Chapter 491: Chapter 491: Purification

In the two days since the floating airship arrived, Wizard Herbert did not rush to attack.

He knew well that facing such unknown alien nests, a rash attack could bring unforeseeable risks, possibly even triggering violent retaliations or self-destruction of the nest, leading to pollution spread.

Herbert first dispatched multiple squads composed of wizards skilled in stealth, reconnaissance, and detection, carrying various detection witchcraft artifacts and instruments, to conduct a thorough reconnaissance of the surrounding area centered around the mother nest.

These reconnaissance efforts were far more meticulous than Duke’s earlier observations.

When the reconnaissance results were compiled before Herbert, the situation was graver than expected.

In just five days, the mother nest had expanded by nearly one-third compared to when Duke initially discovered it.

The dark purple fungal carpet spread out like a living organism, engulfing more land and vegetation.

The number of incubation chambers increased by two, and the insect units being nurtured inside were visibly larger, with carapaces glistening with a darker sheen, evidently hatching more advanced species.

More noteworthy was that the defense system around the nest had become more complete.

Besides the previously seen spore cannons and patrol teams, the reconnaissance squads also discovered hidden explosive insects buried under the fungal carpet and some entanglement towers capable of shooting sticky webs to restrict movement.

The frequency of the pulsations of the mother nest accelerated, the wormhole above was still unstable, but the flickering intervals seemed to be shortening, indicating its connection to the distant mother nest was strengthening.

"We can’t wait any longer." Wizard Herbert, looking at the distribution of enemy forces and defense nodes on the data, made a decision. "We must completely annihilate it before it hatches more troublesome units and the wormhole connection stabilizes."

Based on the detailed reconnaissance data, a battle plan named Purification Fire was swiftly formulated.

The core of the plan was not brute force assault, but precise strikes and root elimination.

On the third day, at dawn.

Operation began.

Initially, several wizards skilled in witch arrays cooperated silently to set up a massive spatial isolation witch array around the nest basin.

This witch array was not intended to trap the insect race but to block spatial fluctuations, preventing the mother nest from transmitting any core material through the wormhole at the final moment or sending distress signals to the outside, while also inhibiting to some extent any potential violent energy explosions’ impact on the surrounding environment.

Next, twelve heavy duty magic-guided cannons, specially enchanted and with very long range, were set up on the high ground at the edge of the basin.

Their muzzles were not aimed at the insect race guards but precisely locked on several critical incubation chambers and spore cannons within the basin, the charging hum low and deadly.

Simultaneously, a special eradication team led personally by Wizard Herbert sneaked to the predetermined attack position at the basin’s edge.

This team consisted of no other wizards, but only Herbert himself and the twelve elite slave creatures of level two or above personally selected and commanded by him.

Their target was clear, the mother nest itself and the unstable wormhole.

In the next moment, the art of war was displayed in the most concise and efficient manner.

Twelve thick beams containing destructive energy cut through the dawn sky like the hands of death, hitting the incubation chambers and spore cannons kilometers away with precise accuracy.

Continuous explosions instantly echoed throughout the basin, those flesh towers birthing insects were torn apart in dazzling light, and the stinking tissue liquid and unformed insect remains scattered everywhere.

The spore cannons did not even have time to fire, reduced to burning wreckage under precise point shots.

The strikes of the heavy magic-guided cannons were extremely restrained, energy concentrated to explode at one point, minimizing the spread to surrounding fungal carpet areas, avoiding the possible large-scale toxic material diffusion.

Nearly at the moment the cannon strikes rang out, the eradication team moved.

Wizard Herbert led the charge, raising his hand, pressing lightly towards the area swarming with insect guards within the basin.

An invisible, terrifying gravity field descended instantly.

All insects within its range, whether blade bugs on the ground, spitting bugs, or floating guards in the low air, froze in motion, as if pressed by an invisible giant mountain, their carapaces moaning under unbearable pressure, then in a series of cracking sounds, were crushed, squashed.

The terrifying strength of a Level 3 Mage was fully displayed.

Insects within the range of the magic were crushed into pieces, instantly clearing a path leading to the mother nest.

The twelve slave creatures moved too, what followed was their task of extermination.

Four mountain rhinos charged like precise command-driven war machines in a wild rampage.

Their heavy hooves made the earth tremble, using the path cleared by the gravity field, directly knocking flying, smashing flat any remaining or newly surging insects, forcibly carving a bloody path through the insect sea.

Named Shadow Hunters, the slave creatures moved ghost-like through the shadows, requiring no micro-command from Herbert, their predatory instincts guiding them precisely towards potential explosive insects and binding towers attempting side-launch acid or self-explosion, tearing these threats easily with claws and fangs.

...

Wizard Herbert himself walked behind this rampaging slave creature squad, with steady steps.

Occasionally, he would raise his hand, adding an invisible force field shield to block stray acidic attacks.

Or once again deploying small-scale gravity squeeze, instantly clearing dense clusters of insects.

His movements were easy and leisurely, as if not on a battlefield, but inspecting his territory.

The entire advancing process was completely under his own will domination, with the twelve slave creatures acting as perfect extensions of his limbs.

The eradication team encountered almost no decent obstruction, charging right into the core area of the mother nest.

Facing the huge mother nest that continuously pulsed, emitting evil life vibes, Wizard Herbert’s gaze didn’t waver the least.

With both hands held out, a highly condensed, internally flickering with countless fragmented spatial fissures black energy ball quickly formed in front of his chest.

"Obliterate."

He gently uttered two words, pushing the energy ball towards the mother nest.

As the energy ball touched the mother nest, there was no earth-shattering explosion, rather it merged silently like a drop of water into a sponge.

The next moment, the huge body of the mother nest suddenly stiffened, and then countless black rays of light surged from within.

Its pulsation ceased, its surface vessels and orifices rapidly withered, turned gray, a complete disintegration and perishing starting from the material structure level.

Along with the unstable wormhole above, after emitting intense fluctuations, vanished abruptly like a snuffed fire.
