Chapter 101: Iโ€™m Moving Out Soon

The mining proceeded as normal and I got to watch the machines mine away on the Mana Crystals. ๐’ป๐“‡๐‘’๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ๐‘’๐’ท๐“ƒโ„ด๐‘ฃ๐˜ฆ๐‘™.๐’ธโ„ด๐˜ฎ

The Gatekeeper was still stuck in the centre of the cavern until we could mine out the entrance to move it so it remained where it was all this time.

Iโ€™ve got to say though, seeing the faces of the miners when they saw the cavern full of Mana Crystals was definitely funny.

I was only there for the first part though, as the miners would be fine with my Guardians as well since they also have my blessing now to protect others from the miasma.

We still had to keep an eye out for stray Anomalies since the place wasnโ€™t completely clear of them yet but my Guardians should be able to handle them on their own.

Under normal circumstances, we would have also gotten Vanguards here to help guard the place but... Given that we were being cautious about spies, we had to keep the number of outsiders low.

Some people might criticise us for putting the miners in unnecessary danger but we couldnโ€™t announce the truth so we had to just take the criticism.

Olivia told me that the mining operation would take about an entire week so they would be working in shifts to guard the miners.

As for me... I didnโ€™t need to be included in the shift rotation given my position but I was free to join them if I wanted to.

Thus, I decided to return back home in the meantime but I did tell them to give me a call if they needed me and I would teleport there as soon as I could.

This time, I gave my family a call first before I returned unlike the last time where I just dropped in.

Once again, I created the door that teleported me to the park and bid my Guardians farewell before I jumped through it.

The door disappeared behind me and I took a moment to look around the park, trying to come to terms with the fact that just a few days ago, I was in a life or death battle inside a rift at the bottom of a chasm.

Now... Iโ€™m standing in the middle of a park where everything looked normal and people around me were just going about their daily life without worry of an Anomaly attacking them.

I made my way back home and when I opened the door, I was met with a certain sister flying straight towards me.

"Wahhh! Youโ€™re back, Gor Gor!!" She cheered, hugging me tightly.

I patted her on the head, "Iโ€™m back... But didnโ€™t I come back just a few days ago?"

She looked up and grinned cheekily, "Ehehehe~ It still feels like a long time for me~"

"Let me guess... You ran out of pudding and mother didnโ€™t let you get any."

"Ya lor1! So did you get any for me?"

I sighed and lifted up the plastic bag I was holding in my hand, having gone to get some before I came back.

She immediately released me and snatched the plastic bag from my hand to run off, "Yayyy!! Love you, Gor Gor!!"

I sighed again and took off my shoes before stepping into the house, right as my mother peeked out from the kitchen.

"Back already ah? Got eat or not?"

"Breakfast, yes."

"Mmm... I preparing lunch now, go and wash up first."

"Whereโ€™s dad?"

"At work lah. Where else?" She answered gruffly before disappearing back into the kitchen.

I did as she asked and went to my room to put down my things first before I went to take a shower.

When I emerged wearing a fresh set of clothes, the table was already set and both my mother and sister were waiting for me at the table.

I took my usual seat at the table, settling down heavily with a sigh.

My mother immediately clicked her tongue at me, "Tell you how many times not to sigh liao1? Sighing is bad for you!"

I waved my hand before I started picking up food from the plates into my bowl of rice, "Yes, yes. Iโ€™m just tired."

My sister immediately turned to me, "Oh yeah! How did it go, Gor Gor?"

"As you can see from the fact that Iโ€™m still here, it went pretty well. I believe they already reported it on the news didnโ€™t they?"

"Yah, but they only interviewed the Vanguards on the mainland, they never go to the island so we didnโ€™t see you."

Ah... We were rejecting unrelated visitors which included media teams from visiting since it would complicate matters if they were to find out about the bunny girls... I believe we did send Olivia and Kris over to the mainland to be interviewed by the reporters to tell them about our success in the capture though.

"I was busy..." I told her vaguely.

"Mmm~ So will you be going back there again?"

I paused for a moment before nodding, "Itโ€™ll be announced in a week or so so I think itโ€™s fine to tell you all... But please keep this a secret until itโ€™s official."

Mother frowned at me, "What is it? Are you in trouble? If you are, just stop doing that dangerous work."

I shook my head, "No, no... We are planning to make St. Johnโ€™s Island our base of operations so I would probably make that place my residence in the future..."

My sister gave me an incredulous look, "Haaa? I thought that place was like... Abandoned or something? Still got things there meh1?"

I gave her a look, "First of all... The place was abandoned, not destroyed. There are still facilities left on the island in case you didnโ€™t know. Second of all, we would be building new facilities there to turn the entire island into our base. So there will be living and work spaces there."

My mother seemed to understand what I was trying to say almost immediately, "You are going to stay there?"

I nodded, "They expect everyone involved to stay on the island, yes."

My sister let out a groan, "Ahhh? I thought you wonโ€™t need to leave home after their whole building got blown up... Now you tell me youโ€™re going to go stay on an island instead?"

I shrugged, "Itโ€™s not like Iโ€™m migrating to another country... In fact... Since Iโ€™m a Guardian now, I would be expected to travel around the world to deal with other rifts too. The only reason I havenโ€™t gone yet is because of that terrorist incident which pushed back our plans. Once we get the new headquarters up and running, weโ€™ll go back to the original plan."

"Ha? So they going to build more stuff there? How long is that going to take sia1?"

"Last I heard, once they are done mining the Mana Crystals... Itโ€™ll take a week. Which means everything should be set up and ready in the next two weeks?"

"So fast?! What are they building to finish in two weeks?! Some random shacks?!"

"They have people there that have abilities that help them with construction. In fact, I already saw that they finished digging out and laying the foundations for the main building in a single day. So I would say finishing it in a week is actually possible."

My sister leaned on her elbow, "You sure or not, Gor Gor? Are they scamming you?"

"I saw it with my own eyes and Iโ€™ve seen the people in charge of the construction project and what theyโ€™re capable of, so I donโ€™t think they are scams, sister."

She hummed though it doesnโ€™t look like sheโ€™s convinced.

I get that she doesnโ€™t want me to move out since she prefers the entire family staying together but... Even if I wasnโ€™t the Mortal God, I would still have to move out as a Guardian anyway...

On the other hand, Mother didnโ€™t seem too surprised as she gave me a serious look, "You will have days off or not?"

I blinked before scratching my head, "I... Didnโ€™t ask."

"They got give you an employment contract or not?"

"Err... No... But I guess itโ€™s because they have not set up the new department yet. Since... You know... They want to operate as an independent organisation under the Mortal God instead of being directly under a government ministry."

"Hmmm... When they make you sign the contract, make sure to read properly hor1. Donโ€™t sign without reading it. Also make sure to ask about insurance and also their health benefits."

I sighed again, "Yes mom... You donโ€™t need to worry..."

Great... Iโ€™ll probably need to ask Olivia to draft up an employment contract for me as well just to show my mom to put her at ease...

Sometimes sheโ€™s just too careful for my liking...

Oh well... Thereโ€™s a reason why sheโ€™s my mother I guess.

Anyway... Home cooked food is still the best~ Iโ€™m going to savour this while I still can~
