"Damn it. It's true what they say: the good die young, but a scourge lasts a thousand years!" Yang Wucheng laughed heartily and pulled Zhang Guodong into a tight hug. Indescribable smiles lit up both their faces, a testament to their friendship.

At that moment, outside the jungle, a convoy of military vehicles rushed over. Soldiers disembarked in waves. At the head of the column was none other than Kang Cheng, with Chief of Staff Liang Kai right behind him.

"Move, everyone, move! The Commander is in there!" Kang Cheng shouted, drenched in sweat, as he led his men charging into the woods. Liang Kai and his troops followed close behind.

Meanwhile, hidden not far from the military vehicles, Okamoto Daisuke's expression turned incredibly sour. The plan was supposed to be foolproof, but it had been completely ruined. Even the final ninja's self-destruction had failed to kill Zhang Guodong, leaving Okamoto Daisuke furious.

"Zhang Guodong," Okamoto Daisuke muttered coldly, "count yourself lucky. But don't worry, I won't let you survive past tomorrow."

Afterward, he grabbed his laptop and quickly disappeared without a trace to prepare his next move. He was confident his backup plan would eliminate Zhang Guodong—unless the man was some kind of cold-blooded animal!

At the same time, Kang Cheng and Liang Kai led their men to Zhang Guodong's group. Seeing that Zhang Guodong was a bit disheveled but uninjured, Kang Cheng and Liang Kai finally breathed a sigh of relief. If something had happened to Zhang Guodong, they couldn't have lived with themselves.

"Alright, I'm fine. Liang Kai, take your men and lock this place down. Search for any possible clues," Zhang Guodong ordered gravely. "Also, check the bodies and see if there are any survivors." He was furious. It was pure luck that Lin Kuang had been there; otherwise, he would have been killed.

"Hold on. I'll go check if those two guys are still alive," Lin Kuang said. He hurried off, following the route from memory until he found where several of the Islanders lay.

There, two of them had been shot, but not in any vital spots. Seeing them, Lin Kuang breathed a sigh of relief. He gave them a couple of kicks, and the two men slowly regained consciousness.

The two men looked around in a daze. When they saw the bodies of their comrades on the ground and the surrounding Hua Country soldiers, they immediately understood: their mission had failed.

Just as they were about to commit suicide, Lin Kuang acted faster. He pinched their jaws and slapped them hard across the face. The slaps forced two small blue pills from their mouths—the poison they kept for suicide.

Obviously, these men were suicide agents. Only operatives of their kind would carry poison in their mouths to kill themselves upon capture. Luckily, Lin Kuang had forced the poison out just in time. If these two had died, all their leads would have vanished.

"Take them back for interrogation. Rough them up, but make sure they stay alive!" Zhang Guodong said coldly, looking at the two Islanders.

"Yes, Commander," Liang Kai replied respectfully, then had the soldiers behind him carry the two men away.

With that, Lin Kuang, Zhang Guodong, Yang Wucheng, and the others left, heading for the military district.

On the way, Lin Kuang kept his eyes closed and rested. He was significantly drained and needed to recover. After arriving at the military district, Lin Kuang didn't participate in the interrogation. Instead, he took a shower and returned to his room to recover his strength.

It wasn't until six in the evening that Lin Kuang finally opened his eyes. By then, color had returned to his face. Although he hadn't fully recovered, he was about seventy or eighty percent there, which was good enough.

"Whew, at least I've recovered a bit. Those Islanders sure are ruthless," Lin Kuang muttered to himself as he got out of bed, a murderous glint in his eyes.

Just then, there were footsteps outside, followed by a knock on the door.

"Come in," Lin Kuang said with a smile.

Sun Lei entered the room. "Instructor, Commander Yang and Commander Zhang are waiting for you in the conference room. The two commanders have requested your presence," Sun Lei said with a smile.

"Alright, let's go," Lin Kuang nodded. He followed Sun Lei out of the room and went straight to the conference room.

The only people inside were Yang Wucheng, Zhang Guodong, Liang Kai, and Kang Cheng. Upon entering, Lin Kuang promptly saluted. "Greetings, Commanders!"

"Enough with the formalities. Have a seat," Zhang Guodong said with a smile.

Lin Kuang nodded and sat down.

After Lin Kuang was seated, Liang Kai held up a report. "We just finished interrogating those two and got some information," he began. "They are indeed from the Island Country, and their operation was designed to assassinate Commander Zhang. We also learned that the planner is a man named Okamoto Daisuke. His current cover in Nanjing is that of a businessman. However, our investigation suggests he's very likely a spy from the Island Country."

"Is that all?" Lin Kuang asked calmly.

"No, there's more. We've already investigated their operational base, but it was clean," Liang Kai added. "We're currently searching for this Okamoto Daisuke, but have no leads yet. We're also running a deeper background check on his true identity and looking into everyone he's met recently. So far, nothing has come back."

Lin Kuang nodded. "Regardless of who this Okamoto Daisuke is, he's targeting Commander Zhang. Now that his first attempt has failed, he won't give up so easily. Besides, with Commander Zhang on high alert, another direct assassination attempt will be much more difficult. Therefore, I believe Okamoto Daisuke will make his move tonight. He knows you're searching for him, so he won't wait until tomorrow." After a moment's thought, Lin Kuang concluded his analysis, his gaze falling on Zhang Guodong.

Zhang Guodong frowned. "I'm on the military base. They can't just storm this place, can they? That would be a suicide mission."

"They won't come here," Lin Kuang said with a wry smile, "but what about your family? Considering the ruthless methods of the Island Country's people, using your family to threaten you is exactly the kind of thing they would do."

At these words, the color drained from Zhang Guodong's face, and his eyes filled with deep worry. He immediately pulled out his personal cell phone and dialed his home number.
