Urban System in America-Chapter 14 - : First Steps of a New Life
Chapter 14: Chapter 14: First Steps of a New Life
Rex was equally shocked and amazed.
He had assumed it was just an ordinary Camaro, but who would have thought that the system would give him such a big surprise?
Now, he could only say that system daddy was really system daddy.
He also faintly seemed to hear the system's satisfied hum.
On the other hand, upon hearing John's introduction, the arrogant kid named James wasn't just stunned, he was terrified. Sweat poured down his back, and his body seemed to tremble.
He knew that someone who could afford such an amazing car was definitely not someone he could provoke.
Seeing that everyone's attention was on the car, he slowly began backing away, like a thief trying to sneak off.
Others may not have noticed him, but the guy who had mocked him earlier immediately caught on.
Moving toward him and tapping his shoulder, he spoke sarcastically,
"Hey, where are you going? What were you saying earlier? I didn't hear you clearly."
James' face flushed red like a ripened tomato. Looking around, he saw that people's attention was focusing on him. Panicked, he hurried his pace and blurted out,
"Oh! I just remembered, My grandma is giving birth today, I gotta go check on her! Bye!"
Saying that, he bolted, leaving everyone stunned.
After a moment, they finally came back to their senses and burst into laughter, some laughing so hard that tears welled up in their eyes.
They were speechless at his shameless excuse. Who would have thought that he would end up in such an embarrassing situation?

Suddenly, hearing people laughing, Rex looked at the crowd curiously. He didn't understand why everyone was laughing all of a sudden.
He vaguely saw a student running away, but other than that, he had no idea what was going on.
Not bothering to figure it out, he simply shrugged and focused his attention back on his new car.
He took the documents from John and signed it, confirming that he had received the car. John handed him the keys with both hands, saluted, took the other staff with him and left.
Rex admired the streamlined body of the car for a moment before opening the door sliding into the driver's seat.
The comfortable leather seat immediately enveloped his body, as if it had been perfectly sculpted to fit him.
Looking around, he could see that from the hand-stitched leather seats, aluminum trim to the unique badging, every surface exuded meticulous craftsmanship.
The interior radiated both high performance and rare luxury.
Placing his hands on the steering wheel, he involuntarily gripped it tightly, unable to contain his excitement.
Taking a deep breath, he inhaled the fresh scent of a new car.
After savoring the moment, he finally managed to compose himself.
He inserted the key into the ignition and turned it.
The engine rumbled to life, and a deep, beastly growl reverberated through the air.
The sound sent waves of excitement through the gathered students, as if they had been injected with chicken blood.
Even the girls couldn't contain their excitement.
Sophia excitedly shook Daisy's arm and exclaimed,
"Hey Daisy! Did you hear that roar? Aaaah! I wish I could sit in a car like this too!"
"Aagh! Stop shaking me!" Daisy groaned. "I can hear it too, I'm not deaf! And it's not like you haven't ridden in luxury cars before.
"And don't many of your pursuers also drive luxury cars?"
"Hmph! Can they compare to this one?
Haven't you heard them say that this is the last car of its kind that will ever be made?"
With their broken cars and crooked faces, they dare to dream of someone as beautiful as me? Humph! They should stop daydreaming!" Sophie declared proudly, her chin almost reaching the sky.
"Okay, okay, stop being so narcissistic," Daisy said, amused by her friend's words.
Sophie continued dramatically,
"Man, if a boy with a car like this asked me out, I'd agree without hesitation! And if it were someone as handsome as him, Aaagh! That would be a dream come true!"
She shook Daisy even harder, as if she couldn't express her excitement without it.
By now, Daisy was almost dizzy and didn't know what to say.
Hannah, watching their antics, couldn't help but laugh. But seeing that Sophie was getting increasingly excited, she decided to step in.
"Okay, okay, we get it. Can you stop shaking Daisy? Look, she's about to faint! And anyway, it's not like you don't have a chance. Isn't he a student at our university? We can find out more about him and then, maybe, even ask him out."
Hearing this, Sophie's eyes lit up, and she finally stopped shaking Daisy.
As Daisy came back to her senses, she cracked her knuckles menacingly, and her expression was a bit scary too.
Noticing the change in Daisy, Sophie ran toward the university without hesitation.
Daisy chased after her, yelling,
"Sophie! Stop right there! I promise I'll control myself and try not to break any bones!"
Hearing that, Sophie ran even faster.
Soon, both she and Daisy disappeared.
Seeing both girls disappearing from view, Hannah didn't know what to say, she just kept her head down due to embarrassment and hurried after them.

Hearing the roar of the engine, Rex excitedly stepped on the accelerator.
With an even louder roar, the tires squealed, and the car shot forward.
The sudden acceleration pressed him firmly into the leather seat due to inertia.
The students watched as the car disappeared with a roar leaving behind a cloud of dust, then slowly dispersed.
Some excitedly discussing the car, others reviewing the pictures and videos they had managed to capture. A few walked away with envy and jealousy written all over their faces.
Rex gradually slowed down since he was in the city.
As the scenery blurred past, he gradually slowed down, enjoying the sensation of power beneath him.
The sun shone brightly, yet the car seemed to devour all the light, leaving behind only a dark, beastlike silhouette accompanied by the deep growl of its engine.
Other drivers on the road stared enviously. Even though luxury and rare cars were common in LA, seeing one on the road was a rare sight, as most people preferred to keep such valuable vehicles in their garages.
After taking a lap around the area and feeling the raw power of the car, Rex slowly returned to the university and carefully parked it.
By now, fewer students were around since most were in class.
As for him, he didn't care, he had already missed so many classes, what difference would another one make?
Besides, he already had a perfect excuse ready.
After stepping out of the car and tidying himself up, he walked toward the administrative building.
He hadn't forgotten his promise to Uncle Johnson. So, he was going to prove that he had kept his word and was serious this time.
As he approached the building, he couldn't help but feel a bit nervous—it was the first time he was meeting someone familiar with his past self.
Standing before the entrance, he took a deep breath and reminded himself,
'What is meant to happen will always happen. Hesitation or fear won't change that. I can't keep running away from people who knew me before. Eventually, I'll have to face them.'
With that thought, he exhaled deeply and entered the building with a confident stride.
At that moment, something in his mentality seemed to shift. He immediately felt more relaxed—all his fear and hesitation left behind.
The administrative building had a formal, classical style, with high-quality materials evident from the floors to the ceilings and grand columns.
Students and staff bustled about, making the place feel busy.
As he walked past the reception desk, a young woman quickly stopped him.
"Hey, student! Where are you going? The upper floors are an administrative area—you need permission to enter."
Rex stopped in his tracks and turned to look at the young lady. It seemed to be the first time he had been stopped.
His previous self used to come here often, and everyone knew he was related to the Vice Chancellor, so no one had ever dared to stop him.
Seeing him staring at her, the young lady involuntarily blushed but still tried her best to remain calm.
"Are you talking to me?" Rex asked curiously.
"Yes, that is an administrative area. You can't go in without permission. If you have any questions, you can ask me," she said seriously.
"You don't recognize me?" Rex asked, raising his eyebrows slightly with a playful smile.
Hearing his question, the young lady was stumped. She looked at him carefully, he did seem a bit familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had seen him before.
She was also confused. There was no way she would have forgotten such a handsome guy if she had met him before. Yet, she couldn't seem to recall him.
She hurriedly shook her head cutely and replied, "No, this is my first time seeing you."
Rex was amused by her reaction and said, "My name is Rex Lee, and I'm going to meet Uncle Johnson. Do you remember anything now?"

Hearing the name "Rex," she was stunned.
She clearly remembered what Rex looked like, and while he was handsome, he definitely didn't look like the man standing in front of her.
"I know Rex, but he doesn't look like this. Are you trying to trick me by using his name?" she asked confidently, as if she had seen through his deception.
Rex immediately understood, it must be due to the appearance boost he got from the system that she couldn't recognize him.
Well, he couldn't blame her. His appearance had changed significantly.
"Haha, I really am Rex Lee. It's just that I haven't been here in a while, and I've also been taking better care of myself.
Here, you can check my driver's license if you don't believe me," he said, showing her his license.
Why a driver's license instead of an ID card? Because in America, almost everyone has a driver's license, and it's commonly used as a primary identification document.
She examined the license, then looked at Rex carefully and finally found some similarities.
Smiling awkwardly, she immediately apologized, "I'm sorry, Mr. Rex. It's my fault for not recognizing you. I've been feeling under the weather lately. I truly apologize."
"It's not a big deal. Even I know I've changed a bit in the past few months. Just don't mistake me next time," he said in a relaxed tone.
"Definitely! I'll remember it to heart and never forget it till my death," she answered seriously.
Rex laughed at her dramatic response. "No need to be so serious, just let me pass next time."
"Okay, definitely!" she replied hurriedly.
Rex simply nodded and walked towards the elevator.
As for why the young lady was suddenly so polite to him. It was because his previous self used to come here often, and almost everyone knew he was related to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Naturally, she was afraid of offending him.
