Chapter 234: Corpse

"You’re not in a position to dictate and we follow." Layla was the first to speak, her guard on attention. The blue energy sword pointed towards Kyle.

"Is that so? Oh well, you brought this upon yourself." Shrugging, Kyle brought his left palm close to xeblo’s face.

The dark flames burning with great intent, craving his skin to shred. Causing the grown man to let out a low shriek, beads of sweat running down his face.

’Damnit! I thought he was bluffing.’ Layla silently cursed, watching Kyle still ongoing with his motive.

She’d taken a wild gamble and pulled his stunt as a bluff. To make him loose guard and hesitate in his actions. While she sprang forth as fast as she could, delivering a coordinated strike to Kyle’s head.

As a royal space guard, she was usually wary of beasts not individuals. But something dark about Kyle had changed her narrative of the world she thought she knew.

"Wait! What type of game do have in mind?" Lucias stopped Kyle, buying some time in hopes of an opening to fire.

"I’m not sorry to say that offer has passed." Kyle bellowed with an evil smirk.

"P-please, you don’t have to kill me! I’ll do anything, just name your price. You can have it all." The young man screamed, tears strolling down his eyes.

He’d long lost connection with his body, once in contact with Kyle’s glowing red eyes. Which had some supernatural paralysis effects on him, pinning him in place.

"There’s nothing you can- oh wait." Kyle paused, a malevolent idea taking from in his head.

"You can offer me one thing." The demon spoke, causing the man’s hollow eyes to brighten.

"But I doubt it’ll be of any interest." He muttered, slightly shaking his head. Causing his expression to become solemn, whatever spark of hope he had disappeared.

"A-are you kidding? Of course I’m up for it! Name it, whatever you please. Money? Power? Women? Luxury? I-i have them all."

Not responding immediately, Kyle was amazed how low a man would stopp with his life on the line. To put it in short, he bargained with everything to entice Kyle.

"I just need an opening, just a tiny one." Lucias muttered, his finger never leaving the trigger button.

The way Kyle positioned the man’s body was in such a way xeblo shielded him. His back directed to the entrance which he came from, xeblo in front. Which was clever, making it difficult to fire with considering the huge chance of hitting xeblo.

’As expected of the victor of the tournament.’

"The possession of flesh and desire does not compel me, but the transition of one’s self." Kyle quoted a parable his cheeky system came up with seconds ago.

His tone deep and intimidating, with head held high and opposing all who dared despise him.

"Transition of one’s self? What does that even mean?" Brazen frowned, unable to decipher Kyle’s words. Glancing at melo, he saw the inquisitive man’s hand placed to his chin.

Mumbling some inaudible words, which could only mean one thing.

"Oh no~" A light gasp escaped melo’s mouth.

"You’ve translated the meaning?" Brazen asked, to which melo slowly nodded with a blank face.

"He wants his soul." Melo blurted out, prompting the atmosphere to turn heavy. The abrupt declaration made matters far worse.

"Soul as in literally his soul, or a figure of speech?" Someone expressed his thoughts.

"Either way, that’s one hell of a creepy demand." Another added with shuddered breaths.

"Yeah is he some kind of cultist or voodoo master?" The pregnant woman from earlier grimaced, touching her unborn child, taking some steps back.

’He rejected all of xeblo’s offer and directly inquired for his soul. Could he be a spy of those beasts all along or part of the occult individuals termed as the great liberators?’ Fiona pondered, recalling the old woman’s words before her passing.

The thought of the old hag deranged vision, starting to become a possible reality.

’H-he can’t possibly mean that- no, that would be absurd.’ Xeblo reasoned, his heart pounding against his chest in a distorted pattern.

"I-i’m not certain what you mean, could you please be more specific." The latter relayed with an awkward chuckle.

"Of course, I require your soul." Kyle came out strong without a waver in his tone as he spoke.

Making the crowd erupt in a frenzy of panic and horror. Their dread filled pupils shrinking at the sight of this tormented soul.

"To think they didn’t come more insane, another one tips the last." Layla frowned, Kyle’s irrationality far intense than any she’d came in contact with.

"But if I offer my soul I’ll die, that’s one sided. You’re insane!" Xeblo fumed, enraged by Kyle’s uttermost level of hysteria.

"Not my business." Inching the dark flames close, Xeblo could’ve sworn those unnatural flames reacted.

Moving with life, trying to latch on to his skin like a parasite. Causing his entire life flash before his eyes.

’Swoosh!’

An object cut through the air, hitting a portrait hung on the wall. Bouncing off it, deflected down to Kyle’s head.

[Watch out!] Snow yelled in trepidation, alerting Kyle just in time to shift his head to the side.

Right before the attack pierced through his skull.

’A stealth attack? No~ that was an energy bullet. But who could’ve shot it?’

The entire room has been scanned by snow beforehand, and the only traces of energy sources she picked up were from the beam beam blasters and energy handguns.

Equipped to the surviving dozens of space guards present. Not one civilian was assigned one, which he guessed revolved around the law in motion. Or simply they weren’t trained to handle such weapons.

[They are a set of rich spoilt mongers and deprived slaves with one purpose. Which is to serve.] Snow butted in his head.

And Kyle couldn’t deny he had somewhat sympathy towards them. The categories of peasant and commoners including him had no say or choice but to bow and obey.

Like a humble slave or face the dire consequences of insubordination. And then there were the few righteous lots among the nobles.

Burying their opinions in respect and fear of Troy.

"What’s all this noise!?" A sweet voice uttered, her tone laced with dyspepsia and annoyance.

The soft thuds of her heels echoing in the castle walls, making her way out from the crowd.

"I’m sorry for any disturbance caused miss Reze. It’s just, a peasant has decided to abduct a resident of the kingdom." Lucia’s explained to a fuming scientist.

Adjusting her glasses a bit, she crossed her arms to her proud bossoms. Contained in her tight fitting black dress, encompassed by her white coat. Her thin lips slightly curved downwards, only adding to her beauty while angry.

"And why didn’t you take the shot?" She questioned, with a piercing glare.

"B-because the abductee is a noble, we couldn’t afford the risk of jeopardizing his safety with a mistake." Layla hurriedly replied, earning a pout from the hot scientist.

"I see~" Turning her head to the center of the disturbance, her eyes moderately widened immediately recognizing the individual. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Kyle, w-what are you doing?" She demanded an answer.

"Oh! I simply suggested a little game to while away time, but apparently everyone seems tense for some reason." Kyle smiled, shifting his attention back to xeblo.

"I-isn’t that so, friend?" Maintaining a straight face, Xeblo focused really hard not to stare into Kyle’s eye.

Placing all his attention to Reze, betting his survival in her hands. "He’s completely lost it, kill him!" Xeblo yelled but regretted his actions the next moment.

Like a trance his body went limp, along with his mind blank. The void sensation inhabiting an undead brain, compelling Xeblo into nothing.

"That’s a shame, we could’ve had so much fun."

Not hesitating Kyle intentionally brought the flames to xeblo’s head. But before it could reach, the latter had suddenly disappeared from spot.

’What happened?’ Kyle questioned, dumbfounded what transpired.

Looking ahead, he could see Reze was also missing where she stood. A new individual present, dressed in complete sleek black fitted armour. That resembled universal space armour, worn by the guards.

Except he could tell this was more advanced than the former.

[That isn’t a foreigner but Reze, in what appears to be a more advanced version of the space armour. Be careful Kyle, I’m detecting a high concentration of mana encaged in that machine.] Snow warned.

"Stay back." Reze declared in a deep tone, dropping Xeblo behind her. Crawling back to the safety of the crowd, far back behind the commotion.

’Bastard didn’t even say thank you.’ Reze clicked her tongue, her attention fixed on Kyle.

"I thought a connection was beginning to form between us." She spoke in her normal tone, seductively placing her fingers together.

"I already told you, I’m married." Kyle replied with a sly grin. Making the genius scientist scoff in disgust.

"If I can’t have you in life then I’ll just settle for your corpse." She chuckled maniacally in a distorted tone.
