What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 100: Base Building Has Already Begun
The Vanguards and most of the military went back that night.
Since the rift was already cleared, there was no reason for them to hang around anymore so they’ve already pulled out from the island.
Some of the military personnel were left behind to do the cleanup and securing the corpses of the Anomalies for transport but aside from them, most of them had already left.
Originally, they wanted to leave even more people behind but Olivia rejected the idea as we still weren’t sure if there were spies that could have infiltrated into the military as well.
In fact, part of the reason why we let the military join us was so that we could check if any of them might try to assassinate me which would confirm the presence of spies within our own military.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen though it could also just mean that they were not activated to do so or they did not get the opportunity to even make an attempt.
Either way, we still can’t trust anyone else right now.
Officially speaking, we would be staying behind on the island to support the mining process which made sense since there were a lot of Mana Crystals to be mined and they needed me and my Guardians around to prevent them from transforming into Anomalies.
Since they would need to cross a body of water to reach the mining spot, they have arranged to arrive the day after tomorrow to start mining the Mana Crystals.
Conversely, the military would also vacate the premises tomorrow so the island would be left alone for at least a day before mining operations start.
Which was good for us because the truth was that we wanted as few people as possible to be on the island at any time so that the knowledge that we were going to make this island our base would not be leaked until we were ready to reveal it.
And that was turning out to be a difficult thing to do because...
"How?" I muttered, staring at the sight in front of me.
"Forgive me, my Lord... I should have paid more attention to them."
In front of me was the space that we had designated to house the building that would be our main base of operations in the future.
It was supposed to be an empty field and I certainly remember it being an empty field before we entered the rift but now... It looks like a giant hole has been dug and foundations had already been laid down in preparation for some large building to be erected there.
The people responsible were currently sitting in a seiza position in a row in front of me as I looked at the giant hole.
"I’m not mad... I’m just surprised," I admitted.
The bunny girls had been so excited about building the base that they already finished digging a hole to lay the foundations in the span of time that took us to clear the rift.
This would have taken a construction company with full manpower at least a few days to a few weeks to complete and yet they’ve quite literally finished doing this in a single day.
Olivia turned to eye them, "Didn’t I specifically tell you girls not to start construction until we give you the approval to do that?"
Sagia shifted her gaze around nervously, "We... Went through all the architecture courses you gave us and we couldn’t sit still... At first we wanted to just test it out but we got a little too excited and... That happened..."
The bunny girls looked at the giant hole that they had dug out in a single day.
Yeah... If this was them just being a ’little too excited’, I don’t want to know what would happen if they had been very excited instead.
I turned to Olivia, "Would we be able to cover it up before other people notice this giant hole in the ground?"
Olivia, in turn, directed her gaze to the bunny girls, "Can you cover this up by tonight? No... In the next hour?"
Oh come on, Olivia... I think even that is too big of an ask for them...
Unexpectedly, Sagia quickly nodded her head, "Yes! Don’t worry! We will make sure that this hole is covered as soon as possible!!"
Well... I guess if they could dig up a giant hole and build foundations in less than a day... They could probably also cover up the hole in that time as well...
That was when Maylene suddenly spoke up, "Umm... You are Qing, right?"
Both Olivia and I froze.
Just saying, I was still wearing my mask that hid my face, so to them, I was the Mortal God that just showed up and this was basically our first meeting.
That’s why they were acting so formal earlier with us.
I looked at Olivia and she seemed to be contemplating if it would be better for me to reveal myself and she eventually let out a sigh.
"I suppose at this point, it’s better for them to know, my Lord."
I shrugged and took off the mask, revealing my face to them.
Maylene gasped, "I knew it! You’re the only one who she would call ’my Lord’!"
Well... I guess that was pretty evident if you knew what to look for... And it’s not like I changed a lot aside from just wearing a mask that hid my face...
Olivia then shot her a look, "Now that you know, please treat my Lord with the proper respect. I only tolerated the discourtesy so far because we are keeping his identity hidden."
Maylene faltered as a worried look crossed her face.
I waved at her, "It’s fine... I think this actually helps us since it would help hide my identity instead, wouldn’t it? If they act respectful and formal in front of me, people could just figure it out from that. So just treat me like usual."
Olivia lowered her head, "If that is what my Lord wishes. But as mentioned, his identity has to be kept a secret so I expect all of you not to leak that out. This is a secret that is bigger than anything else and if it is found that you leaked it, I cannot guarantee that your people will still be allowed to stay."
The bunny girls in front of me shuddered from the not so veiled threat.
Sagia quickly raised her hand, "You don’t need to worry! We won’t share what we just saw here with anyone else!"
Geez Olivia... Look what you’ve done... They’ve all been scared stiff... Even their ears look droopy now...
I couldn’t help myself and reached out to pat their heads, "Don’t worry too much. I trust you girls on this. In fact, we would be relying on you girls quite a lot too, since you would be basically building all this stuff for us."
They seemed surprised by the sudden touch but it seemed like I made the right choice as they quickly recovered from their earlier worry and even started jumping around excitedly.
"Leave it to us, Qing!! Ah... I mean... Mortal God! We will make sure to build the best home for you!"
Well... It isn’t exactly a home but I guess I would be stationed here so it could be considered a second home for me...
Now I have a question though...
"Do you have a plan drawn up on how this place would look like?" I asked.
The bunny girls all turned to Inies, the blue haired sister of the group.
She adjusted her glasses before taking out a tablet to tap on it before flipping it over to show both of us the screen.
On it was a picture of a skyscraper that looked like a sword piercing into the sky. It was at least several hundred metres in height and I have a feeling that this would make it visible from anywhere on the island.
In fact, this would probably be also visible from the mainland too, not that it’s a hard thing to achieve considering how close we were.
But for a tower of this size... I would expect that construction would take at least a few years so...
I raised an eyebrow at them, "How long would you even need to build something like that?"
Netty grinned and flicked her red hair to the side, "If we have all the materials and tools, we can have it up and done in a week!!"
What?!
I pointed at the picture, "You’re telling me you can build something like this in just a week?"
"That’s right! We’re pretty confident we can do it!"
I turned to look at Olivia and she was also giving me the same look of disbelief.
Well... I guess we’ll have to see if that’s true or not... But first we have to finish mining the Mana Crystals before they can start so... I guess time will tell...
