Way of Overlord-Chapter 290: Changes in the Steppe
Chapter 290: Changes in the Steppe
And Aeryon intend to put this force that many people did not see, to be in his favour, to be in debt with him, to be grateful to him.
Hence there is a large temple, dedicated to Skyfather and the Earth Mother in this city.
But this place is only for the Ashana. Most people of the tribe still meet the Ashana in the Ashana tent
The temple is just for when the Ashana needs to meet each other. The Ashana itself is not a symbol of worship.
They are a guide.
The name Ashana itself could be interpreted as Guider.
They are the guide but the choice has always been in the hands of those who listens to the guide.
And when the Ashana guides you, they listen to the wind, listen to the grass, feel the earth, sense the Heavens and who knows whether they listen to the divine words of the Skyfather or whether they heard the dark whispers of those beings in the Darkness.
Some people look onto the Ashana simply to know what kind of path that they could be walking in
But they should not be someone that you should listen and obey and it is not something that the Ashana itself encourage.
They hears these words; these uninterpretable words of the heaven and earth and they always caution the listener to judge with their minds and their hearts.
All they could do is just speak the words that they listen to
That is Ashana. They are respected. Revered in some cases.
But never worshipped. And Aeryon himself did not want to create such a religious figure among his subject.
That did not stop him from trying to win the support of the Ashana towards his cause. One day when he could shout his ambition to the world, he needs all the support he could get.
Aeryon knows that in the Steppe, there is all kinds of belief and faith and Aeryon did not want to alienate the other.
In religion and faith, Aeryon chooses the same path as Genghis Khan.
And there is also a new development that occurs. The building of a home that is different from the homes of the Steppe
The people of the Steppe usually constructed ger like houses. It allows mobility. But now, there is Yan people among the people that Aeryon had captured.
Aeryon did not give them freedom other than those craftsman and people who willingly surrender to him
And Aeryon also have the idea of settling here. Or at least created a city like Karakorum.
This would be a city that connects and block Yan.
If he close the door, then it blocks Yan. If he opens it , it would open the northern road.
Yan of course could always circumvent the northern road and goes from the Western Zhou side. But that would not only take time, they would also have to compromise with Western Zhou to allow them to move in their land unrestricted
Which is something that Western Zhou would never do.
Aeryon however did not allow courtyard homes to be bult. Even though this area where he built the city is not that far from Yan, tit is damper and it is colder.
It is still part of the Great Steppe and have all the harshness of the Great steppe features
But Aeryon created homes that is like the homes in England in his world.
Not to mention Aeryon is more familiar with such houses.
A European like house with some features of Yan and the Great Steppe.
The details might be added more when the livelihood of the people in this city increases and when there is long peace
For now, the homes is barebones but it already have that feature that Aeryon recognizes.
Some of them uses stones as foundations. Even some high-ranking members of his military is fond of such houses.
Of course, most of these people are rich people.
Aeryon sell some of the stones he have but it is also because the stones that they have is numerous after their raid toward Nurshira
Not to mention that there are some tribes that plundered the countryside of Yan after Aeryon prove that it could be done.
And the people of the Steppe began to gradually realize that the Yan is not that strong. They always say that a Yan person is equal to five barbarians
This is a great propaganda effort.
At that time, it is not entirely wrong.
Because at that time, the people of the Great Steppe did not wear armour over their body.
And the soldiers of Yan wears armor and with sharp sword how could the people of the Steppe fight against such a soldier.
So, the words is true. But the people of the Steppe is not a stupid block of wood that could not learn
They might not write, their education is not systematic, but the brains they have is the same
What they could think, the people of the Steppe could also think of.
But countless years of oppression , countless years of brutalization, enslavement, create these impression that these Yan people are strong when they are actually brittle.
They are the kind of people who is brave when they are strong but coward when they are weak. They do not stand for anything, as they are more like the weed that is blown by the wind.
They just follow the wind. Justice, righteousness, loyalty, filial piety all of these great sounding slogans are a method of control of the powerful especially for the ruling people of Yan.
And when Aeryon broke that city last year, it broke the myth of Yan invincibility.
It is like you see God bleeds.
God does not bleed. But if He bleeds, then nobody is going to fear this god ever again. Because this god could be killed.
This is the disadvantage of using such method of propaganda. You could always paints yourself as invincible warrior. But one thing that must not happen is that, if you held yourself up so high, then the harder the fall
Aeryon was just a catalyst. He kickstarted it. And since then, Sirong, Songnu, and many other tribes in Yan that lives high in mountain deep in forest, hidden in caves began coming out.
And the tribes in the Great Steppe even coordinated with this tribe and hit villages and small cities. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Now, all over the Steppe, anyone near the border would break through the wall of Yan easily.
Corruption, lack of care by the rulers, misappropriation of funds by the officers and officials of the Yan empire made it very easy for the tribes of the Great Steppe to break through the wall.
And once they break through the wall, there is no powerful enough force to attack them.
And if by some chance some capable officer manage to bring up enough soldier to attack their position, the people of the great Steppe would simply run away.
And then hit again.
The strength of the people of the tribes is the use of horse.
The Yan strength lies in their production ability and in their ability to craft high quality weapons and armour.
Why clash with their strength? What the people of the Steppe should do is to leverage their strength and hit out at the Yan weakness.
Since they are slow, then use swift speed to overwhelm them.
When they come near, scatters.
When they are far away from the main formation, gather ,surround them and pick them.
Rinse and repeat.
The same tactics but works every time.
And because of this boom, this trend of hitting on Yan dynasty northern countryside among the tribes of the Great Steppe there is now many new rich people in the Southern great Steppe that could trade their items with merchants and traders that frequent Brolgadhr tribe and even sell stuff to Aeryon
The things that they got from Yan, they sold it toward him and his tribe. Aeryon traded stones and other resources with food, grain and meat
In the week that has passed there is many new people that has joined the tribe.
Many of the clans and small tribes that was undecided before, is now no longer so undecided.
Many of them could see now that trying to defy the Kan would not end in good ending and so many of them had surrendered.
This added even more warriors to Aeryon army and people that could work.
And that is not the only development that has happened.
Now, that the coldness of winter has no longer possess such a threat to the livelihood of the tribes, some affiliated tribes of the Brolgadhr organize an expedition toward Yan.
They assemble a few thousand men and they raid the Yan countryside and took men, women, and resources.
For the men and women, they sold it to the Kan trading people for resources.
Aeryon himself did not lack resources but he does lack people
And so, there is more people.
Some of them are people of Yan. These are the people Aeryon and his tribe had captured. And the other batches are people that he bought from the other chief that also follow his expeditions.
Then there is the slaves that Aeryon brought from the clans that went to the south for the riches of Yan
Some of them from Sirong and Songnu tribe.
