades, descending to meet their heads. Which never came, even after some considerable amount of seconds had passed.

No doubt making the tense atmosphere wary and awkward.

"I’ll spare your lives just this once, consider this an act of charity. Your work labour shall be tripled, and your daily food supplies shortened for 3 weeks. As punishment for your crimes." Reze declared, maintaining her straight face.

Slowly fluttering his eyes open, liam’s head was still bowed. A conflicted and dumbfounded look flickering in his eyes with uncanny uncertainty.

’She spared us, s-she actually spared us.’ His heart bounced in relief mixed with shock knowing he was still alive.

There was no reason the brilliant scientist of Lumia kingdom should forgive their crimes so easily. As per the law set up by Troy, treason and attempted murder automatically equalled death.

Which was kinda an easy way out, than the punishment required. Which was horrible and soul wrenching, not sugarcoating it, but it was worse than dying.

And there weren’t a lot of the king’s advocates, chosen to implement his law. Only barely reaching 5 to be exact, nevertheless acting upon the written constitution of the kingdom.

"Stay on your knees and reflect on your actions till this passes on. And do make sure to cast your insignificant waste of spaces faces to the ground. Where you belong, as ants and annoying insects." Her tone was calm, laced with coldness and disgust receding back to the gates.

"W-what the hell is she doing?" The short noble man from earlier bellowed with a frown.

’It’s expected from the rules and customs to end thief miserable lives, so why is a chosen king’s advocate disobeying commands!?’ He fumed, a thick green vein appearing to his forehead.

And he wasn’t the only one who disagreed, part of the nobles sharing in his thoughts. Causing the murmurs and low whispers of the crowds of nobles.

"If anyone of you here has something to say, speak up now or forever hold your peace." Reze spoke with a deep voice, etching fear into their hearts. Making the low murmurs and whispers fade into thin air.

"Why did you spare them?" A short man stepped forward, with gritted teeth.

"Were you deaf when I gave my reason or do you plan on becoming one?" Reze shot back with a poker face, making the man clench his fist.

"As a chosen advocate by the king, you’re meant to uphold the rules governing this great kingdom. Not disobeying it, like those low lives." He said with a persuasive look in his eyes.

"Sighs~ You’re right, as an advocate I should uphold the law and kill them." She spoke, placing her hand to her chin.

"But, I’m also given special access to bypass the law and decide their faith however it so pleases me." She relayed, locking eye contact dead on with the man.

"B-but that’s violation of bestowed authority granted by the king." He stuttered in anger, unable to control his rising rage.

"I’m fully aware of the law, but my decision remains permanent." Reze concluded boldly, walking away from the short man.

Leaving the crowds of people here speechless, and a fuming short man with blood boiling.

"She spared their lives?" Layla whispered with with wide eyes, earning an awkward chuckle from lucias.

"And what’s so funny!? I almost got my head cleanly cut out by those savages!!" She pouted in rage, imaginary steams protruding from her head.

"It’s nothing." Lucias slightly shook his head, puzzling Layla more.

"Phew~ she didn’t kill them afterall." A soft sigh of relief escaped brazen’s mouth.

"Strangely, yes." Melo muttered with a questioning gaze, surprised by Reze actions.

"You know, it’s a big crime to feel compliance towards convicted felons." Melo blurted out, adjusting his glasses.

"W-what!? I didn’t feel any complacent way towards the commoners. Scoffs! You must be drunk from all that alcohol intake." Brazen clapped back in self-defense.

Heading back to her office, she momentarily stopped in her tracks. Crouching down a bit, Reze senses was at alert. Her body positioned leaning to a wall, with her ears pressed against it.

"What is it?" Lucias asked with a frown, prepared for the worse.

"The explosions, they’re getting lesser." She replied, listening more to the low vibrations of sound against the wall.

Listening to her, lucias eye widened also hearing the explosion sounds weaken. Prior to before, the active constant eruptions and rattling of the room.

"C-could it possibly mean it’s over?" Layla asked the question on everyone’s mind.

If the explosions were beginning to fade out, it could only mean one thing.

’The fierce battle was coming to and end.’

Now, this could either be a good thing or bad. Depending on whom the victors were, which would decide the faith of the future of the kingdom.

"I can’t hear the explosions more frequently than before."

"Yeah, the room’s also stopped rattling. Could it be it’s really ending?"

"If that’s the case then who won? Did the king really defeat an entire army of those beasts or-" The young commoner woman paused, hesistant to complete her words.

"Don’t be ridiculous. The victor no doubt is the king!" Another individual shot back, confidently puffing his chest out.

Listening in more, the explosion sounds grew weaker. Becoming fainter and fainter, until it eventually came to a halt. Completely seizing in sound, along with the room standing still.

A wary wave of silence enveloped the once buzzing room. Only a single thought echoing through their minds.

’Who won?’

...

’Boom!!!!!!!’

A much bigger explosion caught them off guard. Not only rattling the room, but also creating spreading crack lines. Running across the floors and walls, literally everywhere.

Shifting them off balance by such great magnitude of explosive force. Equivalent to the largest magnitude of earthquake toppled with a nuclear blast ever recorded. Threatening to collapse the room on them, if this continued for longer seconds.

.....

After about some minutes, the huge explosion died out. The damage already done, leaving a half destroyed room. With multiple spider crack lines running everywhere.

Making the ground a literal mine zone, threatening to collapse without deliberate light steps.

"What the hell was that? Another invasion?" Layla asked, regaining herself.

"I highly doubt that. It wouldn’t be wise to launch another invasion now, considering their huge losses. Plus we already have an idea what we’re dealing with." Lucias relayed, to which Layla nodded.

Tilting his head, he glanced towards Reze direction.

’She deactivated the armour?’ Lucias eyes slightly widened, seeing Reze in her casual black dress and white lab coat.

’I understand’ she’s a genius, but isn’t it better to still be equipped and fully prepared until we’re certain of victory?’

Slightly shaking his head, he couldn’t question Reze decisions.

"Miss Reze, what are your orders?" He called out.

Not responding immediately, Reze seemed to be lost in her own thoughts.

’That explosion just now was no doubt not ordinary. Even without the suit, the mana level was off the charts.’ She thought, her head lowered lost in her own thoughts.

’And what’s with those strange lightning ability the suit detected? Could it possibly mean? No~ that would be bad.’ Her face contorted into a frown, a sense of fear lingering in her eyes for the first time.

"Miss Reze!"

"Huh?" Turning she could see everyone’s eyes were on her. Making tints of red form to her cheeks.

"I-is she blushing right now?" Brazen stuttered, his eyes twitching in disbelief.

"That should be the case. But more importantly, is she getting turned on?" Melo blurted out, earning a smack to the head from brazen.

"Your orders miss Reze?" Lucias spoke with determined eyes.

Taking in a deep breath, she exhaled. "Gather everyone and thread softly. We leave for the surface immediately."

Reze ordered, the space guards nodding their heads in affirmation.
