When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 45 - 0: Let Him Be Warmed by This Sun
Jiang Shuyao ignored him the whole way, and while waiting at the bus station, some shameless guy pointed at another boy and asked her, "Yaoyao, do you think he’s handsome or am I?"
"..."
The boy being pointed at was somewhat baffled. He looked over displeased, but before he could speak, he recognized the voice and his expression immediately changed.
"Brother Yan, what a coincidence, are you also waiting for the bus here?"
The boy was wearing a Yunzhong school uniform. She didn’t know from which class, but his careful, ingratiating manner greatly discomforted Jiang Shuyao.
Then, quite sensibly, she moved a bit to the side, distancing herself from the two.
Pei Yan casually glanced at the boy, no recognition in his mind, and dismissively took his gaze back, lazily walking towards the girl.
The boy awkwardly touched his nose. Soon, his ride-share arrived. He hesitated but still greeted Boss Pei before quickly getting in the car and leaving.
Then four buses arrived in succession, and the platform suddenly cleared out. Pei Yan just stood there, tearing open a pack of gum, and said to her, "No one’s around now, answer my earlier question."
Jiang Shuyao frowned in silence, "Aren’t you childish."
The night breeze swept by, casting a chill that made her unconsciously step back and cover her cold cheeks. Her dense, long lashes fluttered under the streetlight, as beautiful as a butterfly.
Warmth flickered through Pei Yan’s eyes as he watched a mist form in the depths of the girl’s eyes. His expression lazy, he started to undo his shirt buttons one by one.
Butterflies are beautiful, yet not very cold-resistant. They needed his sun to keep them warm.
Jiang Shuyao realized what he was intending to do and hastily protested, "Don’t be crazy, I’m not cold."
Pei Yan’s movements were swift. In a moment, he had taken off his jacket to drape over her.
His lean arms circled her from behind, fastening the top button near her collar and giving the top of her head a casual rub, "What’s there to be shy about? I’m not a stranger."
Jiang Shuyao’s cheeks were truly a bit red, "Just put it on, I told you I’m not cold." She reached to pull off the jacket.
But his hand, firm as a hoop, clamped down on her collar, his tone commanding, "I haven’t smoked in a long while, the clothes aren’t stinky, just fragrant, smell it if you don’t believe."
It was a subtle scent of cedarwood mixed with his hormonal fragrance, pleasant yet it embarrassed her.
Previously, she might have accepted it openly, but after that night, Jiang Shuyao was always afraid that the rascal might suddenly pierce through that barrier of pretense, making her extra sensitive.
Pei Yan was much taller, nearly blocking all the light when he stood in front of her. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
In the shadows, she gently looked up, his sturdy chest before her. Just in a T-shirt, his body continuously radiated heat.
Jiang Shuyao’s face reddened further, she unconsciously turned her face away and stepped back, "Can you just wear the jacket back when the bus arrives?"
"I checked earlier, it won’t come that soon."
Speaking, Pei Yan looked into the distance, then his face stiffened. Route 505 was slowly heading their way.
He silently unlocked his phone and hit a negative review on a freshly downloaded app.
Then he stuffed his hands in his pockets and reminded Jiang Shuyao, "I don’t have any change, you’ll have to throw in for both of us later."
Right then, the bus pulled into the station.
Jiang Shuyao rummaged through her backpack, only found three coins, though they needed four dollars for both.
Resigned, she looked at Pei Yan, "Just download Tianfu Pass on your phone, recharge it, and scan it."
The bus started moving, the driver signaled for them to move away from the door. Jiang Shuyao, noticing no movement behind her, thought he was downloading Tianfu Pass.
But a few seconds later, she heard the driver exclaim, "Young man, the bus can’t make change."
Jiang Shuyao quickly turned back and saw Pei Yan calmly pull out a red banknote from his wallet and toss it in. She twitched with the urge to smack him.
Such a wastrel.
Riding the bus for years, never had she seen someone so flippant with money—a Mao convincingly grabbed the attention of everyone onboard.
The bus was warm. Jiang Shuyao then remembered she was still wearing Pei Yan’s jacket. She found a spot to stand, then freed one hand to take off the jacket, preparing to give it back to him.
