Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 568: It’s Either You Die or I Perish (4)
After the two children played until they were tired, the two adults, each carrying a child, walked back to the inn on foot. In the evening, after eating some food and washing up, they went to bed, each adult hugging a child, and slept soundly through the night.
Before dawn, Dugu Chen woke up and looked at the three sleeping faces on the bed. He quietly got up, freshened up, and began preparing the antidote. When he was almost done, Feng Xuxu woke up, opened her sleepy eyes, and, seeing him busy at the table, asked softly, "Do you really plan on giving the Princely Heir the antidote?"
"Yes, otherwise, how could we get our hands on those fifty thousand taels of Gold?"
"Ah, when can we finally get rid of them? Just seeing them makes me feel irritable," Feng Xuxu commented with a sigh as she got out of bed. After washing up, she felt much more awake.
Dugu Chen, looking down at the medicine, raised his eyes and smiled slightly at her, "It’s soon. We can leave after we get the Gold."
Feng Xuxu was astonished, "Really? But didn’t you just cure Prince Fu of his poison?"
"Curing him doesn’t mean I can’t poison him again!"
"You poisoned him again? When did that happen?"
"Hehehe, I’m a disciple of the Divine Doctor of Yin Nan. If I poison someone and you all see it, I’d have no place in this world," Dugu Chen said with a smile, clearly enjoying the admiration in his wife’s eyes at that moment.
Feng Xuxu rolled her eyes at him, "Cut it out, what’s so great about that?" She then turned and went to wake the two children on the bed.
The family of four had breakfast. When Dugu Chen saw it was about time, he instructed the children to wait at the inn, and then he and his wife left the inn.
Upon reaching Prince Fu Residence, they smoothly made their way to Prince Fu and handed over the medicine. After the Princely Heir took the medicine, it wasn’t more than the time it took to burn a stick of incense before he woke up. His eyes, somewhat hazy, opened and looked around the room, then at Dugu Chen with a frown. He was too weak even to speak, resting on the bed, his eyes fixed on Dugu Chen, clearly puzzled as to why there was a stranger in his bedroom.
Seeing that he was awake, Dugu Chen turned his gaze toward Prince Fu, "The Princely Heir is awake, but the poison is not fully cured. As usual, send the goods to the outskirts of the city, and when you do, you’ll get the rest of the antidote."
Without any reluctance, he turned and left. When he reached the courtyard, he was intercepted by the guards of the Prince Residence. Dugu Chen’s eyes narrowed coldly, and a murderous intent flashed as he looked back at Prince Fu, "What is the meaning of this, Prince?"
"Divine Doctor, please do not misunderstand; there is something I’d like to discuss with you," Prince Fu replied unhurriedly as he walked over, standing beside Dugu Chen with a smile while facing the angry Divine Doctor.
Dugu Chen’s eyes shifted slightly, and he responded with a cold laugh, "We have nothing to talk about."
"Oh~," the Prince said, as if he had expected this reply, and then added with a smile, "Don’t you want to hear what I have to say?"
"Heh, I’m not interested in the conversation, but I am interested in my Gold."
"As long as you cooperate with me, Gold won’t be an issue," Prince Fu said, seeing Dugu Chen stubborn as a mule, realizing that it might be easier to sway him with gold. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Dugu Chen looked back and gave a sarcastic smile, "I’m not interested in cooperation. I prefer to roam the martial world freely. Besides, I already have more Gold than I can count; I won’t miss yours." He paused, then added with emphasis, "What is mine, I will claim; what is not mine, I won’t take a penny."
Dugu Chen moved forward a few steps, then as if he remembered something, turned back to look at the stunned Prince Fu and said, "You better prepare my belongings, or the Princely Heir’s life hangs by a thread." He flung his sleeves fiercely and left, treating the guards as if they were mere air, not sparing them a glance, and strolled out of the Prince Fu Residence’s main gate with Feng Xuxu confidently by his side.
The butler watched the Prince’s purpling face and did not dare to approach, waiting instead for the Prince to speak.
After a while, when Prince Fu had regained his composure, he waved his hand, and the waiting guards each returned to their posts, leaving only the butler in the courtyard.
"Arrange for someone to deliver the goods. Once you’ve retrieved the pill, execute the doctor on the spot," Prince Fu ordered with a vicious look, glaring at the butler before chuckling coldly, "If he doesn’t die, there’s no need for you to come back."
"Yes, Prince," the butler knew that there was little chance of success in the assignment, but with the Prince’s mind set on murder, he left the courtyard dejected, sighed deeply under the sky, returned to his quarters, and after freshening up and changing into clean robes. When he reappeared in the courtyard, the horse-drawn carriage was ready.
"Let’s set off," he said, mounting the horse gracefully and leading the way.
The guards following the carriage were different from the ones before, their gazes more piercing, their murderous aura heavier, and the skin exposed outside their clothes paler.
When the butler and his entourage reached a small hill outside the city, they saw the Divine Doctor and the maid sitting leisurely waiting.
"Hehe, at least Prince Fu respects the schedule," Dugu Chen said, glancing at the guards and scoffing dismissively, "Haha, the Prince really went to great lengths, even sending Hidden Guards for the delivery."
The butler’s forehead beaded with sweat, and he managed a stiff smile, "The Gold has been delivered; where is the antidote?"
"Here, take it back with you." As the butler took the medicine and scrutinized it, he handed it over to a man behind him. When he turned back, the smile on his face had vanished, replaced with a look of resentment as he glared at them.
"Yin Nan, don’t blame me. It’s either your death or mine today."
"Are you sure about this? Because there’s no turning back," Dugu Chen replied calmly, not considering the threat significant.
"Hmph, blame your own arrogance," the butler stepped back and commanded, "Go, dead or alive."
The guards escorting the carriage changed demeanor instantly, no longer docile but showing their true colors. They drew their Treasured Swords and launched an attack on Dugu Chen, aiming for his vitals with lethal thrusts.
Dugu Chen didn’t dodge; instead, he advanced, seizing a sword from one of them. His wrist flicked, and he unfurled a twin lotus sword flower, cutting down several assailants nearby.
